750Kg VW Golf GTi Mk1 || Full Onboard - Retro Rides Gathering

Among the machines we captured on Retro Rides Gathering 2018, was this very interesting VW Golf Mk1 owned, built and driven by Chris Priddle that had just arrived from the Nurburgring Nordschleife, while posting a very respectable 8:20 lap (with traffic) on its second try.
Of course that peaked our interest, so here you can see more about it and how Mr. Priddle drives this 1.8L Naturally Aspirated Pocket Rocket that while only producing 155Hp, benefits from its low weight of around 750Kg to become a rather quick and agile thing.
But we will let you be the judge...

    He took it to the Ring so best guess is it is setup for the Nordschleife. No use for short ratio there

    Might weigh more because of the engine. My 5 turbo was 706.5kg with a 1.4.

    Lluis Nieto This was the car’s first outing so yes the gearbox was pretty much stock. Since then we believe that changed 😉

    Hi mate , I have seen that you have side skirts fitted on the car now , is your berg cup kit supplied by NTS from Blackpool, looks exactly the same as mine except you have pull out you front wings . Would it be possible to know where you had your skirts made ? Cheers

    @@lewiscannon8213 it was one of the first fuel injected renault 5 turbo's. Built by bbtunning back in the day. It was in performance gti magazine.

    I’m sure his “unique” tattoos add extra weight, thereby slowing down his time. Could have been a little bit more aggressive in that first turn whence he hesitated to upshift as both hands were tightly gripping the steering wheel.

    @@denismulic5746 Well,that's not the case with me since i appreciate builds like this Golf.And in Croatia you have fastest racing version of car for which lots of people like to laugh at yet it's one of the quickest 1.6 cars on European hills.I'm talking about Yugo of Dejan Kopajtić.220 horsepower from 1.6 8v engine from Fiat Bravo on only 715 kilos of weight.Also,Edi Kuharić's Yugo is damn quick too with 1.6 engine from Alfa 147 with 220 horsepower on 700 kilos.Saw both cars in action plenty times so i know what i'm talking about.
