My honest opinion on guys who cheat in general. After one time, they should never be forgiven. Because if they do it once, they’re bound to do it again. Also, if they do cheat, that proves that they can’t be faithful to the first person, which backs up the “do it again” point!

He didn’t do anything to prove he became a better person before Teddy took him back and also they didn’t have a lot of chemistry on the screen. He didn’t treat her as good as Bou because he was so nice to her and you would think spencer would do more things because he messed up. Even when Teddy and Spencer did get back together I don’t think he really showed that he changed. Bou is better for her also

I can see what you mean, I never loved Spencer and Teddy's relationship, but I do believe in redemption. So like, I wouldn't label as a terrible 0erson, just soneone who did something really careless and stup if. My father cheated on my mum three years ago, and she found it in her heart to forgive him, but it took almoist two years, and he worked hard to try and deserve her forgiveness l. So I think there is an exception that Spencer could be a good person, but I still don't really ship him with teddy:/

I thought it was weird but it would've ended better if Maya had figured it out herself instead of Josh telling her like he knew anything. Also like could it have been "you like Lucas because Riley's had too much of an effect on you" instead of "you let Riley have too much of an effect on you to see what Lucas was like"?? Yes. And Maya and Lucas had a lot of chemistry and really worked as a couple because they kinda balance each other. Riley and Lucas were just too goody goody. I was so mad at that episode where they imagined what their life would be like if they ended up with Lucas and the writers had the audacity to say Lucas and Maya would just fight all the time. They don't really fight, it's just teasing each other, kinda like Ron and Hermione or even Fred and Hermione from Harry Potter.

During season two of GMW, I personally lost all respect for Lucas. He couldn’t decide what he wanted, and in the process hurt Maya and Riley. I wanted Riley to end up with Farkle, they had so much more chemistry, and Maya with Josh. I saw the chemistry between Maya and Josh from the holiday episode in season one, and I like how they ended their relationship.

Liz D in ikr. season 1 I just thought of him as “the boyfriend” and he barely had his own character. Then in season 2 he became “the boy in a love triangle” where he just picked between Riley and maya and it bugged me especially the writers putting him and Riley together making it seem perfect. I actually liked them together because they fit each other quite well but at the same time i wasn't the biggest fan. I think that Cody would fit better someone who is similar to Zack (more like a chill girl) so they would compliment each other better. That's just my opinion tho. Didn't really see Cody liking farm life and things like that.

debtu While watching the show, I was a little mad that they made the whole love triangle thing. Why did the writers make Maya like Lucas when she already likes Josh (it seemed she really liked him in the Tell Tale Tot episode)? However, after the Ski episode, I didn't really like how they ended the triangle. I also didn't like how Josh acted "philosophically". Then I started rewatching a few episodes and I began to realize how unnatural Riley and Lucas' relationship was. I no longer ship anyone with anybody (although I could be swayed towards becoming a fan of the Lucas and Maya ship. And I think Auggie and Ava's relationship is cute. They remind me of young Cory and Topanga).

i agree. the story totally got messed up. at the end lucas didnt deserve either of them (he enjoyed that two girls were crushing on him a bit too much). but i think he also only liked maya for her looks. rememeber zay said lucas called maya 'the blonde beauty' and riley 'the pretty brunette who would do anything for her friends' or something like that? i think if i have to choose, josh was better for maya, bc he actually liked maya for the person she is, like he explained to her in the window scene. and riley should have been alone she was so unnatural ugh.

For me, I shipped Lucas with nobody. I liked Maya x Josh because Josh wanted to be an honourable guy, but they still liked each other. Josh was the guy who respected her and made her feel good about herself. The relationship was built on trust. And Josh could’ve seen what was going on. The friends weren’t that subtle with anything. But I agree that the script writing was a little strange, but not enough that I don’t like the character.

Josh and Maya had the best storyline and chemistry of any teen couple on Girl Meets World. And in fact, (even with the young adult/teenager age difference controversial relationship) I think that they are one of the healthiest relationships on the Disney Channel. More so, concerning the age controversy, Josh would not cross the line until Maya was of age. So again, this shows the healthiness our their relationship and that Josh is one of the most "standup" male teen love interest on any Disney Channel shows.

