7029 Clun Castle hauls the Cotswold Explorer 6 Apr 2019 - a 4K video
This video features No. 7029 Clun Castle.
I started the day at the Jewellery Quarter in Birmingham and finished at Rowley Regis.
This was the first long distance tour for Clun Castle and had the legendary Ray Churchill at the controls so at least there was not going to be any diesel assistance. I have included some of the other trains that can be found on these ex GWR main lines and I hope you enjoy.

Great shot at the end with the way the firebox was lighting up the smoke, thanks for that.
I like how you continued shooting as the train disappeared in the distance. many don't do this. Being from Oz, I have only travelled on one steam rail tour in the UK but this 'Castle' looks a beautiful loco to travel behind.
Wonderfully atmospheric last shot - almost in silhouette - as 7029 crests that heavy grade!!!!
Very nice ! 👍🏻

@@GreatBritishRailways1 I'm not surprised at the number :)
Well done! The last shot at Rowley Regis was quite atmospheric. I know shooting at 4K can be quite challenging, but maybe some permanent way people don’t like the long telephoto shots. I guess some of it looks worse than it really is, maintenance wise.
Stunning work John, how wonderful to see the old girl back in action....great choice of locations as well...Regards...Bob
Great video and channel !
A superb video John with excellent night time shots of 'Clun Castle' at the end of the footage. Regards - Allan.

allan5919 this engine hauled the very last train out of Birmingham moor Street in 1987 before snow hill station was reopened Allan and this year is the first time ever for clun to travel down the snow hill extension to Stourbridge junction
beautiful..... well done for staying with the shot as the train went away at the end.... many wouldn't have done that....
Espectacular video amigo 👍 saludos desde argentina 👋

Walter elcanalla you probably don’t know anything about the railways in the Midlands Walter
Superb video John and a nice variety on show. Clun Castle looking and sounding great. Regards, Jeff.
Brilliant captures, thanks John. A wonderful atmosphere at Rowley Regis and your closing shot was far better than many a firework display... if it doesn't qualify for the term pyrotechnics then it certainly ought to! Kind regards, Bob.
Cracking sights and sounds John , the night shot worked very well .
Very good footage, John. Interesting station views, too. I'd never heard of those two stations!
Absolutely wonderful.
Brilliant video John. Nice to see 7029 Clun Castle going, especially seen some Diesels as well. Thanks for sharing this John. Cheers ... Josh

Wow John you had a big crowd with you at Rowley, and you filmed a good build up to Clun Castle for your first shot. Regards Mike.

An interesting selection of trains there John, and good to see some non steam loco hauled (or pushed!) stuff, but only one star among them! Particularly liked the atmospheric night shots at Rowley Regis. Cheers, Rob
Fine set of shots John with some very nice long zoom shots of the 68's. The going away shot at Rowley Regis is really atmospheric with the exhaust being lit by the firebox glow

this is the first time for clun castle to travel down the snow hill extension through Kidderminster to Worcester via Stourbridge junction too austin
Lovely footage John. Great sound of Clun working. The photographer crouching down on your first shot was Robin Coombes who joined us at Frampton Mansell! Geraint
Very nice John.... Spotted you at JQ but not Rowley Regis as Ray was relaxing with us in first class on the return as he only did the outbound to Oxford (due to hours).... Liam, Phil & Keith Turner & friends were also on board and a good time was had by all.... Regards, Brian.

Yes John, seems we took a day off and left you to it lol. Well the DB driver did a good job all the way back and Ray didn't have a shove up Sapperton so 7029 earned her stripes!! I did take my camera especially so you can see the 'high life'.... quite soon!! Regards, Brian.
Very nice video John, thumbs up :)
I was at Blakedown station John when it came thundering it’s way through
Nice footage. Mine will be uploaded later today

Hi John, Thanks for reply ,Great filming ..Dave...@@GreatBritishRailways1
Interesting shots of the various types of rail conveyances at the beginning. All these shots show quite slow trains, is there a speed restriction of some sort?
It’s also the first time for clun castle to travel down the snow hill extension to Stourbridge junction via Kidderminster and Worcester shrub hill either John

John Edkins You did a great job, doesn’t matter where you film. We had a brilliant time. Thanks.
How strange, everything seems to be in slowmo, were there speed restrictions in place? Love the last scene, brings back memories that does.

Well, I don't know what the line speed is through there, but it's just outside Birmingham Snow Hill, so they wouldn't be going very fast
Hi John, really excellent video especially the last clip. What camera do you use for your video? Cheers Pete

Excellent video !!! Great Job !!! Sub on !!!
Steam trained are magical at night although the lighting in the 50/60,s was dimmer making it even more exciting
