THE best railroad video I have ever watched. That was a very professionally done charter and photo shoot, without leaving out even the smallest detail. The opening sequence that takes place at dawn, along with the silhouette at sunset are the most beautiful scenes of railroading I have ever seen.

Absolutely beautiful. I remember stories my late father told me about seeing and hearing beautiful steamers in southwest Pennsylvania back in the late '30's to the early '50's. This brought back those wonderful memories 🙂

They need to make more steam engines. Just better, and more economical to run. But use a similar design to the trains of old. Don't ask me how they'd make these cheaper to run. I'm not an engineer.

MisterBurgerBeachball1225 It’s impossible to make steam economical now. Far too many moving parts and staff required to keep it running, for not a whole lot in return compared to a modern diesel.

As an old guy that, as a kid running steam engines - Father was a railroad telegrapher - thoroughly enjoyed the nostalgic feelings you brought me. Now, being a film and video producer, I must compliment you on the great story construction and the expertise that you put into this production. Thanks so much

Unbelievable!!! I have been chasing the 765 with my dad (Doug Brown) since the 80's and I love that she is back out on the rails. The 1225 is also one of my favorites and these sites are simply amazing... Brings back memories of 1218 and 611 running side by side long ago. Yes make a full DVD!!!

These two identical engines were on my great Granddaddy’s railroad during the Collis P. Huntington Chapter in 91’. If the 1225 was part of the New River Trips to give the 765 a break. That would’ve been something fun to see.

Imagine this, it's 2010, you're a farmer working in the field next to railroad tracks, it's another busy day working in the summer and night is falling, then 2 massive beasts passing by you blaring their chime whistle, with a load of outdated freight, you remember them as a kid working with your father on the farm.

Very impressive to observe two "Berkshire" type locomotives double heading together on the same train, I always enjoy seeing footage of steam locomotives in operation. These operations scenes are repeats of railroad action during the 1940s-50s timespan, steam locomotives are interesting because there aren't many left in operation any longer and this reflects railroading operation from 65+ years ago.

Awesome video! I'm from Berkshire County MA, the county the Berkshire type is named after. I think it would be cool if these engines would make an excursion to the Berkshires where it first held its famous trials for the Boston and Albany railroad. My great great grandfather and his brother worked for the Boston and Albany, If I remember correctly my great great grandfather as an engineer and his brother a conductor, so some of the railroad yore is still passed down in family stories

Beautiful photography. Can someone elaborate why whistles are blown so long and often in the US? Here in Aust, they usually give one or two fairly quick blasts on approach to a level crossing and that's it. I assume there is some regulatory requirement over there relating to the operation of train whistles, or do the drivers just like to "let off a bit of steam"?

This is a great video, my compliments to the editor. American steam is at the top of the ladder and a real spectacle to watch. Just one comment though, I have driven freight and passenger trains in Australia for nearly 30 years and am now a senior accident investigator with the ATSB (roughly equivalent to your NTSB) and I have never heard so much unnecessary whistling. No other country in the world (save possibly Canada) uses the whistle so much. Anyway, it's still a great video.
