7 Ways Army Soldiers Train For Combat After Basic Training | Boot Camp | Insider Business

After 10 weeks of basic training, Army soldiers begin preparing for specific types of combat operations. Some soldiers choose to join the Armor school where they join the ranks of tankers and cavalry scouts. One of the most popular courses is the Airborne School, where soldiers learn how to safely jump out of airplanes and into combat zones. In Air Assault school, soldiers learn how to utilize helicopters to insert themselves and equipment into combat in a course that's known as the Army's "ten toughest days."
Back on the ground, future snipers endure the grueling 7-week course that turns Army soldiers into lethal weapons. As the US military's focus moves from the Middle East to the Asia-Pacific region, soldiers train to fight in jungle environments as tension with China builds. Army soldiers require a lot of calories to do their dangerous jobs. That's why culinary specialists train to feed hundreds of hungry soldiers in combat zones. Injuries in combat are inevitable, which is why soldiers train to become combat medics to learn to wounds and potentially save lives.
EDITOR'S NOTE
The segments about Army tankers, cavalry scouts, snipers, and paratroopers were filmed at the Fort Benning Army installation prior to the installation being officially renamed "Fort Moore."

Is it just me, or is Business Insider doing more to inform potential recruits of the training they can receive than the actual Army?

I was at meps recently and at least a third of us had seen the videos. It’s much better marketing for potential recruits than most of the videos officially put out by the various branches. The submarine school video that they did convinced one of the guys who swore in with me to choose a job on a sub versus the surface ships.

As a former Infantry Marine (0352). I was always glad to see the messman show up with chow after being out in the field for days and weeks. People always glorify the Infantry and Armor, etc. But without the messman, we wouldn't go far. People forget that the military marches on it's stomach.

We dont need soldiers who are government lap dogs full stop. It benefits nobody. Costs lives, money, materials and our liberty because we cant be trusted with truth anymore incase we share it with foreign powers!?!?!? WE WOULD ALL HAPPILY COOPERATE IF GOVERNMENTS WERENT INVOLVED. Simply put,The humans only enemy is other human. Now we arent naturally enemy and would never dream of invading anothers land or killing them so best thing every soldier can do is QUIT all of them cos once they get replaced by Ai Bots it will be too late the system will have us all forever if we dont start cooperating towards human evolution and freedom rather than continuing with this current model of enslavement brainwashing and obedience conditioning and the education and recruitment processes aim to remove free will! Wisdom is key.

Old US Heavy CAV M60A3 TC here and gone are the good old days of the loader trying to kick and keep rebounding shell casings in a uncooled turret in the heat, with the cordite fumes burning your eyes. It is a good thing and we truly need to WAKE UP and make sure these men and women are TRULY getting the EQUIPMENT they need, and NOT what the Military Industrial Complex lobbies to build. For them, it is about revenue. To me, it is all about the lives of our sons and daughters who follow in the footsteps we once tread. It is still my watch until I die.

71 now at age 15 I joined the 8th Canadian Hussars Militia (crewman Recce), light armoured. We trained regularly at Base Gagetown where I fired the collapsible rocket launcher in the cardboard throw away tube with the pop up sites. Also fired a Carl Gustav in practice. Threw grenades over a concrete wall. Even engaged in war games with the 'regular forces' for entire weekends. Drove APC's tanks jeep and 3/4 ton pickups for radio ops.

I was supposed to watch them graduate from Airborne School, but I got restricted to Fort Rucker, Alabama. for drinking underage. I also went to Iraq in 2008-2009 with a medic that grew-up with Pat; his name was Alexander. I ended my time in service in 2012. Small world! God Bless you! -SPC Mediano

Watched a show similar to this many years ago....Mountain Marines i believe it was called. Much like this show, students trained (endured) a week in the high mountains of Washington State. I think there were 12 in number. They successfully completed their training and were in the truck on the way back to the base for some much anticipated hot normal food. Suddenly, the trucks stop. The instructor opens the back and said, "your plane has crashed. You have three warm sleeping bags, a couple rucksacks, and only the food you have now. One of you is blind and one of you has a broken leg and must be carried. You have six days to find the extraction point. Locals are hostile but have maps showing your extraction point. Figure it out" Or words to this effect anyways. A few days later, the observers see the patrol and broken leg man is walking. He confronted the team. "He has to be carried! If I could shoot him in the leg myself, I'd do it! Do your job and carry him like a soldier should!" There were leadership issues within the patrol and negotiation issues with the people who had the maps. But, the patrol worked through them and 14 days since starting out, they got their normal hot food back at base.....7 days later than they expected. I would have liked to seen something similar here. Don't know the particulars of THIS show, but I think they all knew it would end at a designated time.

