I'm a Halo, 40k, Doom and Mass effect fan, despite the simarlaties between the Adeptus Astartes and Spartan-IIs. The Spartans of Halo are still to this day one of my favourite Sci-fi supersoldeirs. Oh fun fact Vannek-134, Riz-028 and Kai-125 from the tv series are now officially Canon, they were the three other Spartans that was apart of Team Omega on Arcadia afterwards they split from Omega and was made into Silver Team. Vannek, Riz and Ksi are not listed as KIA or MIA in the game canon.

Great video, Spartan 2's are the perfect example of how military prototypes cost an insane amount of money initially. Then the industry and research catch up over a few years and by the fall of reach we could make 10-25 Spartans for the cost of one of the Spartan II's. Kinda like the SR-71 Blackbird. So advanced that just maintaining it was unfeasible, and they cut back and made more specified planes for cheaper

I seem to have missed them... which is annoying as i'm sure i counted from the 33 who survived the "upgrades" I must have gotten confused when I added the ONI team back in, the washouts who later "made" it. My bad, but nice catch!

Great video Red, so I know you mentioned reading the novels before so I was wondering cause of reading the Original series (The Fall of Reach, The Flood, First Strike & Ghosts of Onyx) I didn't really like the Fall of Reach game cause even though the novels are canon their also standalone and the story telling in the game fell short when compared to the novels so as a lore guy what you think of the of the differences in Fall of Reach in the novel and the game?

Loved the Fall of Reach Novel, it's the best of the four imo. The game was good but not amazing imo, by that point it was becoming clear Halo was more about selling Xbox than telling a story/making a great game. I liked bits of the game, but it's no where near Halo 1/2/3 in my estimations. I strongly disliked how they started to portay Halsey as well, and the fact she makes no comment on Spartan 3s appearing is ludicous.

@@TheRedKing Yeah seem they were making Halsey "Evil" just for the generic troupe reason rather than well thought out story telling. Just wondering if you got the orginal 2000's releases of the books or the re-prints that had retcon's from Tor books? I saw these were reissued in 2010 and checked my copies and they are from orginal batch.

100% agree, it massively bothers me that a military organisation isn't pragmatic about the Spartan program, rather than crying over the morales very illogical. I just checked I *think* mine was printed in 2005, it has 1841494208 ISBN, it doesn't have a specific print date on the inside of the cover just that it was first published in 05. I remember reading it on a specific family holiday that would have taken place in 05 or 06... so i'm partially guessing

The lore on the Spartan 2’s who remain is rather jumbled. It’s never clear just how many Spartan 2’s were deployed in Mjolnir. We only know 33 successfully passed augmentations. An unknown number were rehabilitated/resurrected after augmentations and then deployed in mjolnir. Of those, some were counted in your original 33 which goes to show just how confusing the lore on this subject is. I did notice that you never mentioned Cal-141 from Halo Legends in The Babysitter short story. She’s confirmed KIA. But, you did get Samual, Arthur, and Daisy from the other short story’s in Halo Legends. Also, you never mentioned Red Team from Halo Wars (also rehabilitated), but you’ve already seen someone else’s comment pointing that out. Overall, cool video though.

I did count it up at one point, I think as I included black team in my count they messed it up as they weren't part of the inital 33... you're right it is a bit messy! It's a shame Fall of Reach doesn't just list them on a backpage somewhere!!

Spartan black team shouldn't be counted among the 33 survivors, as like you said they were among the 42 washouts.

Rouge Servitors When?

It never ceases to amaze me how many IPs blatantly rip off 40K, whether it's Halo or Stellaris, or The Witcher, or something else if it involves genetically engineered soldiers it inevitable ends up uncannily close to _The creation of a Space Marine._ (a highly detailed and specific process in 40K lore).

Sorry, but I hate this take. I love 40k, but the idea that everyone 'steals' from it is laughable. Do you really think the first "genetically engineered super soldier" came from Warhammer? Was 40k the first to have an all powerful emperor, or wait, did Warhammer invent Orks and goblins?? Come on..... Warhammer is marvellous, but it's not this godfather of science fiction it's made out to be

That is how fiction is written, taking parts of things you know and adding your own experiences. Games workshop did the same with 40k.
