I actually won a quick game last night with a Bishop deflection as Black and was inspired to share after seeing this video just now: 1. b3 d5, 2. Bb2 Nc6, 3. g3 e5, 4. Bg2 Bf5, 5. h3 Nb4, 6. d3 e4, 7. c3 exd3? (I make the first mistake.) 8. cxb4 Bxb4+, 9. Kf1 dxe2+, 10. Qxe2+ Qe7, 11. Bxg7? Bd3, (Ironically, from my mistake until move 11, the engine says my opponent played all best moves.) 12. Qxd3?? Qe1#.

i didn't but i thought about it. nice tactic though i never would have considered that move to work in certain situations.

game 1 was like white: aha! you fell for my trap black: you fool! it was all part of my plan the whole time stockfish: be quiet mortals, white was correct for the wrong reason. come back to me when you can see 69 moves ahead

White wasn't even correct. It turns out that the trap didn't work at all, not becuase Black's "escape" was bad.

Some of these were amazing indeed. The title kind of spoils the answers, I wonder if it's possible to mix things up a bit more in future videos.

Pretty awesome idea especially the ones luring the rook off the back rank to create your own threat. Also I really enjoy these, but I caution you to delay the release of other videos on the topic to not over saturate the channel with the same idea. I think about a month between any follow-up videos would be good

2:34 why can’t you just block the bishop with you knight and is the bishop takes the knight you take back with you pawn. That’s probably why it was the top engine move.

White can take your knight with his knight (Nxd5) instead of the bishop and then there's a lot of variations to calculate, but black is probably losing in all of them (Namely, you can't take the knight with cxd5 because then you lose the queen with Bxd5. If Be6 instead of cxd5 I'm assuming Ne7+ wins, black has to move the king and lose the bishop, at least the queen is safe but still down a piece with a pawn on d6, still losing. Also, the queen has no good square to move away to, so the knight is just going to move next and you are losing that queen). I wish the video showed this line too, though

17:40 That is actually surprisingly common. In the opening, especially in e4 openings(which is what I play with white and is the most common first move), the e-file can often open and before the kings have castled, White plays Qe2+ and Black plays Qe7. This actually happens a lot. It is pretty cool, though, especially when it happens mid-game like this time.

I liked the Tactic (Deflection) and also make videos on tactics from basic to advanced. It would really help.

Important variation not discussed in game 2: Instead of Bf1, if white plays Kh2 Qg3+ Kg1 Qe1+ Bf1, then black has Qe3+ followed by Qh6, stopping the mate and winning.

At 10:32 after Rxe1+ and f2 Couldnt black just play the move Nd3+ to protect the rook which is protecting the pawn while simultaneously giving a check

I really don't understand why it's necessary to give a check with Rook f1 in game 5. We can just give check with Knight d3 and it'll protect our Rook from being captured too. And I'm pretty sure that after that check it's a good position for black... If I'm wrong in something, please do correct me.

8:14 Well, the only Option for Black left here is Queen b6 to c7. It makes it more challenging for white :) Black also had the Option instead of capturing whites Bishop to move pH6 H5.

17:06 black can quickly force a draw with this position though. Black can play queen takes c2 check. The white bishop can come back to block on c3, but we have the same problem so black can force repetition by going back and forth and the bishop has to keep blocking to avoid the king/rook fork on white

Why should white has to block the check again using bishop? White can simply bring King to G1 or Rook to F2. No more check can be given by black and black forcefully needs to capture Rook on H7 to avoid check mate and white bishop can still capture black bishop and gain an extra piece.

back then, when i was learning the basics, i wouldn't think of sacrificing material. always be on the lookout for deflection/decoy tactics. as i've learned from josh waitzkin - chessmaster 10th edition, do not always go with mechanical thinking.

This video highlighted the idea that a mating threat is a major way to gain tempo, just like a check, and if queens are in the mix, they can be used to win them or even minor pieces. Never considered their power in this way.

In a couple positions, it's possible for black to exchange the queen for a rook and minor piece, though I doubt it would change the outcomes.

2:34 knight could just go with 5d

11:25 bish to e8 is also a checkmate and it's 2 moves aswell

Please mix up deflection tactics of rook , bishop and knight. So that it can be difficult for us to guess

on Game 8 i do have a Question: after playing Bf3, Rf3 (Captured Bishop), why can't the King just take the Knight? if their Queen takes you simply go Kf8, you're able to play the same Rook move and checkmate, just that you have captured another piece from white and if white plays Rg3, black can also simply play Kf8 and then white has to capture Black's queen, cause they cant threaten Black otherwise due to blacks rook covering c5 and b4, which then enables the rooks to checkmate and if white does move their rook back to the backline, black takes queen. isnt that the same way just that you made White loose even more, due to the fact that their Knight is no longer an option? nvm... i solved the problem on my own, if Black captures whites Knight, White gets an extra move cause of it and is able to get the Rook back to the backline for free.

7:27 Bd4 to deflect Black bishop's threat on White's rook maintain the rook on the 8th rank coz White has the idea to sacrifice that piece into a Queen check then check again and mate. Black can't simply take the rook either otherwise he will drop his Queen :/
