I was assigned to work in Santa Cruz, Bolivia in 2012 after a 4 year assignment in Egypt. After a year I returned to the UK and retired early in 2014. A week later I returned to Bolivia and in 2017 became a permanent resident. I bought a 4 bedroomed bungalow with swimming pool, BBQ cabin to seat 20, separate laundry in 2508 sq metres (27,000 ft2) for a price similar to a 2 bedroomed apartment in the UK. The house is only 20 minutes from the centre of Santa Cruz and sits in a secure condominium with a 70,000 sq metre common area with a lake. I have since added a further 1007 sq metres to my land to grow fruit and vegetables giving me a total land area of 3515 sq metes (37,835 sq ft). Food and drink is very inexpensive here and travel between the major cities is by far better by air and relatively cheap to. The comments in the video regarding the standards of driving are very true. Political action is by road block and certainly there are factions that want to return to a dictatorship with a two class society (Them and Us). Overall though I love the climate and the diversity, visiting Sucre Cochabamba, La Paz and Tarija are like going to different countries. I love it!

@@Idonttakethisseriously Of course I have been to Oruro, for the Carnival too. It's a bit of a pain to get there (fly to Cochabamba, overnight stay, bus to and from Oruro but miles of walking to and from the bus station. A pretty good carnival though and we had some wonderful seats so I was able to get some excellent photographs. We are off to the La Paz carnival this weekend - rain forecast!

I'm very surprised you did not even mention Cochabamba. I lived there for almost four years. Very friendly people, almost perfect weather, and great food!

Cochabamba is where my husband is from, and its by far the most beautiful at least in pictures.. and his family are nice kind people..

Bolivia is the most inexpensive country to live. It has three major cities in three climates, like La Paz in the Andes, Cochabamba in the Valleys and Santa Cruz in the tropical region of the Country. Rich in culture, music, great tasting food and very cheap. Low crime, cheap rent and internet access. There are other smaller cities filled with beautiful culture and breathtaking landscapes like Potosi and the Uyuni Salt Flats, Sucre beautiful old architecture, Tatija with a flourishing wine industry, Oruro rich in culture with their world famous Carnaval and Beni and Pando which are in the amazon basin great for rain forest adventures.

Good job at researching and presenting the most relevant aspects. It is a good place to live calmly, even with the CONS, you learn to avoid them or tolerate them.

Slow bureaucracy is rampant in mexico just like in every other country in latin America . if some one tells you it will be ready Monday it usually mean Friday😅 of the following week 😂😂 but yeah try to learn enough of the language to get by on the other hand the culture and customs are a must learn.

Cochabamba , is the city with the best weather ,the culinary capital of Bolivia and the center of Bolivia, you can travel to any Bolivian city from Cochabamba.

You forgot to mention the most important information about the Uyuni Salar!! It is full of lithium!!! Had the most lithium of the world under the salt you see and it’s so beautiful!!! It is like walking in heaven and seems you didn’t appreciated or didn’t see it really well...you need to stay there to know Bolivia to give a more accurate description of that beautiful country!

Given Bolivia is not expensive it would be nice to give it a try and find affordable large places to live with your pets. Here it is possible to find places that suit your needs and relocate with your loving pets.

You didn't mention Cochabamba. Bolivia's 3rd city is known as the City of Eternal Spring and has the perfect climate and altitude for all round good weather. It's also known for it's food and is often called Bolivia's culinary capital. Cochabamba Airport also has the most Intercontinental Connections with direct flights to Europe and North America.

I live a lot cheaper in Cuenca Ecuador.. my rent is 300 including all utilities and High Pseed Internet.. my electric is 18 a month my cell is 5 bucks a month..Retirement visa easy to obtain.. I am definitely visiting Bolivia.. hope next year

How did i end up here? Its simple my people are said to of come from here. And originally i thought it sounded like someplace in check republic or something like that, Imagine my surprise when i looked it up and it was in native america. I value your effort making this video but, I think your knowledge of the country is still limited. From little info as Pique a lo Macho, that is not a typical dish from Santa Cruz but actually from Cochabamba, to prices for 2 bedrooms places you present with the wrong images that generalize the info as background, are missleading. Althought it is true that in Bolivia and especially with cities like Cochabamba (amazing you missed showing the most suitable and walkable city for retirees) you can have a high quality of life even higher than the one you get at least in the US (believe it or not), but maybe not at the level you can live in Europe.

Ah, the queues. Thought that was a historical relic of the Soviet Union. Guess not.

Three out of four times I've been in La Paz over the years I've been tear gasted. In 1970 a man ran for president on the promise to bring Bolivia into the modern world and he showed it by his heroic deed of having 5 mi of road paved. Prior to that there were no paved roads in the entire country. Santa Cruz was a backwater Dusty town until two things happen the discovery of oil and the growth of cocaine.

It seems it was very very far ago, the dusty town of Santa Cruz now is the largest in Bolivia, nicknamed by travelers as "Bolivian Miami ". There are modern highways now and modern infrastructure.

Bolivia was, always rich in resources, the expresidents for decades even centures, sales the resources it was like poor country. Bolivia was,is and will be better than before. Religious are real Cristian and Catholic and free religions.

