What is people’s deal with having more realism in video games? The entire reason I’m playing a video game is to escape reality…

Depends if you want your challenge to be how many bullets you put into an enemy, as opposed to the challenge being in carefully planning your load around how many bullets you can carry; added bonus if you're on survival and have to balance that against how much water you'll need to bring

Towards the end of Breath of the Wild, I just started using the Weapon Durability glitch. Only to find out that Ganon was a total pushover. Tough break about the surgery. I remember after my hernia surgery, I was super nauseous and vomitty from the anesthetic, so be mindful of that when you regain consciousness. Then again I was 14 at the time.
BotW & TotK's weapon systems would've been completely worthless without durability. I think it was necessary, and in both games I had such an overwhelming wealth of incoming weapons that it never effected me negatively at all. I could see a potential issue if a player hoards their weapons when they start flashing red instead of letting them break, because then you get an inventory full of nearly broken weapons and could run out, but that's a player issue, not a design issue in my opinion. Without the puzzles, Hellblade's gameplay would've just been a walking simulator with a few combat interruptions. What reason would there have been to explore the various areas?
In Fallout 3 I once went like 10 times in and out a vault I was exploring to sell stuff. 😐 I have a hoarding issue yes.

Gee. I think the most I did was going back to that merc HQ two or three times, but that was mostly to get as many spare armors as possible. (That was before I had access to the winterized t-51b.) You carry every tin can out of that vault?

Hellblade 1 was trippy as all hell and even moreso when you have good headphones to go along But, and this is a spoiler if WhatCulture doesnt mention it The whole "start all over if it reaches your head" thing was such a cool idea, is awesome it was only part of the narrative but also kinda sucks its only part of the narrative Still a great game but only worth 1 playthru for better or worse

@@walterwhite7376 The mechanic is not a lie. It's a bit of a misdirection, though. At the end of the game, Senua dies in the last fight, the rot reaches her head, and her journey is over. And since there's no end game material, if you want to keep playing you have to start over. Just like they promised.

Honestly, Gat kind of was. If I remember right, it was mainly made to be something to add to the Saints Row 4 rerelease on Xbox one and PS4, with the earlier consoles being a 20 buck stand alone title as it had been years since the game had released so putting it as DLC by that point it would had been limiting to the sales. I think it is better this way as I would rather have the option of the game on a disc any way.

final fantasy 8. with the draw magic mechanic, it would have a player grinding magic stock, as opposed to levelling. And rarely casting spells. It was beneficial for players to keep all the characters the same and lowest level possible since the enemies scaled by party level, not by magic drawn. In practice this would mean running from battles as much as possible.
Get well soon on your speedy recovery!
To be fair, you do eventually get a teleport in the Gummi ship sections of Kingdom Hearts 1. Of course it only applies if you’ve already been to a world, but it’s not like you have to travel the long way every single time. And by the time you get to KH3, the Gummi Ship sections are somehow one of my favorite parts of that game, with almost unlimited exploration, tough, rewarding hidden bosses, and even upgrade materials for the other sections of the game.
Psy cutting herself in when jules was trying to emulate DK was a great skit.

Poor Jules proving health care stereotypes correct. In America we have plenty of doctors/surgeries available but people can't afford them and in Britain they can afford them but can't schedule them. We leave in a messed up world.

