This is fantastic - thanks so much to the crew that permitted the video to be taken at speed on the mainline; Like many, I'm never likely to experience it first hand, but this gives a wonderful insight into what it is like. Thanks for risking the camera in such extreme conditions too.

I remember as a child seeing 70013 at Bressingham. It's fantastic to see her unleased where she belongs on the mainline out of London, particularly from the footplate.

@pauluksteam Thank you Paul, it's a privilege to occasionally get the chance to ride on the footplate and I am pleased to share it. Cheap digital cameras make it a less expensive hobby, although my other videos of the run out of King's Cross were done with some specialist kit and a lipstick camera mounted on the running plate!

Fantastic video - some of the best shots of the footplate I've ever seen. If you put that it is about a footplate ride in the title I think that you would get lots more views - as your video is worth at least 10K hits! Brings back memories of good footplate rides I had when I lived in India. (Good job that I spoke Hindi!). If you have any more footage would be great if you posted it. *****

Best advice I can give is not to try and hold the camera 'still', but to accept you and the train are moving and soften it as best you can. Break your knees, and stay away from hard surfaces with the camera! Most of the footplate footage I do is with a little digital compact camera, usually held with one hand...

Not in the slightest. I've not written a camera off so far, although Cromwell's tender locker door did sever a microphone lead on the last job I filmed with the bullet camera. I used to be a motorsports photographer - this is much less likely to get me killed, but a bit rougher on the kit, admittedly!

Just out of interest, what are those coloured lights in front of the driver's position? Looks like a modern addition to run on the main line.