Bolivia is incredibly beautiful. Night time is dangerous though. If one is retired why would they stay up very late

@@cooldude2245 depends on what part and what city, in santa cruz if you stay in your private neighborhoods i can say you are 10x safer than in the usa eruope or any country, in the north and west part of the city is very safe but when you go to the south and east where a lot of people live (mostly people that serve as manpower and earn the minimun salary) you can get robbed so just go to the north west and you are going to be fine

I’m from La Paz and I can tell you, living in el alto is brutal, not only for the extreme weather but also for the insecurity of the city itself. You can teach English and most of the people from the city of La Paz will welcome you, but not so much in El Alto.

I think that some of the information in terms of the cost of living it's way off the actual reality. Bolivia it's probably the cheapest place to live in Latinoamerica. Rent can go from $25.00 - $500.00 depending the size and location. You get more tv channels for free that typically you would have to pay in the USA. Internet is also cheap as low as $18.00 a month. Food is sooo inexpensive, organic and delicious that lunch can cost you from $2.00 - $15.00, depending where you go.

I lived for 15 years in Bolivia. I married and raised children there. LISTEN. It is a fascinating place, but tough. The Bolivians will welcome you, because as a foreigner you might have some opportunities they can use. Underneath, they dislike you. You shouldn't trust anyone if you want to survive. I could go on but the complexity of the culture and politics needs a book to explain. Do not retire there. It seems cheap, but in Bolivia life is very cheap, and a foreigners life only has as much value as they can be used for money and opportunities. I also met good simple people, especially campesinos. All my ex-pat friends that retired in Bolivia, even those that had been there for decades, are dead. In their time of need or illness, the Bolivians turned on them. Visit Bolivia, but don't stay too long. I hope telling the truth saves somebody's life.

A person who lives in Bolivia speaks to you. This country is Very Wonderful if we compare with the US or other countries. Unfortunately you are misinforming and I think you should learn something about this country, which is the simplicity of its inhabitants, which is the most characteristic. Most Bolivians love honesty, not betrayal, culturally a foreigner is welcome, but if he misbehaves they do justice with their own hands, logically Bolivians are not stupid to tolerate abuse either. Unfortunately there are bad experiences with foreigners who abused in the past, such as the Chileans who, allied to the gringos, took away the sea because the gringos provided the Chileans with better technology for the invasion. Other bad experiences to mention are that many foreigners entered Bolivia to steal and kill like Peruvians, even in many Peruvian internet places, Bolivian folklore and music is shown as if it were Peruvian. There are also seasons when Brazilian and lately Colombian mafias enter Bolivia, but Bolivians are not cruel, but they are not stupid to put up with everything. Lately Bolivians are more flexible, nationalistic and even globalized, there are foreigners who live here, but they love Bolivia and they don't misbehave. On the other hand, in other countries there is abuse and a lot of debauchery at all levels. Millionaire people in alliance with foreigners exploited resources of this country without leaving much. It seems that nowadays, Bolivia is a country of many hopes, that needs working people of good faith just like them, lately Argentine workers who live in Bolivia have arrived. Years ago I heard a saying "WE WANT PARTNERS AND NOT PATRONS". Currently and unfortunately as we live in the age of the internet, even bad habits are transmitted. Bolivia has amazing landscapes, but the country is a shit hole and is a horrible tourist destination. La Paz is a massive city and I have yet to find any place that would be considered pleasant or nice. Most towns are bombed out as well.

I agreed, it is a big shit hole and trash everywhere, uneven sidewalks, holes and big rocks jn middle of side walks, most of drivers doesn't respect traffic lights and one way st sign. Blockade every single day, excepted Friday and weekend( party day).

ok so i would say santa cruz is the best city to move in, 1 it depends on the zone you live, if you live in the north zone or western zone is safe, modern and there are good prices and private neighborhoods we call condominiums here (of houses) they are like resorts but to live in, 2: the economic growth, santa cruz is one of the fastest growing cities in the world and the first growing city in latin america and one of the bests to invest, thats a lot of people come here for jobs and everything, 3: you can live like in the usa or europe but cheaper, ok yes bolivia is a poor country but if you work and you have a good profetion or simply a good paying job (most likely if you come here to work or invest) you can get anything, here in santa cruz we have anything, enormous mansions in the urubo or in the north, good modern family houses, good american style family houses, good and modern apartments, good restaurants, good education and hospitals (if you work and have a decent or good job) ok but t he reason why many people here are poor is because they are just serving as manpower which gives you the minimun salary and then they go like in the south of the city like far away and live in this zones like plan 3000 which are very poor zones, there many people live and come to the city to work dialy as manpower like builders and more, for example in a good job in the west of the city i get paid about 40k bolivianos which are about 6000 USD, i have a profession and i get good salary, also if you like wanna buy a good computer and modern furniture for your house you can, there are many many options going from chinesee to american and european products which you wont fin in la paz or other cities (or its difficult/harder to find or simply you cant get it)

Bolivia is the most inexpensive country to live. It has three major cities in three climates, like La Paz in the Andes, Cochabamba in the Valleys and Santa Cruz in the tropical region of the Country. Rich in culture, music, great tasting food and very cheap. Low crime, cheap rent and internet access. There are other smaller cities filled with beautiful culture and breathtaking landscapes like Potosi and the Uyuni Salt Flats, Sucre beautiful old architecture, Tatija with a flourishing wine industry, Oruro rich in culture with their world famous Carnaval and Beni and Pando which are in the amazon basin great for rain forest adventures.
