As a 2007 prius owner, I can confidently say I average 50-55mpg and the car is much nicer than you would expect. I got an option using the ideal car strategies for $2700 with just 100k miles and I use it for doordash and gas practically feels free. I highly recommend the 2nd generation prius. The 3rd gen doesn't offer enough new features to pay the premium for those models over the 2nd generation.

We have the Chevy Volt, I love it. When i first went to buy it my husband wasn't really on board. I think he thought it would be tiny and slow. Now you can't keep him out of the thing, LOL
Looking at this video now that gas is 5.50$@ gallon
Excellent comprehensive overview… I’d say you nailed it with all 8 choices. I think the key is, don’t be afraid of buying one of these with 100k miles. My choice would be your first offering: Camry, nevertheless the Avalon rocks 🤩 Thanks for a great KZread post !
Thank you for bringing the top blank cars back! You should do one with torque numbers!
Ugh finally a great video for cheap hybrids! Great job guys keep on goin like this!
I own a 2014 Kia Optima EX Hybrid and this car is way better interior-wise than most gas-powered base models. I get close to 40 mpg on the highway and roughly 32 City, Completely Fueled it gives me 550 Miles to drive, and the battery offers roughly 25-50 miles after the gas, depends on how you're driving it. I got it at 70k Miles for roughly 13k$. My previous vehicle was a 3.3l V6 and filled up my car about twice a week and with my "new" car, bout once a week and that includes a roughly 200 mile trip in one day. I was disappointed to not see the KIA on the list, It's super fun to drive, and its sounds amazing stock. KIA is definitely an underrated car brand, mostly due to its bad start lol.

Thank you for the info !!
I’m still sticking with my 15 Prius the Volt would be nice if I had a place to charge but I usually average 62 mpg at 65 mph. I have driven it from LA to TX stayed for 3 days driving around TX than to Miami to Key West for 2 weeks. The car idled if I wasn’t driving it for at least 8 hours a day in FL. Than drove back to LA and it only cost me $326 in gas!! My trunk was packed by the way. Although I wanted to get a new Camaro in 2015 instead of the Prius. I wouldn’t have changed this experience for anything.
I picked up a 2010 Insight last year for about 5k and I freaking love it! The look of the insight grew on me and I do not care if it looks like it does. All I care about is the MPGs and the reliability which was a no brainer. I sold my 1994 EG which I sad but man it showed its again and I no time for a project car. The Insight definitely made me forget about my old hatch and this newer hatch has made it up.

In aprius? Not at all. You can do it in your driveway in a few hours for less than $3000. Cost is lower than the average transmission rebuild and given that these batteries are FAR exceeding OEM expectations, the battery replacement will last longer than the lifespan of the car. Getting 250k on the stock battery in a prius isn't unusual.

@@UpLevelGaming sounds about right. Everyone makes a big deal about the batteries but forgets that the batteries last as long as and cost as much as an automatic transmission so it's a non issue. In a prius specifically, it's even better because the average diy-er can replace the hybrid battery in their driveway in a few hours pretty easily. The same can't be said for doing a transmission swap on a modern car.

my 2016 Prius three with stock wheels sometimes gets 68 mpg with my 17 inch wheels I get around 55 mpg highway and 63 regular. currently I've been customizing it to make the Prius "cool" lol
I owned a yf sonata hybrid and I can say it was great 600miles per tank hwy over 500 if you drive easy in the city and it was not to bad to drive decently quick right around the 7 second range with a 6 speed rather than a cvt
I live in the north. I can confirm that I did get 40+ mpg in the summer at 60 mph and under. However in the cold of winter that MPG went down to 22-25 depending on the temperature. (batteries don't work well in the cold) If you get on the highway and cruse at 70 following traffic then that mileage went down to 25-30 depending on the direction of the wind. I found that if I bought the same car with a conventional gas engine it was a wash because it out performed the Hybrid in non optimal conditions. If you live in a city buy a hybrid.
My dad’s cayenne s e hybrid changed my mind on those typical hybrid stereotypes.
The thing that sucks is, I live in Palm Beach County, Florida. Each time I look for a cheaper hybrid or any type of car, its rarely cheap here, and the cheapest ones are like 20-50 miles away
Except for Cracked Heads, Every Valve Rattles, Oil Leaks Every Time car segments, your video is amazing. I'd go for the Camry, Avalone, or Insight respectively.
I wish you mentioned the ranges of both the electric and gas portion. That would have been really helpful.
The Malibu, awesome videos bro
I agree the Chevy Volt is a good car, I had one before I bought my new Tesla, I would love to have that car back. It charged to 63 miles which covered most of my local driving. The one year I had it I was still driving on the original gas from the dealer. I never went to a gas station.

I think if I ever was to get a Hybrid vehicle it would either be the Rav-4 PRIME, or the Prius-V I like the look of both of these vehicles🤔😎👍🏻👍🏻.
A friend of mine has a 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid with 192,000 miles on it. Original hybrid battery and still gets 40 mpg
You didn't mention the Volkswagen hybrid. Or the Lincoln hybrid. One day I saw a Ford fusion I was surprised by how nice the interior was.. the Hyundai and the Volkswagen both use regular transmissions versus the others
I had a Omni Miser and on a trip from Grand Rapids, Michigan to Milwaukee Wisconsin, drove through Chicago, i got over 50 mpg. Had four people in the car.
Unfortunately, one year after this video was made, all the cars are now 70% more expensive than quoted here.
You should do a video on sporter cars that can comfortably fit people 6ft or taller and that are bigger then the average person. Hard to find sports cars for bigger peeps.
My favorite hybrid is the cadillac ELR
I wish the prices were still accurate. But either way, I picked up a sonata hybrid limited for 13k with 52,000 miles. It's been super nice.
You also have to worry about the battery integrity Despite the motor charging the electric motor, the electric motor pulls it's energy from a battery.
Great video. Looking at a buying a Used Prius but it's super popular in my City (NYC) s o the resale price within several states is overblown. Looking for something great on gas but has good courier space. A Prius V would be ideal.
i have i 2009 Altime Hybrid and it drives great, it's a quick car, and it has great milage.

