But oh so appropriate, ain't it? By the 80s Chairman Lee was in cruise control motivated mostly on marketing his past achievements. K-cars and minivans only carried Mopar so far.

My first new car was an '86 Cougar XR7. Loved that car. Very comfortable and fun to drive. Had a wimpy rear end though, not up to what the turbo 4 could put out. 😞 At that time, I never thought I'd like a 4 cylinder engine ... especially after I test drove the V6 Cougar, which was a real dog. But after test driving the XR7 I was hooked on that car.

The Capri was better than the mustang. It does not belong on this list.

I almost got myself a 1990 Sunbird GT Turbo coupe as my first ever car...then the guy fired the car up, and it puffed smoke like crazy. But I still to this day love the look

I actually own a 1985 5.7L Fox-Body Mercury Capri. The only difference between my Capri and a fox body Mustang is the name of the car.
These cars were fun. I had a Daytona, my brother had a sunbird, my friend had the Buick. Nice list, brought back nice memories of driving these things for me.
That Ford Escort GT Turbo and EXP Turbo are now somewhat collectable. Not because they were high performance machines but because they are so rare.
@tedschmitt178

And they are rare because turbo tech in the early 80s was so primitive. That’s why so many people shun turbos to this day.

I had an escort GT it was a fun car to drive, it wasn't fast but it handled good, would hug corners almost as good as my 73 Firebird. It was roomy, hatchback, good sound system, and with the spoilers and ground effects it wasn't a bad looking car. Mine wasn't turbo tho, but the 2.9 inline 4 didn't do too bad. Same engine that was in the ranger, and LX mustang.

My Friends Mother ( 93) still own her Beretta since 36 years.....the Car is a little bit run down, but gets new German TUV and apply for Historic license plate.............I try once to drive, and impressed me, runs smooth as silk.........

I loved my '86 laser! Wish I still had it. It was such a great car. Handled beautifully in the snow and the mpg's couldn't be beat! It was a great bargain sports car!
At Ferndale High School in 1991 a classmate had the EXP fitted with 4 12" Orion XTR subs. Bangin'! RIP R. Natin.
Zimmer Quicksilver is gorgeous.

These cars were so rare that you can't even find them in a rarities salvage yard. They were so bad, they were buried and hidden for the world would forget they were ever built.

I seen them around town back in the day. I think body styles of that day were too ugly to be valued as a classic, and performance was lacking.

There's a nice Buick Reatta still cruising my neighborhood. And one covered in moss at another house 🙄
There's a reason these cars were forgotten.
"0 to 60 in a neck breaking 9 seconds" 😂😂
i loved the look of the Mirada...
3:34 The Buick Reatta was a beautiful car.
A friend of mine had the Shelby turbo Charger 5 speed. Awsome car. Man it could smoke the tires. It had crazy sun visors mounted at the rear of the headliner. We called them Beer Visors. Gold and black.
Awesome video. I had 2 of the cars on here and miss them
I miss both my EXP's, too!
Great video that is evidence of just how boring the 1980's were when it came to cars.
The car in the thumbnail looks alot like the 6000 SUX from ROBOCOP
OH THE 3000 SUX LOOKS GREAT!
Reatta will always be my favorite Gm car of the 85-95 era. Test drove one but the smell of coolant scared me off, I’d had a 3.8 car before, but something was seriously wrong to blow a head gasket. Still, that drive was the most memorable of my life. It’s like Star Trek tng in car form

About a month ago I saw 2 fairly complete Reattas in a upullit yard in Aurora Colorado. I thought they were still cool looking but I couldn't imagine the electrical nightmare.
The first three years of the 1980s were the Jimmy Carter hangover. 😊❤
Thanks!
Thanks for the great video. Always liked the Reatta- see them here in Michigan, but never knew that so few were produced!
I had a 70 Pontiac Tempest. My buddy's dad had a 74 Trans Am with a 455 and a 4 speed. He also had an LTD wagon with a 351 Cleveland with a Holley double pumper and headers with cutout pipes. Sleeper/grocery getter.
I had a friend who had a Shelby version of the Chrysler Laser. 0:57 Think it was a Daytona

Had an EXP, was like a go cart! Fun little commuter car
A friend owned a Mirada. Absolutely gorgeous in real life. Always wanted one. I still remember though- the trunk space was like a shoe box😁
Forgotten with good reason.
The Sunbird 1st Gen was what my family had when I was a baby and until dad played chicken head-on with someone and we crashed. I didn't have a seatbelt on. I flew into the back of my dad's seat. Bam!
The Zimmer Quicksilver on 24's would be really nice.

