If possible, start with compendium teams. Much less complex. And, as you said, stick with the basics. Leave out Tach Ops, all Ploys, and Equipment. Two new players? Work together to learn the rules. Don’t worry about winning. Experienced player vs Noobe? Even more so. When I was starting my son out on the game, I just took Pox Walkers and made it a National Guard vs the Walking Dead game.

According point 3: I played against myself with Death Guard vs. Necrons. Both Fractions dont have much additional rules and i learned a lot from one Single game.

Great Vid :) I'm a Complete noob and your vids are awesome, thanks! Painted 3 kill teams now and the Gallow dark & all bits that come with the box. Playing my first game this Thursday :) I just wanted to say the tools and shapes I find awesome being dyslexic with spelling and maths my Achilles heel, (my reading is spot on!?) these shapes will defo help me in games :)

That's awesome, my boy was out right off last year. Going in and out of the rulebook made it clunky and broke the immersion. I think once you know the rules, it's much more fun to play with the kids.

Buy wooden ruler for a quarter then draw the colored symbols at the corresponding length.

Intercession squad is a great team to learn the game. Only a leader with w other specialists and the specialists aren't fiddly--theyre just an extra weapon/equipment. But they have a lot of depth due to the roster rules, equipment and ploys/tacops so they aren't boring even if you know the rules.

I haven't come across any. The new way to play 'swarm mode' looks like it has potential, though. I've actually ordered the annual today so will update on the channel when it arrives and talk about possible solo play with the rules.

The fiance and I got the Into the Dark Box and I might have grabbed the Annual and Gellerpox Infected. Add to that the Octarius and Nachmund boxes I think I'm going to have a lot of Kill Team fun.

I have another question: the intercessors already have the ability Bolter discipline (or shock assault if assault intercessors).Will the two abilities i choose from the disciplines add to this or negate it?

The two abilities you choose are for the whole Kill Team so they are a bonus and do not negate the individual operative abilities like Bolter Discipline.

I love to build the miniatures and painting them but i totally suck at the game its so frustrating. Every time i think ive learned enough to at least score one win, i find myself losing again 😂 i guess its just not my game

Have you tried Warcry? That’s a fun game. It’s not as rules heavy as Kill Team and you can use most Age of Sigmar minis in it. We are working on some new games at the moment. Just released Population Z and next will be our fantasy skirmish game then a sci-fi game. I wrote the sci-fi game because I was also getting frustrated with Kill Team! That will be a while yet, though, looking at January 2025.

Stripping out complexity gets us closer to WarCry for 40k.

The shapes started to bug me a lot. When I gave in and stopped converting to inches, it made a big difference. I was being stubborn I think 🤣

Personally I don't recommend the Compendium to people, outside of maybe looking at the rules from it on wahapedia if they have any minis they already own from 40k and just want to dip their toe. It is just a bad investment for the price since it is clearly designed to be a stop-gap meant to be replaced by real teams some day, and it gives a poor/misleading expectations to team construction and operative variety/abilities for the game. Instead I just keep a set of Ork Commandos on me (even though they are not my favorite personally) since they are so simple to play, as well as my Chaos Legionarries team since they don't have a lot to keep track of. Their faction rules are simple, and they have enough variety to expand on and set expectations about the game, and for the first experience I just keep command points, equipment, and tac Ops out of it. I am considering making a Team of Black Templar Intercessors or a box of Custodes since I like both and they would be even simpler for people they really have no experience doing any war/skirmish gaming. Starting people off in an Into the Dark terrain setup is definitely something I will do to help acclimate I experienced people too going forward.

The Intercessors are great fun to play. I like having a mix of the different bolt rifles and an assault intercessor for some up close punishment.

If you have multiple armies like myself or just want to dip your toe into an army that you would not normally check out I would still recommending getting the compendium.

Hi I want to buy a gift for my son's friend.. me and my son are just getting into Kill Team. So I don't know much! And there is so much to learn! Very confusing e.g kill team 1.0 and killed team 2.... How many versions are there, Are they compatible options... :| I know 40k and Kill Team are similar. The kill team starter set is to expensive at £60. ( I already own it) The 40k recruit edition is an amazing price for it's contents!! £30!! Could the units in the recruit edition easily be used as kill teams? Are the unit data cards it comes with applicable for kill team? Would I need to purchase a specific kill team codex for the units? I can lend him our core rule book. Or would I be better off buying a boxed kill team, such as Kill Team Tau Empire Pathfinders Does a box of kill team units come with data cards/sheet for the units within. Or... I personally wanted into the dark but that is out of stock everywhere. And the ones available are silly money. ... I could buy a bigger set and split it.. giving him an unmade army and rules/data cards. ... A smaller starter set would lower the cost... One that someone has already split. ... On ebay Could you do me a bundle of a kill team, data cards, dice and rule book. The models need to be unmade but I'm happy for the rest to be used. Thanks

It's you can choose two abilities from anywhere. The sections take effect with one of the tac ops.

It took me a year to get past the shapes and I'm glad I did. But this ruleset is way too wordy. The recent free quick start KT lite rules and the free Intercession Squad rules were a step in the right direction. Have you seen those?
