These tributes are always touching, but I would have concentrated on the video of those who passed away, not on the performers (who were excellent, by the way). This is kind of like a funeral. It's about those who passed... no one else in the room.

Let me write a few words about Norman Lloyd. He began his movie career with Alfred Hitchcock in 1942 with Saboteur and again in Spellbound in ‘45. Hitch hired him years later as a producer and director on his TV show. He had the memorable role of Dr Auschlander in the hospital drama St. Elsewhere from 1982-88. His last acting part was in the Amy Schumer comedy Trainwreck which came out after Mr Lloyd was 100. When he passed away this past May, Norman Lloyd was 106 years old.

I am disappointed that the dearly departed were not the focal point of this portion of the show. The way it was shot, you couldn’t see some of the people on the screen. Please remember in the future, your goal is to remember these individuals for the last time. They deserve center stage, not the performers.

Yes. It made it seem like some of the people being honored were not equal to the others being honored because they showed the musical performers instead of focusing on those who died. I did like the music. I just thought that it would have been better to show the musical performers before and after the pictures and video of those being remembered.

I agree w/you wholeheartedly. It's very disrespectful of the deceased when the camera shows the performers filling more of the frame than the deceased that the TV Academy is supposed to be memorializing. Plus, such pandering hypocrisy when the Emmys had the deceased Black actors fill the frame with their voiceovers while some of the 'giants' in TV who are White, such as Ed Asner & Cloris Leachman, are barely visible in the frame. Even so, Not One Black Actor won an Emmy last night. Such shallowness!

This was a beautiful 'In Memoriam'. I love how the applause was held until the end (it's always been cringe-worthy when someone gets a huge amount of applause and then the audience goes silent for the next person). The photos/graphics were beautifully done with the sets of shows people had worked on, etc. - really well done. They lingered on each person long enough for us to acknowledge each one. The spoken quotes were lovely. The music was perfect. The only thing I would have changed was to have the musical performers smaller on the screen. They forgot NORMAN LLOYD whose 92-year career as an actor, director and producer in all mediums including television (St. Elsewhere) lasted longer than most people’s lives. NORMAN LLOYD was a pioneer in television, with TV acting credits that PREDATE THE ACTUAL EMMY AWARD ITSELF! Within the first decade of television, Norman Lloyd was a prolific actor and producer, work he continued into his nineties. Norman Lloyd was a giant in the industry and it’s a big faux pas that ATAS overlooked him.
