I think practise is the main one, have a camera with you at all times, ready to take photos and be out as much as you can, the more you do it the more you'll be at the right place at the right time.

It helps to have a tiny camera like your GR3. Even with my Leica Q2, I do sometimes decide to leave it at home, which I know is criminal. And I also need to get outside more. Thanks for the reminder.

I have another one to add: In the words of Bruce Lee. "It's like a finger pointing away to the moon. Don't concentrate on the finger or you will miss all that heavenly glory" and in the words of Kenny Rogers "You never count your money, When you're sittin' at the table, There'll be time enough for countin', When the dealin's done" or in simple terms, NO CHIMPING!! If you're looking at the back of your camera then you're not concentrating on what's happening in front of you (and equally importantly if you look at the image every time you take a photo you're signalling to everyone that you just took a photo), keep taking photos until the opportunity is gone and then take a look if you need to.

Fantastic, yes, 100%. But do you practice what you preach? I think that is covered by tip number 1, but it's good to specifically call out the chimpers. To be honest, it's very hard to chimp on the Rolleiflex unless you have some kind of mobile developing lab, but even then it gets very messy.

@@StreetPhotographyChina absolutely, the only exception I'll make is if I think I've pressed a button on the back to make sure I've not switched the GRiii to macro or something.. The other week I shot maybe 15 photos on manual focus at 0.6m before checking the pics and finding that I'd somehow touched the rear screen and made the camera refocus to infinity, but issues like this are rare. In general though I'll keep shooting until I've walked away from the scene and then maybe check the last image to make sure it looks reasonable.

@@takeytakeyphoties Well done, that's impressive. On the Q2 people have been known to accidentally switched from photos to video without realizing (apparently swiping the LCD screen left to right does this). I've also accidentally nudged the lens which switches to macro mode, but when it is in between both macro and normal mode, the camera won't take any photos. Missed a shot last week because of this, when I thought I had taken it. Live and learn.
