I would be beyond pissed at NCL. I pick from a particular cruise, from the hundreds of options, because of the itinerary and port stops. $50 is far from an adequate response. And on-board credit is basically nothing in my pocket.

The new airline rules need to be expanded to cruising. There needs to be stiff penalties for failing to deliver what they advertise when it's in their scope of control or their fault. Even if it's not within the cruise line control, there needs to be some level of compensation unless the passenger is at fault. The cruise lines need a wake-up call and the notion of not giving the customer what they paid for needs to be ended.

Ah, let me tell you, every time I board one of those big, floating palaces, the first bee's knees thing I do-I explore the ship from stem to stern! It's been my custom since the first time I set foot on a cruiser, way back when. You see, these newfangled leviathans they got sailing the seas these days, they're a whole different kettle of fish compared to the steamships of my youth. But old habits die hard, and I've always been one to take the lay of the land-or in this case, the lay of the ship-before I get down to the nitty-gritty of eating and making merry. I step on board, see, and I'm off. I hoof it through the corridors, up and down the decks, peering into nooks and crannies, giving the once-over to every parlor and poop deck. It’s not just about getting my bearings, mind you; it's about soaking in the grandeur, the opulence that these ocean liners flaunt. Back in the day, we'd call it "living the life of Riley," and boy, does it still hold up. Along the way, I nod to the crew, the young whippersnappers bustling about. I exchange pleasantries, sometimes in the old slang-throws 'em for a loop, but I get a kick out of it. It’s a grand parade, from the top deck with the big band playing those old tunes I still tap my toes to, down to the engine rooms that hum like the bee’s knees. Only after I’ve toured the whole shebang, do I think about wetting my whistle or finding a cozy corner to sit and gab with other folks, maybe share a tale or two about the good old days. But that’s the rub-first things first, see? The ship's gotta be explored, like a treasure map that leads to hidden gems of spots where you can later sit back, sip a cold one, and watch the world float by. And let me tell you, each time I do it, it's just as swell as the first. Despite being on in years, that first step onto the deck takes me back, makes me feel like a bright young thing, ready to paint the town. And by the time I'm done, I'm ready to kick up my heels at the ship's shindig, fully acquainted with every nook and cranny that makes up her grand figure. That, my friend, is how you start a cruise right, by making the whole boat your own.

I’ve been cruising for more than 50 years, and the shorter stays in the ports is my most objectionable changes, especially since it’s due to “fuel optimization”. I would have thought that when they listed the offered ports they would have made such decisions then not after ports published and cruisers made their plans incl paying for such! Recently I went on an Oceania cruise (ie not cheap, especially me going solo) anyways, we had a sea day before we got to San Juan Puerto Rico … we were in San Juan until 2pm… then another sea day. Then. Their island 48 hrs later. Clearly the ship ship should have been in SJ for a full day!

  • @michelealkins616

I agree. Except I don’t think it’s shady. I think it’s a flat out bait-and-switch revenue grab , “because the contract says we can”. NCL is the only major cruise line that doesn’t do anything to make the onboard experience great. They have good food. You don’t have to dress up. And they have seemingly great itineraries, until it’s time to go to them. Then they cut ports and port times left and right. Last summer I took a Med cruise and they shortened 4 ports by a lot.

Not enough compensation for itinerary changes. Also should allow full refunds no matter if paid in full and close to sailing. Unless it's for weather, war, or danger, no changes should be made to the itinerary and if they know ahead of time full refunds should be allowed either in future cruise credit or cash.

Cruise ships need to revamp the way we drop off our bags. Normally, as your entering, people are there to take it, and that's fine, and we don't mind giving them a few dollars per bag, BUT, numerous times, we've had the guys that are waiting out there for your bags tell us that if we do not tip them well, we will not see our bags on the ship. They have told us numerous times they are responsible for making sure our bags go from the curb to the ship, and unless they are tipped well, our bags may not make it onto the ship. This has pissed us off. We have reported it numerous times, but have never heard anything back from the cruise lines; I've even taken a picture of the guys that have said this, and shown it to the people on the cruise ship. We do not care for this at all, and numerous times we've just hand carried our own indoors because we no longer trust some of these people.

Expect those things from NCL. Was on an NCL cruise years ago-highlight was supposed to be a stop in St. Petersburg for the 150th anniversary of the famous Russian city-NCL advertised this very special highlight/stop, but refused to spend a little extra to hire an ice breaker to ensure we got there safely and had a 90 year old lady pass out slips of paper advising we would not be going there as we were on the gangway embarking the vessel. The real revolt happened when passengers discovered that both Holland America and Princess hired ice breakers so their passengers could get to St Petersburg for the festivities!

It’s a tie between exploring the ship and also getting some food and drink. Any reservations we want we have already made Norwegian should offer a heck of a lot more than $50 OBC! Most people book based on the ports. If it’s bad weather that’s one thing but this is completely different! Shame on them!

My suitcase now is an expedition bag that has multiple outside pockets too. I’m not sure I can even put a tie strap on them so they are usually empty, and I don’t check. In general though I needed to reorganize so most things came out at packing time. Now I need to pack for different weather which adds to the things that are added or removed.

I have a separate suitcase for each kind of travel I do regularly. If I'm going on a cruise I need different basics than if I'll be vacationing on land and not leaving the country.

NCL did worse than that to us on a Star sailing this month. They originally changed a port, then a month and a half before sailing they cancelled that replaced port, cancelled one other, changed another, AND changed our embarkation port! And we were told to be thankful for our $50 OBC for first two passengers.

I would be interested to know the breakdown of incidents involving just crew, just passengers, and incidents involving both. Is that breakdown part of the report? Thanks for your news videos. Always very informative and relevant.

We were supposed to sail to Labadee on the August 25th sailing with Freedom of the Seas and we’re going to Nassau instead. We were really hoping for Turks, but I’m just glad it’s not a sea day🏝️

Boarding Celebration in 3/2023 trying to get 4 people out the truck, organize all luggage and carry on's, including 1 scooter, 89 yo mom, and my husband who wrecked his back 2 weeks before the trip needing a walker! The porter ASKED for his tip. We always tip, and tip heavy, but I was extremely annoyed, like dude, you see I'm not walking away, and I am trying to get this right. You have to move fast at the drop off. So don't count on NOT tipping! Or love what you wear onto the ship. They have their hands out!

I would like you to break down the percentage ratio to fleet size. 17 out of 1000 compared to 17 out of 500 is a huge difference in customer’s possibility of experiencing a similar issue per cruise line. This will give a better view of safety and possible allegations per line.

Celebrity is our cruise line of choice. Glad to see it wasn’t on any incident list. I feel safer on a cruise ship than on a land vacation. If someone commits a crime on board, there is no easy or quick way to exit, like on land.
