the vacuum advance unit. You can see it move a bit when I pump. The hose goes up to the carbs. Does that help or am I not understanding the question. Where the pencil was is where I hooked the vacuum pump

Hey Jamie, thanks for getting back to me. The vacuum advance on my bike will hold under suction but when it's hooked up to the carb, while the bike is running, it flutters on and off (A lot!). I'm guessing there's a leak somewhere. It looked like you had the tester vacuum pump hose hooked into the engine. I thought you were maybe doing a engine compression test.

No sorry I wasn't clear on it. I would say you could be right. Or something else could be wrong. Did it come to it's max smoothly and at the right vacuum? If it came up at a lower vacuum then I would say the advance unit is bad. Maybe the spring that returned it to zero is bad?