Xx_GachaTay _xX I just was never comfortable with the big age gap. Even when they tried to justify it the time line doesn’t make much sense. He’d have to be really young for his grade and she’d have to be older for her age. Like he’s a sophomore in college and she’s a freshman in high school. It’s weird and he’s not in the show 90% of the time. I feel like I can’t ship people with others if they aren’t there.

I really liked Jake and Miley's relationship which is why I was mad that the writers wrote his character as a cheater. So of course now I don't like them as a couple but before Jake cheated they were so cute together.

Can I just confess that I really liked when Hannah Montana did not have any romance plotlines and it was just all the other fun stories of shopping craze, the credit card thing, Jonas Brothers story. I really liked all those episodes. When the romance plotlines started to come, I kind of lost interest and gradually after Milye moved houses, I stopped watching all together cause that was kind of like the last straw for me.

Julia Ne'Cole I mean... something *very* similar happened to me when I was around the age Reilly and Maya are supposed to be. And it happened again in college. I wasn’t sure who I was, and I was impressionable. When you’re that young, it’s really, really easy to take on the personality and traits of people close to you, those you want to love you, those you need approval from. I didn’t find it unrealistic.

Julia Ne'Cole exactly. If you perceive Lucas as being the catalyst for why Maya tried to adopt Reilly’s personality, then I would agree. It seems like a silly plot contrivance to drive Maya away from Lucas when the writers decided the triangle needed to end. And boy, did it need to end! But I always saw deeper seeded issues with Maya. I was secretly hoping Freeform would pick up the show so they would have more freedom to explore those issues than a typical Disney sitcom allows for.

@@morganfreeman9106 oh how I wished it would have been on Freeform. The show never had that Boy Meets World spark to it given the Disney Channel standard. Boy Meets World was amazing because it could address hard issues and say something but they never had that. And the love triangle got ruined because of it and the development of Maya got ruined because of it. Maya was the Shawn Hunter, she needed a story where she could get drunk because for that episode she was depressed and couldn't handle it. Heck even join a cult like Shawn did, I wish they would have been on Freeform.

Lucas is just so boring. He literally has no personality. Riley is quirky and cute and Lucas is just really boring. His only personality trait is that he's hot. (Not rlly in my opinion)

I totally agree, but I felt that as the later seasons progressed Riley became TOO quirky/was trying too hard to be quirky and became annoying and boring just like Lucas; making their whole relationship boring and difficult to watch.

@@stephaniewood1210 The good guy bit was not for Riley's sake. If it was because of her he would have reverted to his old ways when she wasn't around, for example when hanging with Zay. Zay tried several times to drag him back to "the dark side" and he refused.

Dump truck said what we all were thinking, and that's why I love him as a character

I feel like Riley and Lucas could've been a great couple if they had been developed more. Riley liked Lucas from the moment she saw him and we can assume Lucas started liking her around that time too. However, we never really get many compelling reasons why they're a good couple. Riley is head over heels in love with Lucas, but she never seems to have a reason why beyond he's cute and he helped birth a horse. And for Lucas, we can just assume that he likes the way Riley... is. Except in season 3 (I don't remember which episode) he says Riley drives him crazy sometimes. Granted he was angry when he said that, but I don't think that particular point was ever resolved. (though I could be wrong) Now, don't get me wrong. That's not unrealistic. They were young when they met. I think we all know that kids in middle school sometimes have major crushes for weak reasons. However, they were the main ship of the show. I ship them because they make each other happy, (and I really ship Josh and Maya...) but I wish there had been more development. If I wrote the show, I would've made an early episode when Maya asks Riley why she likes Lucas so much anyway. And when Riley tells Maya why Maya points out that there are plenty of guys like Lucas in there grade alone. Riley would realize that maybe she doesn't like Lucas as much as she thinks she does. And maybe around the same time, another girl catches Lucas's attention, but he doesn't want to hurt Riley. During the episode, the two spend a lot more time together (maybe going around New York or talking about life) and they figure out that yes, they do like each other. That way, we have a stronger base for the relationship. Not just "they've liked each other for (x) amount of years, so of course they belong with each other." IDK tho.

