@@shahendarashwan5958 constantly manipulating the hair into a certain position can rip hairs out, break hair strands and can force the hair out of it's natural shape (basically elongating the curl into a wave or wave to basically straight)

I have turned my curls into waves :( or maybe it’s because I’m getting older. But I was brushing my hair dry and wearing tight buns everyday 😢 I’m starting to follow your routines to try and revive them I hope my curls come back!
"Your hair is fancy enough" made me realize that I've historically assumed I need to straighten my hair for fancy/special events... Why is that?? I am not going to straighten my hair for the holiday party this week ➿💪
The one that shocked me the most was "cold water doesn't seal your cuticle." Makes me feel less guilty for NOT doing that all these years because I can't stand cold showers!

Listen, I just know you look beautiful with straight hair but it’s not the straight hair, it’s YOU! Your aura, your confidence, and the face your hair frames. I’m sure you would look beautiful with no hair but YOUR HAIR, the one naturally growing out of your scalp is you, remember that. You are stunning as you are❤️

Thank you for the no co wash thing. Been saying it since the deva curl crapstorm.
The first 7 minutes of this video felt like a very informative ROAST, yet 7 minutes in it suddenly turned into a motivational speech moment. Loved it Mell!
PREACH 🙌🏼 along with mold in the hair.. you can ruin your scalp health by sleeping with wet hair in a cap or towel overnight, repeatedly 😳
I wish Mel and this video was around when I was younger. I think it would've helped me embrace my textured hair sooner. And not listen to the bullies.
I love the darker hair on you. It looks beautifull.
“You are more than your hair.” 🥺 This is hard for me because my mood for the day depends on how my hair looks.

Dear Santa: All I want for Christmas is for all my curly-haired beauties to find this channel!!
Something I would love to see you do is your reaction to some of your older videos! See how much your routines have changed and how much you've learned and grown!
off topic but can we talk about why salons charge WAY more for a “curly cut” it feels like discrimination or something idk 😭 ??? like why are we charging people born with curly hair more?? i read an article (2019) that said approx 65 percent of the U.S. population has curly, coily or wavy hair so why isn’t everyone trained to cut this hair type?
@kimhill3614
Жыл бұрын
I am not a professional stylist, but I think this is an issue of supply vs. demand. A lot of stylists just don't know how to cut hair if it's not straight, or maybe they are cutting it using straight hair techniques. Now that more women are rocking texture and waves, perhaps this will change.
@brindageorge701

It does take more time and effort. Even to comb out and definitely to maintain. I know because I do my own and have cousins with minimally curly hair who can style it with much less effort. Curly hair breaks much easier as well and if very tightly coiled is even more brittle.
@truffles2021

I thought the same thing. I paid for a haircut by someone who knew how to cut curly hair and was charged like $165 for it. Just the cut! And he RUINED my curls because he went ham with the slice and cut crap. I understand supply and demand but for a service that requires a comb and scissors just like any other haircut it seems unfair. I cut my own hair now because I can’t afford to do that as frequently as my hair needs it. 🥲

Good f-ing question! They charge more caz they're greedy, and unfortunately caz. we let them get away with it! But, it's not like we have many choices either so, yeah, it sucks!

Maybe because it’s more difficult for some to do, and are charging for time
“You do not need long hair to be beautiful” I started tearing up 🤣 I went for a hair cut today, my hairdresser said half an inch no more. He took two inches off 😩 bare in mind I have curly hair too. It was needed and my hair actually feels thick on the ends, something I haven’t experienced for a long time
I would like to add that the minimum products you should have include a good clarifying shampoo (can be used as your every wash shampoo if you wash like once a week), a good hair mask (in place of a regular conditioner), a good leave on cream (leave on conditioner, curl cream, a cream-gel hybrid or a conditioner that can be used as a leave in like the curlsmith one) and an oil. You can make do and have good looking/feeling and healthy hair with few resources. You don't have to have a million products.

Girl!!! I thought I was the only one! I started realizing that if I use the clarifying shampoo, every time I washed, I could literally go up to 5 to 7 days without washing my hair. Whereas, if I just used a moisturizing shampoo, I would have to wash every 3 to 4 days. I started telling people that they looked at me like I killed a baby.

