Regarding Lost ruins of Arnak, I never tried new research tracks without leaders, but I believe developers said that new research tracks would be too difficult to advance without leaders.

Ah, okay, good to know. Thanks!! I need to just buckle down and learn the leaders. Hopefully my next play!

I must get Champions of Midgard. I've been hearing about that game for years now, but I keep getting other games instead, like Lost Ruins of Arnak 🤪. Great list. You have a great voice for board gaming. Keep at it.

Thank you so much for the kind words and encouragement! That means a lot! ☺ Champions of Midgard is a ton of fun. I forget how old this game is, because it really holds up--even for someone like me, who only discovered it last year!

Champions is awesome. Love the Valhalla expansion.

Epic is the right word for it! That's a great weekend in my opinion. I think having the power go out is a great example of catching a silver lining. Maybe I need the power to go out more often at my house to get my family motivated to play some games, lol. I'm still trying to wrap my head around the Genius Square mathematics.. like, seriously? All the shapes fit, no matter where the blockers go? Super cool little puzzle. I will need to check out Century Golem.. looks like something I would really like. Great content as usual, thanks!

Yeah! I love it when these particular friends are in town--they're ready to just drink and play all night! Totally--the fact that the Genius Square can be so random but always work is mind-blowing! I highly recommend Century Golem if you're a fan of Splendor. 😎

How does Century Golem Edition compare to Century Spice Road, are they different enough to warrant having both?

I believe Century Golem Edition is basically a "modern reprint" of Century Spice Road, with a different theme and nicer components--but mechanically the same. I definitely don't think there's any reason to have both (since they are the same game), but it could possibly be worth replacing an old copy of Century Spice Road (with its boring wooden cubes) with Century Golem Edition instead (and its chunky gems and awesome storage trays), if someone was looking for more table presence. Personally, I like the Spice Road theme more, but I definitely like the components in Golem better. 🙂

Design notes in the Expedition Leaders rulebook says "if your leaders are researching their way toward the Bird Temple or the Snake Temple, you will find the game somewhat easier than normal. You'll have a better chance of moving high up the research track. And conversely, if you use the Monkey Temple or Lizard Temple without the new leaders, the top row will be harder to reach."

Awesome! Somehow I missed that. Glad to hear it can work without the leaders, although my goal is to hopefully try the leaders in my next play. 😎

Have always been on the fence for century. Still wonder how good it is…and whether I will like it if I really play it. Seems simple for what it is

Are you a fan of Splendor? I would say it's a similar weight, and if you like Splendor, then I can almost guarantee you'll like Century Golem Edition.

@@BoardGameCasualChannel Have played Splendor more than any other game in my collection due to its wide appeal and balanced pace and weight. This comment sold Century Golem Edition to me :)

@@HarborLoot I don't want to oversell it, but yeah--since you seem to like/play Splendor as much as I do, I guarantee you'll like Century Golem Editions! (The "tactility" of both games are also awesome!)

@@BoardGameCasualChannel haha no unfortunately I don't really enjoy splendor. I didn't like the theme of the game and to be fair there isn't much theme there...

@@user-mf1cu3tn7s That’s fair. I barely even think about the theme of Splendor because I like the mechanics so much. But if you don’t like the mechanics/weight of Splendor, it’s a toss up whether you’d like Century…