I totally agree with you. While I do ship Riarkle, I don’t mind Rucas. The problem is that they were very underdeveloped, which I think why people find it so cliche of a relationship. Like throughout the show, they kept mentioning how Riley and Lucas always stick up and believe in their friends and look for the best in people. And I always kind of assumed that was one reason that they liked each other because they are so caring and also Riley is quirky I guess. But like that’s not a good reason. All of the friends in the group are caring and, for the most part, supportive of one another like Maya, Farkle, Zay, and Smackle. Like Zay is funny, caring, and very sweet, but that doesn’t mean I would ship him with Riley (well maybe if they had more scenes together). With Farkle, however, it always seemed that Riley and Farkle had very deep and meaningful conversations with one another. Like in Girl Meets Permanent Record or A Christmas Maya. Also, I love Riley, but I always felt that she was too over-the-top and bubbly to the point where she would push her beliefs onto others and completely ignore reality. When she was with Farkle, however, she still seemed optimistic but like in a good way. He brought out the best in her and whenever they were talking, she sounded normal and down to earth. In Ski Lodge, the whole gang agreed that the key to any good relationship is conversation. That’s why I also can ship Rilaya. Also, I didn’t like when Riley sometimes completely disliked Lucas’s bad Texas side. Like I get that she didn’t want him turning back into that side of him, but at times it seemed that she was almost like ashamed of him because of it. I guess I don’t know how to explain it, but I think it’s important to acknowledge both sides of one’s personality to evaluate how much you have grown as person. Like what Maya did. I think it’s important that if you’re in a relationship, the person can recognize your flaws and either appreciate or try and make you better. But I don’t know, it just always seemed that Riley was almost oblivious to it. Idk.

Yes, completely agree about Josh! He is the best!😍 Also, I’ve seen all seasons of Good Luck Charlie, and I still prefer Beau. Teddy and Spencer basically got together the second time because he’s a good kisser. They broke up the second time because the long distance relationship took a toll. Then, when Spencer came back for her, she was with Beau, and Spencer couldn’t handle it. He even refused to be friends with her because it was “too painful.” Beau goes back to Tennessee because they need him out of the picture somehow! Spencer reminds Teddy of his amazing kissing skills, and now they’re together again. The end. I don’t like them because cheating is just not something I support, and they never had any chemistry, in my opinion.🤷‍♀️

While it's certainly not for everyone, cheating does not necessarily have to be the end of a relationship. It will take a lot of time and effort but if dealt with properly it CAN work. It probably wouldn't be realistic for the majority of people but that is not to say that it cannot be done. I feel like, if anything, Teddy and Spencer would've been a great opportunity for a Disney show to explore that kind of dynamic. The mindset of "Once a cheater always a cheater" is simply not accurate, and if you examine the reasons as to why the person cheated (note that when I say "reason" I do NOT mean "excuse") you can work past it as long as you put the effort in. Especially considering the fact that the characters were 15 in the first season (if I recall correctly). 15 year olds are not really known for being capable of navigating relationships in the most healthy fashion, and you definitely shouldn't expect someone who cheated at that age to be the same years later.

Its so weird how when the name comes up on the screen I get slightly shocked and agitated but then you explain why and I actually agree with you lmao, disney gave us some really good ships but they also provided us with some pretty terrible ones too. Like I love camp rock so much as it was one of my favourites but the way Shane got so angry with Mitchie in the first movie was so off putting to me

i'm sorry but i gotta get this off my chest: spencer (from good luck charlie) is a garbage person. i don't care that he eventually got teddy's forgiveness or "got better in later seasons". she never should've taken him back. its not like it was just one kiss or that he was kinda/sorta/maybe flirting with another girl. he literally made the *conscious* decision to be romantically involved with 2 girls at the same time. he flirted with both of them, used the same lines and compliments on both of them, took them both out on dates, and blatantly *LIED* to their faces. HE PLANNED ALL THAT CRAP! that's disgusting. and the audience and teddy are just supposed to believe it was a one time thing and that he's not that bad of a guy really?? if you ask me, disney bringing spencer back to date teddy really underplayed how badly he broke teddy's heart. that she could actually bring herself to ever trust him again completely baffled me. and, if i'm being honest, kinda sent the wrong message to girls in similar situations. teddy deserved so much better. also, jake (hannah montana) was also a garbage person.

