One of the benefits of using a APS-C system is the affordable 3rd party lenses like this one from 7Artisans. I've tried and reviews a few other brands before but this is my first 7Artisans lens. I'm impressed and I can see myself incorporating this into my workflow.
Here's an Amazon affiliate link to purchase the lens. You know how affiliate links work, I get a small portion of each purchase made through the link.

    I own this lens; and I love the build quality. It's such a great lens to use-one of my favorites! That being said, it has that "glow" and softness until f/4. F4? Right it's sharp at f/4-8. I tested it against the 7Artisans 25mm f/18, which was sharp from 1.8. The build quality is good, but the 35mm is tremendosly better. So, I use this lens when I want to have fun, but the 25mm was more useful.

    This is a great lens. I actually appreciate it even more now than when I made this video. I might have to make a follow up video about it. I still need to try their 25mm. Thanks for watching and for the comment!

    What would u pick ? The TTARTISAN 35mm 1.4 or this 7artisans 35mm 1.2 mark 2?

    Craig, I think you're underselling the abilities of this lens. I've owned this particular lens in both versions and I actively use it for both street photography and professional shoots. It's based on an older lens design with modern abilities and is not meant to be a super sharp lens. For the average shooter, it's more than sharp enough. Where I've found it most useful for professional work is in portraiture. Mind you, the TTArtisan 50mm f1.2 is a better lens for that when compared to the 7Artisans 35mm f1.2. I'd say this is a better lens on the street than the Fujifilm XF 25mm f2 if manual focus is your thing and you want to replicate the film shooting experience. Who needs autofocus and weather sealing anyway.🤣🤣🤣

    That's awesome you're using it for so much! It's a solid lens for sure. But I felt in one way or another I expressed the spirit of what you mentioned in the video. I may have undersold it's capabilities, not sure. But on the other hand some people would say I over sold it. Lol. A lot of this is all subjective. The best I can do is express how it worked for me with what I shoot. I just really love the XF 35mm f2 and not just for sharpness, so it's difficult for me to replace that with anything, for street photography or otherwise. But I am keeping this lens and will use it for sure. Thank you for watching and for your feedback! I'm sure others will read your comment and take comfort in knowing others are doing so many great things with the lens.

    @@CraigBergonzoni indeed. I have a challenge for you, this is something I do to help me learn a lens and figure out a use case for it. Shoot with this lens for an entire month and don't shoot with anything else. This will force you to be more creative with this or any lenses for that matter. Don't get me wrong, there are a couple Fujnon lenses I love, the 23mm f2 being one of them as well as the 18-135mm f3.5-5.6. Both are great street and travel lenses. Since you're exploring inexpensive manual focus lenses, check out the ZonLai 22mm f1.8. This lens is super sharp and produces clean images. Check out my IG, @streetphonicz, to see images produced with that lens. You can thank me later. Happy shooting.

    Great suggestion! I recommend this with anyone but that's actually what I did with this lens. It may not have been an exact month but I mounted it on my camera and shot everything with it. I usually approach all my lenses in that fashion. I just don't always review them. And this is definitely a great practice to really learn a lens, I agree. I will give that ZonLai Lens a shot one of these days. It sounds very cool. Thank you for the recommendation. I truy appreciate your feedback!

    @@d.idowuolutosin4250 Hi. Since you mentioned the TTA50/1.2, how is it? Does it encourage you to capture images with it? I was suppose to purchase it for sure UNTIL I learned that it has a bokeh effect that doesn't suit my taste utterly from 1.4 and up (octagonal edgy shapes). But what draws me to it is its low cost and its clicked aperture VS the 7Artisans 35/0.95 I'm also considering (higher priced, de-clicked, but better bokeh balls). Also, do you still shoot the TTA50/1.2 regularly with it? Thanks.

    @@nathanielngosy the octagonal bokeh appears in the mid apertures(not closed or wide open) and only on certain distances. I don’t know how to explain that, but it’s weird.

    I've tried using the older version of this lens and I have to say that the "quality" (more like the feel) of the images at F1.2 is waaay better on this one. Really enjoyed this review, Craig! Also, just wanted to ask, what was the background music you used when you were showing your photo samples? 😅 Cheers!

    The TTARTISAN 35mm 1.4 is inspired by the Voigtlander Heliar lens design which also has the diagram of the lens element layout etched in the barrel of the lens.

    Why they call it photoelectric, is the exif data read by the camera, regard the f stop and the sposure?

  • @CraigBergonzoni

    @CraigBergonzoni

    2 жыл бұрын

    It has no electrical contacts so no data is passed to the camera. The term photoelectric is an old term that has nothing to do with electrical contacts, but the science behind the light passing through the glass.