I don't like nitpicking, but the Chevy volt is an electric vehicle. When it runs out of juice it uses a gas generator that charges the battery. It also need premium, but it's worth it cause the millage is so good.

could you do one that like best mpg and cheap suv's or hatch backs, but look good too, not like the insight or pius??
Just get anything before 2001 Honda Civic, they came manual, and they are more fuel efficient than some hybrids out there. Also they cost like $300-$2,000 or more if you want immaculate condition. Plus they are very fun even tho they are tremendously slow.
I’d like my next car to be a late model Prius, but they’re just too pricey for me. I recently considered a 2018 Volt and liked it a lot. But there are some concerning issues with it, notably the battery energy control module ($$$) which has failed in many Volts. I passed on the Volt. Now I’m looking at Malibu hybrids and liking the features and pricing. But they’re few and far between in my area. But when I find one at the right price, my choice will be the Malibu hybrid.
I'm with you Mr. Danger but the problem with older hybrids is battery life. You buy a hybrid with 100 thousand miles and you're looking at a car that's used half of its lives. If you buy one with low miles your paying close to new car prices. For example, a 2017 Camry Hybrid with less than 30K will run you close to 20 Gs. You can get a naturally aspirated 2020 Camry with low miles for about the same price. The Hybrid gets 37 Highway. The newer naturally aspirated version gets 39 plus a ton more features.
I’m vaguely considering doing driving gigs full or part time. Maybe getting a used hybrid and trying it out is the way to go instead of going all out.
I have a 2017 Lincoln MKZ Hybird about 38 MPG - Full Time Uber
2016 honda civic 47 mpg on the highway. I can drive from Suffolk VA to Adam's Morgan district DC and back on 1 tank.
Hey brad wanted your opinion on the peugoet RCZ 2012 do you think it’s reliable and worth buying??
My choice is still the Prius, but used models are going for big bucks (relatively) - more than I am going to shell out. So learning about some alternatives is enlightening. Thanks for this video.

05 civic hybrid got it for 200$ haven’t don’t shit to it for 50,000 miles on it of course fluids but she’s so reliable
Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid! I'm not an expert on cars but I think because of the Turbocharged engine it gets slightly less MPG's than it's competitors- (I've heard others gripe about this). At any rate, it still falls into your category of hybrids under 10k!
I’ve got a 2010 fusion and mines still kickin at 180k no problems at all
I wish I would have bought a Hybrid when this video came out. I need one now with these gas prices.
The thing with the Chevy Volt is that while it doesn’t have the highest flat out MPG, if you don’t drive more than 50ish miles per day, you won’t even have to use gas at all. So if you’re not commuting extremely long distances where the extra 5-10 gas mpg will override 50 miles of electric only, the Chevy volt is the way to go.
Cheapest I found for a 2017 carmry hybrid was 18000 with 13600 miles, good luck at 8000
Do you have any recommendations for SUV's with this same criteria?
Need to correct you on something, the volts range is not that small on the gasoline generator side. Early models are 32 miles of electric range and then 8 is gallons of gas reserve. I used to get over 300 miles in a straight drive with my 2012 easy. However if I was staying within that 32 mile electric range, I regularly went 1200+ miles between fillups. Hell, my first year of ownership I went to the gas station barely 7 times in the entire year. Newer models (2016 and up) got a higher electric range, from 32 to 55. And still had the same size gas tank in reserve. Hope this helps!
Picking up a 2013 Chevy Volt today... This is my third hybrid, having had a 2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid, KIA Niro PHEV, and now the Volt. The Volt is everything Tesla is and isn't and better than Ford (Prius) models or the Niro. The battery pack is cooled and heated. The BMS never charges the LiPo batteries to full capacity and limits discharge to 30% maximum drain. GM created the Perfect Hybrid Drive train. 😅
Definitely would go Camry or Avalon
So,,, when something goes wrong and you pay the technician, then all the gas savings get sucked out of your wallet 🤔
Make additional video about full size non hybrid (money saver ) gas saver !) and start no less than 34 mpg.
You want to hear something crazy Honda’s 1st gen Insight get on Ave 200,000++ miles before motors begins to get tired while getting Not 40 or50 but 60+mpg! Yup, 60mpg folks. Down side is it burns battery packs in 6 to 8 yrs and max speed only 110mph from 98horses. If it was mine I’d pop the head (I’m a mechanic nerd) and port+polish the head, up the ignition pack+plugs/wires, headers, flow exhaust without making excess noise and up the radiator size to keep her running cool in summer in Southern California. Any other ideas guys without going in the bottom end? Cold ram air? Love 3 cyl bikes, lots of torque.

“Even if you drove it like you stole it, you’re still getting 40 miles per gallon.” This right here is the point I’m trying to make when I say how great my hybrid is. I’m always in the passing lane. People might bitch that a Prius is in front of them but I’m already a mile ahead. And yes, they are still bemoaning they are stuck behind me.😄People don’t drive their performance cars like they should on my daily commute. I, a Prius, have to go around them.