Sometimes u do still care about the person even after they cheat on u. The Disney Channel ship that never should have happened is Trish and Chuck on Austin and Ally. I love Austin and Ally but it pisses me off that they put Trish with Chuck. Because in my opinion, Chuck's behavior with Trish brings to mind images of catcalling, sexual harassment or dare I say it, rape culture. Whenever Chuck talks to Trish, he winks at her and clicks his tongue, which heavily implicates he wants physical contact with her, he makes comments of a very sexual subtext at her, he has a delusional idea that she likes him when she clearly doesn't, and he seems to treat her like she is a piece of property and not a human. In my opinion, it's a really negative message, not only for children but for women as well. We should be teaching children not to respect the kind of attention that Chuck gives Trish. I liked Jace so much better for Trish- he wasn't around much but he seemed to truly care for her, he treated her like an actual person and he was so sweet and affectionate. Nonetheless, Austin and Ally is still one of my favorite shows- Disney Channel or otherwise.

I personally don’t ship Dez and Trish either, but at least Dez didn’t stalk Trish and catcall her and at least they had chemistry. I actually think Chuck was worse than Trent, Trish’s ex-boyfriend who twisted her around his finger and pretended to be her boyfriend just to get the position as Austin’s backup dancer. Don’t get me wrong though- Trent was a real asshole and what he did to Trish made me want to slap the living shit out of him. Roger, who Austin replaced Trent with, barely lasted an episode, Jace was a long distance boyfriend and only lasted like 3-4 episodes and Chuck- he’s a creepy stalker and his ways of flirting with Trish are more like catcalls than compliments.

Auslly is definitely the best of the best in terms of ships from A&A, but that doesn't mean that Dez or Trish don't deserve true love, and Trish and Jace were a really underrated couple. I liked Carrie for Dez, but what I would have loved would be if they had put Dez with Chuck. Dez and Chuck had so much chemistry and they would have made an awesome gay couple.

Yes to Zoey and Jackson, I hated them, and that movie, it's so bad. Don't really have feelings on Kelsi and Ryan. Still need to watch K.C. Undercover

I can see why you wouldn't like Bailey. She's a nice girl, but she was too nice to be paired with London as her roommate. I mean, Maddie always was enough of a badass to complement London's dumbass. Bailey was too much of a bottom. I do think her and Cody were ok as a couple, but they were low-key brutal towards each other during the break-up.

Lucas and Riley never seemed natural to me. I think they made GREAT friends, but Lucas and Maya just had more chemistry and more build up. Also, Riley and Farkle would have been ICONIC! I was not a fan of Smackle and Farkle. They were too similar, which I think is the same issue that Riley and Lucas had. I think for ships to really work they need to have differences to balance each other out.

Jordan Pearson in my opinion they were just WAY too forced. Plus it was almost like in season two, the writers saw that Lucas and Maya were being shipped so they put them in the show for views and then made Riley and Lucas canon at the last minute

Jordan Pearson in my opinion, I think Riley and Maya are the best suited for each other, I mean first, it would be the first people in Disney to be with the same sex, which is a big step in the right direction that will teach children that it is naturally to be interested in the same sex too. Second, they have the best chemistry, you can see that whenever they look at each other. Third, the whole show is about the growth of their relationship, that's what the writers wanted the spin off to be, not a classic boy meets girl and falls in love type of thing.

I never liked Cody and Bailey but then again I'm not the biggest fan of Debbie Ryan's acting.

I don't get why everyone has to be paired up. IMO Lucas and Maya fought too much, and I'm here for Smarkle. I'm not a huge fan of Rucas but I don't really care about it.

