Awesome episode! It was so interesting (a huge part of it is because all of you are so much fun and like to be together). I could have watched you playing the complete game, even if it took 20 hours. But I guess editing would be a pain in the a** and Lincoln would go crazy x-D
2:20:40 can confirm on the puzzles ;) I really hope you took the time to play it further after the show. Great episode, thanks for showing this pretty spoiler free part of the curse!
Finally got this game. I love watching the video on how to play it. I plan on getting more expansions/curses. Does seem a bit complicated but the video doesn't ruin it for me because there could be countless of gameplay to this. Experiences can be different. That's how i see this. :)
I just started playing this game solo and I really enjoy it. Two and a half hours in and I’m already most of the way through my card 777 opportunity. Hours and hours of play ahead. I’m excited to play it with my board game buddies too and have one of us understand how to play so we’re not four lost souls wandering the abandoned isle. Thanks for the play through
The woven basket is a very important item. It allows you to store 3 food items in the same stack. Very important when you play with a lot players since space is even more limited.
“You can all work on my pole!” “I will help you CRAFT your pole.” That made me LOL, well played folks.
Excellent taster of the game guys, definitely on my wish list now. Still would like to know what happens if you don't have both cogs, epic!
We just horribly failed our first attempt when leaving the small island on a raft. We were sure we made some mistakes. Then I found that video and we discovered that we made a few small but important mistakes. Thanks for explaining the game so well and giving us some more insight. We‘ve been playing for about 9 hours today and reached the destination of the voracious goddess- only to find out we were missing some items (like e.g. the cogs for the submarine). Now we have to find something with no action deck left anymore. I.e. we can die any move.
1:10:29 - You actually *can* treat an inventory as a "giant super item." :) See page 21 in the rules: "Using an item enables the player to freely choose to apply some or all of the effects of **one or more** Item cards it consists of." (emphasis added) I find this is really helpful to stack the effects at times.

Brian Baker I also looked it up since I knew there was something in the rules ;) otherwise I would have played it wrong for 15 hours
This feels like one of those games that once I finally get a hang of the rules, I'll really enjoy it. But there's a lot of icons and mechanics to deal with , so it's gonna take a bit more youtubing before I'm confident 😂
Glad you are feeling better Dave!! 🎉🎉
Really enjoyed video, friend has copy and his opinion, plus your video, plus dice tower and a skim of the kickstarter got me to back
Cool that you're playing this! I can't watch because I've backed it on kickstarter.
2:09:00 you DID find food ;) the fish you got IS food you could consume. You also found the Firestones item which lets you place fire on your current tile. Then, if reading the action on the food card Nikki has, you would be able to cook it. What is not on the small island is indeed hunting or fishing.
2:17:00 about randomness, for example there was the dead seagull on one tile. When you explored that one, there are 2 or 3 green cards and a gold one. And since there was no permanent golden arrow attached, you would have even been allowed to explore the same action again. The first one was put into the past, making sure you will not draw the same one again. And once you are through the green ones, the golden one maybe just tell you there is nothing interesting (which you could theoretically draw over and over again wasting your time)
A "gout" of steam is the correct term, but "gust" is a fair replacement. It's sort of an eruption, or a burst from a vent. Good series of videos!
The game is really fun! Now that Ive played it, I can finally watch this video
Just an FYI - At around 38:00 regarding the Woven Cord and the fire figure: You can craft the Woven Cord, once crafted, you can use it once to put the a fire figure on the map card you're on. Just because you have the fire figure, doesn't mean you can put it on the terrain card without performing an action to do so. Fire is for cooking food and also reduces movement cost back to the fire (same as reducing movement cost of another player figure). Not sure if you clarify this later in the video, posting this as I watch.

Another quick FYI - The Past is just a place to temporarily store cards that will go back in the box in numbered order. You can do this at the end of the session, beginning of the next session or between sessions (part of saving the game). Banished cards are banished for the entire game. You put them back in numbered order after you solve the curse or lose the entire game.
2:00:00 this Card only applies when you eat food (brown icon) which is done by taking the eat action (white icon) on food cards like the fish you got ;) so you effectively get one food card more when eating which is huge. The small tutorial doesn’t really pressure you through the action deck. The real game soon afterwards does.
When you said it is a long game I was thinking months...20+hrs is just a weekend 😂
2:17:01 Or maybe they have pieces that don't even come into play, so that you never know whether you should expect something on a tile or not.
Cant wait for this game -.- can you pelase tell an episode over saving a game is that usefull ? i dont know if that really helps you. it seems wierd that your life stack geos down but you have to revisit all the places again just with fewer life stack .
The way I understand it is that the purpose for multiple cards with the same number comes into play once you Save your game. You put all the cards you've played into "The Past" and when you start another session, you'll have to explore island spaces you've already been to. But the game could change because now you'd be pulling the same number with a variation. Maybe it had snow on it before and now it's melted and there's a cave you couldn't see before. So as you take time away from the game (by saving), the game also can change when you go back to it.

