Thanks again for your great information. You have confirmed again much of what l have learned over the years. Most important for me was the brown rice. The only time it did not spike my blood sugar was when I had it with Chinese food! I have learned to pair my lean protein with vegetables and choose berries and cherries for dessert, sometimes adding yogurt. And I love my green bananas! I also, as I aged, decided to follow my 98 yr old Aunt's advice to eat less. I only eat 2 meals a day at 76. If I'm hungry I will have some nuts.

I'm with you on this ! Any rice will spike me 175 pts. !! And I love rice ! * wails dramatically * lol. But it's sneaky. When testing foods I use Dennis' method ( Beat Diabetes channel ) and check 3 times; 30 min.; 1 hour; 2 hours. It takes 2 hours to max out in my body. The 30 min. test made me hopeful; only a 35 pt. rise. At 2 hours though, 175 points.

I wish whole grains didn’t spike blood sugar, but many have reported they do just that. Perhaps there are individual differences? I agree glucose spikes from coffee are temporary and overall coffee is highly beneficial for its anti inflammatory properties. I know from personal experience it deals effectively with gout, either as a treatment for flares or as a prophylactic. I enjoy your quality videos Dr. Ergin! Engaging presentations.

Not only does it help me keep my A1C in the normal range, I also have no negative side effects. No way to know for sure if it's the metformin , but I will soon be 80 years old, 5 years older than the second oldest lived person in my immediate family. There is a fiber in oats called beta-glucan which can help to reduce insulin resistance for some people. And if it does that for you, that's terrific! Over here in Germany, my diabetologist told me to do a 3-day oatmeal regimen, eating nothing but oatmeal 3 times a day with either a teeny bit of berries or broccoli mixed in. Unfortunately, it did not help me, but it did make me loathe oatmeal and just eating in general. Am now doing intermittent fasting, have lost 45 lbs, and my A1C is down to 6.0. Everyone's different, I guess, and what works for one person may not work for someone else.

Even better than Steel Cut oats is OATBRAN. Lower carbs and much healthier. If you need sweet try fermented sugar - supposedly it binds to sugar molecules in blood and can actually lower sugar. I use it in my coffee and sugar was lower after I drank the coffee with it. However I'm not diabetic or even prediabetic, but one of my teens has slightly elevated sugar so we are working on it and I have been testing myself as a control comparison. Great channel ! It seems that my system treats beans like carbs. I keep reading they are excellent sources of fiber, protein and minerals. But, I keep having bad reactions to them. My research shows that beans are mostly carbs. Should they be avoided? Part of the problem is that eating them alone is fiber overload so they have to be consumed with white rice or pasta. Are beans a food that I should be avoiding to better control blood sugar spikes?

What’s your take on bogus idea that losing weight is solely Calories in and out? Fitness channels still don’t understand that weight loss is tied to insulin and not calories. Sugar has and will always be the reason for a normal person being overweight. Insulin is the cause of metabolic syndrome. Thanks in advance Doctor Ahmad.

Better than with added sugar, but the no added sugar will still raise your blood sugar, just not as much.......

It's refined sugar that is not good for you. You eat out of the garden you won't have high blood pressure or a high A1C sorry. Fried rice is still best for you just got the vitamins and stuff in it.

I remember our grandmothers would do that. As a kid in the 70's we would have that carafe and use the Italian dressing packet and make it lol

@@chrissyellem7397 I do too, but it was in the 80's. It was my husband's job at dinner, every night, to make the dressing for the dinner salad. So my first comment still holds, lol! It seems so silly to hold onto gender roles these days.