10 stand alone sequels and spin off games 10 mobile games actually worth your time 10 games that everyone doubted would be good and made us eat our words
8 games that made you hate yourself for playing
8 moments in gaming that you literally dropped your controller. (Be it impressive, aggravating or even being asked to in the case of the Wii’s Wario Ware.) Love you Jules!
I'm personally part of the minority that enjoyed the gummy ship in Kingdom Hearts. The customization was fun to me. Anyway, my suggestion for next week is "8 children's games that are actually a blast to play"
How did palutina trip..she floats..
First thing that came to mind was of course the weapon breaking from BotW. I actually enjoy the Gummi Ship in Kingdom Hearts by itself, but what I didn't enjoy was SO MUCH OF IT. And although they were slow, I really didn't mind the puzzles in Hellblade, and for the most part I enjoyed them. The first time through at least. Not even just the puzzles, the entire game is built for a single playthrough, and anything past that is a painful slog. Still one of the very best games of 2017 though haha.
8 video game Sidekicks that proved why they will always be sidekicks
I... I actually enjoy the Gummy ships lol. Building a custom ship that can just blast it's way between worlds is fun.
If you thought the rune puzzles were tediously debilitating to the game, imagine having the psychoses that inspired them.
Woah, I'm going to go ahead and full stop you on the Gummi ships. Poor man's Star Fox? Did Star Fox ever let you build your ship from scratch? Some of those flights were some of the best parts of the games
Thank you Jules for putting rubber banding in the number one spot. I hate this mechanic so much I don't understand why any racing game regardless if it's Mario kart 64,need for speed or Gran Turismo has to punish you for being a good driver. It would be like leading the Daytona 500 with one lap to go in the final corner and just before you reach the finish line somebody throws a banana peel, you spin out and finish in 6th. How in the holy hell is that justified by anybody I don't know.
Bathesda: How much should a warhammer weigh?? Dude: 25 pounds?? History: HEAVIEST warhammer was around 14kg.
Suggestion: gaming mechanics that should be standard. Shoulder swapping in third person games Peeking in fps games Simple vehicles in games thst desperately need it. (Im looking at you fallout, if people can modded drivable cars and new vegas, doesnt mean you cant) Stealth being an option in games that provide stealthy mechanic (silenced guns in gta are useless since three kills will alert more enemies, crouching does nothing) Quicksaving for anytype of game. To go along with the stealth in games. Examples being games where stealth is an option, i hate when i go stealth in a game that only auto saves only to get caught at the end negating any of the stealth i had in the beginning. But with quick saving I'm able to quicksave right before i get into situations where i might get caught. Examples being: sneaking around the arasaka warehouse with takumara to sabotage the parade float in cyberpunk.
Dead Island and Riptide having both forced fps perspective and a near useless radar/minimap is almost enough to make me pitch my copy out the window. Wanna know where the zombies are? Well, theres one to your left, he shows up as a skull in this handy little circle in the corner of the screen. Fair warning though, that's only because hes a quest-essential kill. There are also eight charging at your back, but they don't have a quest involved, so they won't show up. Also your peripheral vision is basically a toilet paper roll telescope, because you're irreversibly locked into first person, so good luck knowing those zombies are there bef-aaahhh, they're chewing on your spine. Okay. Try again!
Two types of Bethesda game mod styles: 1. Can't play without carry weight expansion mods because they don't want to deal with managing inventory 2. Can't play without weight rebalances that massively lower carry weight while increasing item weight to realistic standards, survival mods, and damage/AI rebalance that all together actually gives challenge to surviving the wasteland
I'll take Cait Sith's box throwing over FF XV Chapter 13 Corridor any day of the week 24/8