This is just a channel where they go in and observe the actual training on soldiers entering the military and interview people.. Nothing about this is really entertainment focused or a production put on by a TV producer. It's basically just intended for you to get a good look at what training for your troops looks like and to give us a better understanding of why they do things the way they do.. I wish I was able to watch the show you're talking about though! That sounds cool.

Not sure if there is such a thing but it would be nice if you had stickers or something to represent bullet holes or entry points that can stick to skin and clothing . Then the 1st responders can act accordingly without someone having to speak the scenario e.g. "You have soldier with blah blah blah" they will see bullet wound stickers and whatever other possible things a sticker or Velcro patch could mimic depending on the injury.

I´m pretty sure that finnish forces have been trainin and got solid soldiers. Everyone from laundry guy to that 18 year old jaeger/jääkäri know the basics and everyone have to go thru that in some point, but what im trying to say,is we have 1300km border with them. U know the answer after the world war why we started stacking everything so we would be ready if they try something. . It was a shock to meny finnish soldiers at ukraine how they had no clue how to work together, give "smaller" leaders power to improvise at the spot etc. But ofc have to remember they was stuck to soviet military system and the russian mentality... But i think they have been shaking these bigger leaders that this is how it works. Ofc that was a just a guess... sorry about the english and i didnt wrote this to any hostile way. Just little fixing of facts :)

OK,one quick question for anyone who attended Air Assault school...the mentioned list of items is handed out to students before arrival,is that correct? It's no secret item list but students still fail to bring the stuff along?

There is no items that are handed to you. You will need to either already have items from your cif issue or personal buy the required items and the specific items that are on the air assault packing list

You get a packing list from your unit. You will have to get everything ready prior to going. If your unit is smart, they will make mock inspection prior just to verify you have everything. For example, when list mentions your canteens filled to the brim, during Air Assault inspection on day zero, when the instructor opens your canteens to see if they are filled, if it’s missing a millimeter of water, you failed inspection!! Do NOT forget anything!!!! Zero tolerance, you will be kicked out!!! Everyone will be in formation spaced out, the main instructor will call out an item, and give you 10 seconds to have it ready. Then the other instructors, there are plenty, will go to each individual soldier and verify it’s correct, and not damaged. They will check with a ruler if necessary.

43:20 Why was she scared of answering "Yes" about the Anti-tank question? Would she be disciplined? Because obviously that is what she was thinking. The chance of survival if anything were to pierce the armor is none. (I would guess she interpreted the question as critic of the Abrams being vulnerable and answer no for potential disciplinary or personal reasons)

After she says no, they cut to them talking about how dangerous the mechanisms inside the tank are. American tanks are actually really strong, but inside you're by loading mechanisms and big guns going off and kicking back inside of the tank. She's probably scared of the tank being immobilized and having to get out more than something piercing the armor. The tracks are vulnerable to the rockets a lot less than the armor for the people in the tank.

It could be anything. It's a really small confined space so it might induce claustrophobia and she might be embarrassed to say it. Or if the turret jams or the tank loses power she's probably trapped in there since it has to be at a certain position for her to exit.

@@wraithfvcker Yeah, even if anti-tank weapons was her fear, it would not be too rational, I guess. The fear is probably be more the nature of role a tank plays in combat, like, being the front of an attacking force and consequently being an ordnance sponge because of it.

3:04:25 - someone from the US Army PLEASE tell me: is this guy special forces (a green beret) based on the patch he’s wearing and if so, why would he be attending what appears to be a fairly easy/simple course? Wouldn’t he already have these skills? Also, why doesn’t he have the special forces tab over the airborne tab?