They all look cool to me.
I wanted a Conquest so bad back then.
My dad helped build parts for the Reatta. He was also working final assembly the night the millionth Cutlass came off the line too. I think that might have been when he was working with Magic Johnson's dad.
The market was won by Camaro and Mustang. This was Chrysler's 15 years of denial about the popularity of ponycars.
Ummmm, I’d hardly call the Mirada a sports coupe, use in nascar aside. It was a personal luxury car.
@ricknibert6417
25 күн бұрын
A "luxury" coupe was not supposed to have a console shifter like the Mirada.
I like the Zimmer Quicksilver. ✌🏽❤️💛🖤🎶🇦🇺
The only one I've heard of was the Buick Reatta, which I happened to own for about 15 years. It was a terrific car too.
These cars are forgotten for a reason. The Mustang II did have a 302 V8 option starting in 75.
4:41 Wish I had a Sunbird GT instead of the base model Sunbird long ago. The base version was terrible
Valeu pela História automotiva. Gostei muito.
In the mid 1980s I worked next door to the Zimmer assembly plant in Pompano Beach Florida. I wish that I'd had thought to take a photo of the finished products lined along their fence. (There would often be four of five of lined up in a row.)
I’m buying a Mirada
i seen an ad for someone who was selling a zimmer, never heard of it before that and spent some time reading up on them on the internets
As an old school Detroit native, Every single one of these cars should NEVER be mentioned EVER again!!
my bestie in high school had a later, Plymouth marked Laser. It was adorable, but not well taken car and never ran well or fast. It was beautiful in electric blue and had a TINY backseat. Also had the largest air filter I've ever seen in a production car,.
We need someone like that here in america
Awe$ome
The Buick Century was the best car of this list.
Had an '84 Chrysler Laser, '88 Dodge Daytona Shelby Z and a '92 Plymouth Laser.
The only car in this lineup I found interesting was the Zimmer quicksilver. It's definitely unique but it's kinda cool looking, trick it out a bit and you might have something worthy.
If you got rid of that chrome mess on the nose of the Quicksilver you'd have a pretty fantastic looking car.
As stated in ads from 1978: “There are four turbocharged cars sold in the US; two of them are Buicks”.
I had a mirada cmx with a 318 when i was 17 was fun car
I had a Lazer turbo❤
I remember all these cars, is there something wrong with me?
1988 Turbo T-bird Coupe? 4 cylinders of turbocharged fury, with a nice 5-speed gearbox
The Zimmer isn’t forgotten. Few knew it existed.
Best forgotten.
Squeezed and pulled and hurt my neck in 1988...
Knew someone with a twin turbo V6 Sunfire
1990-93 Grand Prix Turbo 3.1v6. T-Bird Turbo Coupes & Fox body Mustang,s early to mid 1980,s, all have the 2.3L with Turbo.
You know about Cord and said laser was first American front wheel drive sports car.
Nice video, but first, second and third should be Zimmer Quicksilver, Buick Reatta (not Riata☺) and Chrysler Laser - just for their looks alone!..
Loved my exp
Asuna sunfire, Ford Merkur XR4Ti
❤️💯💯🏆
I owned 1984 Pontiac Sunbird convertible
Laser would be cool if not for the front wheel drive.
Best forgotten
Reeata not Rayata. Lol.
The Chrysler Conquest TSI was a better car because it was a rear wheel drive.
You forgot the 85/86 Shelby Duster.

My cousin's have one. Original owner and only a new paint job. And only on the road 6 months out the year
Narrated by Randall from Clerks
The Laser was a POS with horrible torque steer. Especially with the turbo and associated turbo lag!
I sat in the back seat of a laser once. I literally had to bend forward and lock my arms under my knees. No room at all back there. I saw a Zimmer Quicksilver at a car show once and immediately wanted one.
Got my drivers license and had my first car accident in a Sunbird GT. Got hit by an effin drunk driver.
My 1988.5 exp was gutless.
The first few were actual cars not just special trim levels/packages like the Mustang/McLaren. The Quicksilver was a kit car so it doesn't really belong in here. And the Reatta was never a sports car; it was marketed as a personal luxury coupe in the same vein as the original T-Bird. Yes, yhe 3.8 could do wonders (Grand National anyone?) buy not the detuned version in the Reatta
There is a reason why they are forgotten.
I have been trying to remember Lee iacocas brother now I no his name this ai had it all the time
The beginning of the video was so dramatic
A lot of these cars are coupes. Calling them sport coupes is a stretch
They all stink if we're honest, but I do miss the 80s!
Had a Mirada. Was bigger than midsize. Mine had a 225 6 cyl. Slow as shit!!!! Had a Cordoba also at least a 318!!
“Jag wire” . 😂
Some of those are better off forgotten.
1:00 Did you say the Plymouth Laser was later replaced by the Plymouth Laser?
The mid 80's Chrysler/Maserati TC should have been in this Video.
@JacobPaul-ix7oc
7 күн бұрын
It wasn't a mid 80's car, though. It was sold from 1989-1991. What's funny is that it barely looks different than the first car I bought in 1993, a 1987 Chrysler Lebaron Turbo Coupe. Absolutely terrible car and the only MOPAR vehicle I have ever owned as a result.
The Chrysler Laser was HARDLY a sports car.
oh my god! i had the number one car. well, my older sister did then she gave it my mom... i remember my mom was going to gift it to me but i kinda did not want it, it was around the time i turned 18 in 1998 just got my DL.. i wonder what happened to that car?
I went to jail riding around in yuppyville saint clair shores michigan when I left detroit's protection of lawlessness nature to drive with no license. LOL. The police man said I was swerving lane to lane which is not even close to believable since I was on pot and paranoid driving my first stick shift. The Laser. It was a lot of fun obviously to drive that it got me pulled over. It was my friend's mother's car. He was originally the driver but ditched me for a date with some nookie in the movie theater. So i went driving with friend phat roc bumpin' the newest release from Esham. Helter Skkelter. Sorry Phat Roc. he got held up cuz he too had no license and had to walk from there back to wherever he was going to go when I disappear. LOLOL. Pseer!! Pszoom! Pszoom! Laser!
Lou Rawls owned a few Zimmers - junk, but interesting.
Ah the avanti
The Ford M81 was named after the infamous explosive device M80…it was one better.