You are correct there. It’s about variations, and you always should pick one randomly if there are multiple greens not just the first one.
A lot of comments on here about this game seeming complicated, but it seems fairly self-explanatory to me. But maybe that’s because I have always played a lot of video games?
Looks more complicated than the Cones of Dunshire

Lol
2:06:00 when saving, you should place the inventory cards with the numbers UNDER your character and skill cards. Making it easier to distribute them to the correct players when „loading“
@Falco20019

This is especially necessary since you also have combined items. So you know, all beyond a number up till the next number or character card belong together. If you have the other skill (hand) cards below, you would need to remember it yourself, which completely misses the elegance of this system

Banished cards stay behind the divider, the past gets sorted back in as Dave correctly said
An hour and 20 minutes in and they're still struggling to understand the rules... not sure I'm looking forward to getting this as I was before watching lol. Seems pretty convoluted if you guys are struggling. Thanks for another great video guys.
1 minutes since upload! Great timing =)
If you want to split and 2 of you go to another direction. How the Active player and actions go?
I'm seeing this game advertised in the UK for £250+ ($335)!! My first car was cheaper. I loved the video guys, and I kind of like the look of the game, but could someone explain the price to me..? Seems crazy. Just played my first Exit: the game for £12 and we all loved it. Finished very quickly but great fun, great interaction and many laughs, I would need a pretty special play for £250!!
Great fun solo, but I can't see playing this with a group of more than 2 total.
My group of 2 and I had lift the Voracious Goddess curse. Took us 7-8 hours to finish in one sitting because it was so mesmerizing, but found the ending weirdly unsatisfying though. Not sure whether it was the game ending or we played it wrong.

Franky Tunggal Djaja from what I've read people seem to dislike the first curse and wish it wasn't the starting one.

Franky Tunggal Djaja interesting. I am 13 hours into the first curse. Took some detours and am still not through the first one, but still alive. Barely.
When one takes an action with a staircase on it, does another player have to move their figure to the same area as the active player, or can they help from far away, participating in the action, but doing something else?

Late answer but: The steps mean every player needs to be on the same location to be able to perform the action.
When I saw the title of the episode, I was like "As if this game isn't hot enough on Kickstarter already, this show is going to add oil onto the fire!" *heheheh. And, since I have backed this on KS too, I was too afraid of spoiler and didn't watch the game play. Oh man, I really wanted to watch but I can't!
Someone im potentially buying this off for £135! Said he backed the kickstarter last year, wasnt it longer than that? Swear it was on KS years ago
stair actions have to be done together.
Spoiler-rific,, but I've already played this part ... so this is a blast to watch!
Form exploring an entire continent this game seems kinda slow paced :P
Did I catch a Jim Gaffigan reference?

Wood, wood, wood.
holy crap, 2 hour! long video.
This game isn't that hard to play. There was a bit too much front-loading here and using game jargon to speak mechanically about what's actually going on in the story. Just an FYI for others who don't get a positive impression from this video.

Agreed. Here's my summary: "The only thing you ever do in this game is to execute an action in a white square, and resolve it". Now start paying the game and explain the actions available, and show how to resolve them.
Did anyone else see the spirit attach to Dave from the top left. kzread.info/dash/bejne/ap97upZ-hsXSltI.htmlm2s O....M....G.... lol
No sure I want to watch this. Having backed the current Kickstarter I don't want to see any of the content. May just skip to the end for thoughts but not sure I even want to do that!

BoardGameGeekTV Thanks Lincoln. I'll give it a watch then. Just saw the length of the video and expected to see a bit more of the game than I'd like (although I'll probably forget everything anyway by the time I get it).

I don't know if you already watched this but don't worry, they only play the small "tutorial" first part that has already revealed in one of the developers video, if i recall right
This looks like a game that is going to require an expert of the rules and an alpha gamer to move the game along. Otherwise, I can't see it working smoothly.

Striker J the rules are simple once you got them. The first island shown here is just a small tutorial to the real island showing most (not all) of the base mechanics to get used to them.

I think Dave decided that it was easy enough that he'd just teach the rules of the game as they went along, so it seems like they're confused on the rules when really it's just that they're hearing the rule for the first time. I think the manual is only 4-6 pages long with a pretty large font and lots of examples (if I remember correctly). It's about as difficult to learn as say...Five Tribes, Expedition: Northwest Passage, Dice Forge, Evolution, Lords of Waterdeep, etc. A touch under medium difficulty.

The rules are on par with your average FFG LCG, meaning they are incredibly fiddly and quite counter-intuitive at first, but once you nail them it's smooth sailing. The video is not really representative of actual gameplay, if you know what you're doing and you understand all the rules you can get quite far in 2 and a half hours. Also, I would never play this game with more than 2 players.
This game looked interesting to me. However im not sure why anyone would actually want to play this after watching. It seems too messy to actually enjoy any narrative at all.. Fair play to the players here, I would have fallen asleep or played something that is actually engaging. There are some really nice story games out there now that dont take an absolute age to learn or play, however this doesnt seem like one of those. Instead seems like one of those classic KS campaigns that simply tries to add too much at once..
Way too overly complicated for what it is. Simplifying rules is sometimes the best.
is this game worth it? Seems very long and complicated
"I'm guessing this will get us a card." Not the most immersive way to talk while playing. It's an adventure. Exploration and discovery are the heart of the game. How about "Hey guys, what about exploring this spot up here? I have a feeling we'll find something important."
Mike is cute.
Would actually have been good if all players were into the rules before starting. Less time explaining and more time playing. This quickly becomes boring to watch.
what a hot mess this game is