I thought that was Psy but couldn't tell. Assuming it's also Psy in the pillow fight part also then.
Contra: Shattered Soldier and Neo Contra. The Hit Rate system.
I’m torn on hellblade, a few of them are very well done and it’s extremely satisfying when the rune clicks into place, like learning an answer for a riddle that seems so obvious after the fact. But damn were there a lot of tedious ones.
Those Hellblade puzzles are the absolute worst. Especially for someone like me with a visual disability. Those puzzles are the sole reason I've never completed the game.
@stephanhuebner4931
Ай бұрын
I understand that people with visual disabilities might have problems with these, but I actually enjoyed them.
When it comes to video game mechanics, i swear some of them are Friday jobs
The boxes-bit should have referenced the beginning of the monty Python episode "mr. Neutron"
I actually happen to enjoy the Gummi ship parts. Especially with how you can build powerhouse ships and practically create a wave of lasers and cannons and plow through enemies
Here is a suggestion though you might have covered this: video games that came out of nowhere and became popular
Sim settlements 1 and 2 solves the carry weight issues for fallout 4 with 1 you had to install a mod called salvage beacons where you could carry beacons around fill up your inventory pop the stuff into a box, a beacon and forget it and sim settlements 2 has that in the mod itself
word of advice, don't take anesthesia for hernia repair, just tell them to put you to sleep
Understandable with the weight carry limit in Skyrim but 3 work arounds at least are potions and have an ally and place the items you want to take with you can't carry with you in a spot you can quickly get to when you teleport.
@tubensalat1453
Ай бұрын
I always had two potions for that on me, "just in case", but mostly I just went with that spell and eventually swapping out my "battle jewelry" with my "utility jewelry". With three pieces of bling to help me haul more loot and one or two enchanted pieces of armor increasing my strength there was a hardly a situation where my greed wasn't satisfied.
Elder Scrolls: I guess I can't argue with being overencumbered for carrying 38 suits of armor Fallout: You're right, I should be overencumbered for carrying 12 miniguns and 15 boxes of ammunition for it Starfield: Sure would be awkward if I was overencumbered for carrying 6 pistols and a bag of alien jerky
Feel like rubber banding should be a setting in the next Mario kart where you can adjust how strong it is or just completely turn it off
I liked the gummi ship sections, which got far better in each game.
Dawg Psy is HILARIOUS 😂😂🤣🤣
Here's a suggestion: games that pull the old bait and switch. Games that have a single-player campaign, BUT have levels that require co-op or you can't beat the game, such as Metroid Prime Federation Force. Nobody else I know had the game, so I had to quit playing...
8-10 games where there was sacred land, and evil invaded it.
8 of the best games within games. Talking Blitzball
Ore mining in Gravity Rush 2. It's such a monotonous task, the amount of ore you get is tiny and the areas are really bland.
Cait Sith's mini gun was 8 pounds of hot- Me: -that's cait sith!
Fights that annoy the hell out of us. For example, in God of War there is a scene that I kept dying at where Atreus would shout drauger.
Oof, tough break there Jules! But you know what might make you feel... Well, if not better, then amused? That's right, that classic Weird Al Yankovic hit: "Living With a Hernia!"
I am playing Elex 2 right now and the no limit on weight thing is so nice. If Bethesda games had an accessibility option to turn off weight limits, I would definitely do it and not reel like cheating.
8 anticipated games in development hell
10 amazing games ruined by Studio interference (or something similar) would be a Brill wedding present ❤
Jules!!! I have a hernia, too! It is huge and I need to get it fixed so bad!
8 great games where you hated the main character.
Sad to see Square Enix is still obsessed with putting the worst mini games possible in their games. They really need to have a board meeting to address that.
How are you going to trip, when you are hovering above the ground. Literally the last smash brawl character was levitating and managed to trip
My MarioKart 64/double dash tactic was to deliberately sit is second until the last min and try and win that way the rubber banding was that bad
Weapon Durability in Breath of the Wild adds a bit of realism to the game. And it is also so that you conserve your weapons Jules. After all, the game wouldn’t be fun if every weapon couldn’t break.
Great list as usual!

VEN VR on the PS5 could have been sooo good and a true placeholder until we get a new Astrobot on the VR2. The game is lovely, most of the levels are clever. But what annoys me the most is the control with the VR Headset and the fact that Ven reacts to your head movement! You run straight ahead across a bridge but as soon as you look around Ven is turning left or right and you have to countersteer. This killed me of sooo many times!!!
Seven side quests that were better than the main quest.
Games we constantly complain about but keep playing anyway
i was expecting the complaint about hellblade to be the combat since that got old really fast especially with the whopping 5 enemy types.
100% agree with the gummi ship mini game in kingdom hearts. man i hated that mechanic.
Scaling and climbing during rainfall in BOTW and TOTK...
The hilarious thing about the carry weight in Bethesda games (specifically Fallout) is that while weapons and gear and items have weight... ammo often DOESN'T. So I once looked up what the average weight of bullets and rockets and whatnot is. Then i did some math and cracked up laughing. Aside from the fact that I'm carrying like 18 weapons, I apparently had like 9 TONS of ammo on me in Fallout 4. So Bethesda's carry weight is both overly restrictive AND utterly bonkers broken SIMULTANEOUSLY.
