The Perth Garden Festival was a couple of weeks ago (Mothers day weekend). When mum, my aunty and myself went there, Stihl had their usual display, this chainsaw was 1 of the display / demo items. Mum and my aunty ended up buying 1 each, cost from memory around $229AUD as it was a show special. During the demo (Mum tried it out before buying), the Stihl guy specifically said not to put any downward pressure on it, instead let the chainsaw do all the work. Did a pretty damned good job of the 4cm thick branch they had for people to try it on. Mum plans to use it when she goes caravaning, which is apparently what a lot of people buy it for.

great little saw to have in your camping kit.. save weight and space for cutting a bit of small firewood.

I'm fond of my Milwaukee recip saw for this sort of thing. Diablo pruning blade from bunnings sits at around $10 and blasts through tree branches and tree roots indiscriminately

You can get an extension handle now to cut up high, you should try it.

I like this review better than the Facebook version (I understand about video length, etc etc) but I’m still probably going to buy the Ryobi version. I don’t have anything over 60mm to get through (maintaining a residential lot) but it does look like the Stihl has some power packed into it. You have a lot to prune and tidy up, so that Stihl might be a good option for your conditions. Hi Maggie and Kevin! 👍

Just a tip for using any size chainsaw... on branches bigger than a few inches diameter, do a cut on the underside, just through the bark, and then do the top cut... this will stop the brank falling under it's own weight but not breaking off cleanly, held on by the bark... remove the bark to stop the branch peeling the bark back as it falls and leaving the cut damaged and open to infection or such... also a great ide on the ones on the ground, where the weight bearing is unknown, do the under cut, and the saw is much less likely to bind in the top cut, as it can break away at the bottom cut...if the material is bouncing off the chain, then the branch is not fully supported or dampened. Also watch your stance, crouching down is unstable, and if the branch or something falls away, you are not stable... try to get loose material onto a cutting platform or such, even just over another log... we want you to be safe, and do safe things...

Looks handy Tim, a mate of mine has the Ego 56 volt chainsaw and has never had issue with it. Need to hit them up to send you one on demo.

I would love to have a test of this device. I have a lot of palms trees and the fronds of the foxtails and royals are very hard once they have started to dry off and are too much for my human powered long handle bypass pruners. I run AEG 18v power tools and garden tools and thought about their reciprocating pruner, however, the Sthil hand chainsaw appears lots safer.

I would have bought this if it came with the pole attachment. I bought the itoolmax instead and yes they are so easy to use. I really needed the pole as I don’t feel safe standing on ladder and chainsawing. Got the job done so feel like it paid for itself in one days use. Handy tool.

I saw Blade Mate Sean using it on a big clean-up last year and wanted one. Had to wait a few months to get it, but it was worth it. I only have a residential block, but so much easier and quicker than a hand saw. My biggest bug bear is that the area where the chain attaches to the machine can get clogged with sawdust and I have to take the cover off to clean it out. Other than that, I quite like it. I don't have the tools or the skills to sharpen the chain but a new chain is only $26 or something so it's no biggie. My Dad was visiting when I bought it. He thought I was a bit nuts buying a 'toy' chainsaw but he went along with it. I have a feeling he didn't want me considering a 'real' chainsaw. He was shocked when he saw how effective it was and gave me a crash course in chainsaw safety. 🤣

I was given the $58 SAKER 18v mini chainsaw kit. You have to apply chain oil with a tiny drip bottle but price to performance is fantastic. It really comes in handy cutting the wider base of Palm fronds. Has two 18v 1.5ah lithium batteries but uses 1 at a time. Takes ages about an hours or so to charge unfortunately. Filled a 4 cubic meter skip bin using the little chainsaw 4 weeks ago. Makita has one and i believe it has its own oil reservoir.

The temu version is about $35 bucks 2 batteries comes with charger,and if you have them makita batteries will also fit

Dogs has a lot of running room

Not a bad little machine small compact saves lugging around a chainsaw. Kit includes only one battery?

Electronic pruners? I use the kebtek ones quite a bit

Can you remove the guard? Would be handy to make cuts on the underside of the branch.

I use mine all the time. Really good tool. However...be very careful, will kick back. Cost me 4hrs in AE and 22 stitches.

Do you have any golden cane palm trees that you can test it on? Those things are hard to cut because they are so hard, but also fibrous.

I've used it on palm fronds. I'm not sure what type palm tree they're from, but their big. It cuts through them easily when I cut them to fit into the green waste bin.

Obviously broken branches, branches at face height, branches across paths and tracks, branches striking buildings, and branches in the way of new construction are problems. That’s the whole point of the video. Nothing wrong with tidying up a property that was vacant for a few years. Better to trim them safely than wait for a storm to do it, as happened with the septic field.

They missed the boat totally when they didn't include a bar oil tank. Having to lube the chain manually is just silly