@@melikaaziminia9522 wait what’s the difference between a clarifying & moisturizing shampoo? Can’t a shampoo be moisturizing and clarifying at the same time? How do I know what ones to use?
@melikaaziminia9522
Жыл бұрын
@@emmabunch-benson4795 I mean, I suppose. But I always think of a moisturizing shampoo, like some thing with no sulfates and something that’s really really moisturizing like some thing from not your mothers, or shame moisture. For example, my clarifying shampoo is this pentene shampoo I got from Costco that’s extremely stripping. But I use that once a week and that’s all I use to wash my hair.
@quintecence
Жыл бұрын
@@emmabunch-benson4795 it's kinda like a hybrid of a conditioner and shampoo - it has conditioning properties and a gentle cleanser. A clarifying shampoo is a little more hardcore and has stronger surfactants to get rid of more dirt and oils without depositing any conditioning ingredients. I'm trying not to get too technical because I'm a chemist and I will go overboard otherwise 😂
Loved this video!! Very informative facts in just 10 minutes! My question is about the baby hairs. How do they not grow into adult hair ?
I loved the sunglass placement throughout 😂❤️
This should be mandatory for anyone with hair! So damn good! I love that you don't ever feel the need to not say something to sell something like a lot of hair content creators ✌️✨💜

My hair was always wavy, but since going through menopause and letting it go natural (no more dye) it’s gotten very curly. I really enjoy what I learn from your videos since having curls is a relatively new experience for me.
Mell could you please make a video about how to use silicone?
“Drinking more....water!” 😂
"you don't need straight hair to be beautiful" I wish someone would told me that when I was a teenager. I remember wasting all my money to get a Brazilian blowouts to stop my classmates make fun of me and I only got compliments when my hair was silky straight. And when the treatments were strating to wear off or my hair strating to grow I spend so much time straighting my roots and frizzy parts with a flat iron. After two big chops and three years of transitioning to my natural hair, I feel that I love my hair more than ever

Conditioning products! Conditioners, leave-ins, creams. They're what smooth and fill in the gaps in your cuticles and gives us what we percieve to be "moisturised" hair. Obviously, they need a certain amount to water to work properly, but it's not the water itself that moisturises our hair.

@@natalies4751 Yup conditioning products trap the water that's on the hair from evaporating as quickly. If she would have said water alone that would have been better but I agree with everything else she said.

Your hair doesn’t have to be long to be beautiful was something I struggled with for a while. I kept wanting long hair even though the thickness and density caused migraines and headaches when it got long, I hated taking care of it and I would every year or two get it cut to my shoulders. Finally made the decision to get it cut to chin length with some layers almost two years ago now and it hasn’t gotten longer than my shoulders if I can afford to get it cut since.
I love your videos. I would love to see a video for women in their 40’s and have grey hair. My curl pattern is different for my grey hair vs my non-grey hair.

Wow. I've never wanted to have a video become a class. I wish you had some way of numbering and labeling these tips so we can watch the full video. Thank you for this.
And speaking of hair care, I got two questions that I’d really love for you to answer: 1)Do I have to use a conditioner after deep conditioning my hair? 2)Can I leave some of the deep conditioning in my hair or do I have to rinse it all out? Thank you, Mell, you’re awesome!
@kaelynelizabeth8010

Soo I’m not a specialist but I do have 2c hair and here’s my tips: 1. No, you do not, and should not use a regular conditioner immediately after you deep condition. Deep conditioning replaces the regular conditioner and offers deeper, more intense moisture 2. Some curlies do leave some conditioner in their hair instead of using a leave in conditioner. I’m not entirely sure if this is recommended or not but I have heard of people doing that
@rscheetz08

DC replaces conditioner. Rinse out the conditioner. Mell mentions this is another video, that regular conditioners are not made the same as leave-ins and should be rinsed out. Per Mel - follow the instructions on the labels of products
This was another amazing journey! I'm new to the curl world... my whole life I thought my hair was just frizzy and heard about plopping on a game show and thought that would be a faster way of drying. Had NO CLUE I had curly hair. Needless to say, I had a head full of curls after plopping and have spent the last couple of months trying to figure out what to do with this mop. I LOVE your channel and have been watching all of your videos. I think the thing I struggle with most is finding a balance between products. I put too little in and I get frizz galore in just a day or two. So I followed one of your videos and finally got the volume I was looking for since my hair is normally limp curls. But now I'm dealing with icky feeling hair. I think from too much product. Ugh The struggle is REAL. :)

The end left me feeling better. After losing my tight Arby curly fry ringlets because of the hormones from having kids, I got my hair permed 3 years in a row. It's never looked the same, felt the same, or could be styled the same. I've decided to grow it out and come to grips with my looser curls.

I love you and yes, one of these things was hard for me to hear. Since I started doing a final rinse with cold water and letting me hair air dry or defuse with low heat setting, my hair has no more frizz (only using the LUS all in one leave in conditioner). If I rinse with warm or hot water, I’m going to have frizz. I’m sticking with the cold final rinse and will always continue to watch and support you.
