I throw my speed square around a lot … like a lot… I purposely try to not use anything else actually. I’ve seen 1000 videos on the best uses for a speed square and I’ve never seen that one.

I also use it to find the pitch of an existing rafter (put a torpedo on it), also use it to check plane (sheeting to fascia for example), also use it for rip cuts and as a feeler-gauge (it's exactly 1/8")

The mistake he made was flushing up the boards AFTER transferring the line. He should have flushed them up BEFORE transferring the line in order to get the two boards marked in the exact same place.