Rucas ~ is okay-ish, slightly cute but nothing special Joshaya ~ has potential and should have had its own spin off show of their relationship developing when Maya is older (like 18 or something) Smarkle ~ cute but at the same time I feel like opposites attract and they're extremely similar Zay and smackle ~ I agree this ship should have sailed, very cute and different personalities (as I said opportunities attract)

b o r k c e p t i o n I would not have liked that ship either. You know I would personally like to see Fletcher with Kennedy(that politician he dated to get Chyna jealous). If they developed her character they would have been good together. She's nice to him, and she could teach him how to speak up, while he could teach her how to appeal to viewers since he's artistic.

Maya and Lucas had more chemistry I will agree with that and at first I didn’t ship them but as the show went on I started kinda shipping a bit. Riley and Lucas could be cute together but they don’t have a lot of chemistry and I feel like they would be better staying as friends. I think I shipped them at the beginning but then I didn’t because they seemed like they were both just good friends

Essentially every Disney channel relationship is problematic tbh. They rarely want to actually add a new character so a lot of the time the relationship is sporadic drama filled episodes sprinkled throughout an 'arc' before they break up (Alex/Mason on Wizards of Waverly Place) and they mostly are just kids/teens acting out gross generic tropes or a shallow story without any nuance or honesty. For example, I don't believe Teddy should have taken Spencer back because I think that cheating is disgusting and that it's a big enough betrayal that the act itself is enough to not take a person back. They have shown they're not trustworthy in the worst way possible. That being said I am aware that people in real life obviously can and do work things out when cheating is involved. However, those situations take a lot of hard work and time to rebuild that trust. But, Disney Channel will never put that kind of time into fixing a relationship. And as such I think it's gross to essentially say it's okay to get back with a cheater when they won't put in the effort to portray it at least somewhat realistically. It's not as simple as "I don't know if I'll be able to trust you" "Let me try" "Well, okay" and then things just turn out fine. Now, I'm not saying it's their job to promote that or they *have* to do it, but when your main demographic is kids I think it's at least your job to be aware of how your storylines can affect their perception of certain things. Like look at Bailey and Cody. In this case, Bailey was main so we at least got to see both of them actively dating. But, they fell into the category of going through the usual toxic motions of relationships on sitcoms; Take forever to get together, Cody was the nerdy pursuer so we had annoying, desperate gestures to capture her attention while she remains painfully oblivious, once they get together all their storylines are now dedicated to showing why they shouldn't be since all they do is have stupid disagreements, 'soft' breakups where they technically breakup in the context of the episode because of some inconsequential argument, and then real breakup(s) that are then followed by a period of time pining/mourning before becoming 'friends' and ultimately getting back together to repeat the cycle. Like, when watching it, it's not that big a deal and it's up to the viewers as well as adults/other influences in their lives to help them make their own decisions in regards to relationships anyways, but they're still not exactly healthy examples to put out there in the first place. Especially when you have other things like cheating (the aforementioned Spencer/Teddy) or sketchy age differences/levels of maturity (Josh/Maya) or just basic inconsideration for you as an individual (Sonny/Chad on Sonny with a Chance) that they will randomly throw in and romanticize. TLDR; All Disney Channel relationships suck when you get into the details, but they are largely harmless and despite agreeing with all the choices in this video, that obviously, did and does not stop me from having strong opinions about these ships either way.

I think I can explain the pull of Cody/bailey and spencer/teddy. Cody and bailey were the nerdy kids who got made fun of but when they were together they didn't care any of that, just having fun and being that annoying lovey dovey couple (seen in many episodes lol), plus tho bailey can b dramatic and irrational, in a few episodes it's evident she knows when she has to help or support him and she does. For spencer and teddy, the cheating thing does bother me, but I think they work because of how balanced the relationship always was. She chased him season 1, he pursued her all of season 2, and after they were forced to break up on season 3, they both looked for each other in season 4. Plus tho I'm not a huge fan of them, they above many other Disney ships resemble an actual relationship, it's not all rainbows and smiles, they tease one another, they flirt, they play to each other's strengths and weaknesses, and when they have an argument they sit down and try to get through it(so many Disney ships walk away without the problem being dealt with and it's so sad). Anyway, idk lol I like this video and agree with u, but a part of me likes Cailey and Spendy lol and that's why

Josh is actually the definition of adorable. Like hes just a small bean that needs to be protected at all costs
