Perth Airport is Australia's 4th busiest airport but in my opinion, Australia's most interesting airport to plane spot at. Whilst Sydney and Melbourne collectively get about 2/3s of Australia's international traffic and heavies, Perth gets some exclusive and interesting traffic used primarily for the mining charter, or FIFO flights around the state of WA. Fokker aircraft and smaller dash-8s seem to be the aircraft of choice for the landing strips near the mining sites, meaning you'll see things like Skippers Aviation, Virgin Australia Regional, Alliance Airlines and even Qantas operating these aircraft exclusively in WA. You'll also see A320s in Qantas and Virgin colours which rarely visit the other side of the country, Qantas especially.
This video focuses on mostly runway 03 operations. Runway 03 is definitely a videographers friend, providing a great view of landings & takeoffs from the viewing area. In this video you'll see some mostly recent things filmed on my last visit to Perth, and also a few gems from past trips like the Qantas 747, Etihad A330, that are no longer flying!
