The next time you’re here, try and find someone with a Costco membership. Costco does carry Crest white strips (sometimes they’re on sale!) and some of your other items. Costco has their own in-store brand called Kirkland which is very high quality at a much lower price. Sam’s Club is another membership store over here that probably has similar items as well.

If you look at labels, a lot of the generic versions have all of the same active ingredients of the name brand items. Still I like to go with the house brands for large chain stores rather than the generic brands in dollar stores and independent shops. The chains have a reputation and large buying power so I think they make sure their generics are good. If you don't want to waste time comparing labels during your vacation, those chain stores usually have a product page with the active ingredients listed and even reviews so you can shop before you get here or even use a grocery delivery service to do all the shopping for you and deliver it to your hotel or wherever you are staying. One thing, I think Sudafed is the best "over the counter" decongestant but to get products that contain pseudo-ephedrine you have to present ID at a pharmacy so you probably have to go to the store to get that and a few other OTC drugs that require ID. Also generic pseudo-ephedrine seems to work just as well as name brand although the pills usually aren't coated and taste a bit nasty going down.

Crest Whitening Pens are really nice to have too. You just "paint" your teeth with the brush in the "pen" before you go to bed and brush it off in the morning. Super quick, no sitting around with the strips on your teeth for an hour. Smaller too, you only have to use them for 1 week to have white teeth for months.

1990's Nyquil was even stronger. Due to Breaking Bad-sequel uses of Ephedrine HCl (Sudafed) it's now regulated OTC in the US, so the decongestant part was replaced by one that doesn't work better than placebo. BTW, Nyquil/Dayquil is basically a cocktail of multiple active ingredients plus some alcohol. For instance, the trade name of the analgesic part (acetaminophen) is Tylenol. This means you sometimes need to be careful you don't overmedicate since you may doubling up your dosage if you take it along with something like Tylenol or whatnot.

DayQuil/NyQuil: contains a pain reliever, and usually some combination of decongestant, cough suppressant, and/or mucus thinning drug. The nighttime ones have an antihistamine that makes you really sleepy and can help dry up a runny nose. Basically they help treat symptoms until your cold has run its course. They don’t actually cure them, but they do make things a little easier.

Melatonin typically is effective in small doses - like 1 to 3 mg for most people. Overly large doses (10 mg and up) can actually keep you awake.

I take 5 mg about an hour before I go to sleep, and it works pretty good. When I first started taking it, I was only taking 400 micrograms, but that wasn't enough. 1-3 would be a good dose to start with.

Thank you. You want like 3 mg max. The only reason that I chime in, is because I started using it when i was young to learn how to lucid-dream. Read about it in a Dr. office then went at it. If you are healthy, you should generate a normal level of melatonin daily. Once I achieved lucidity and had control, it wasn't about sleeping. Math and discipline. You can achieve amazing things in slumber.

Came here to say that. Smaller doses actually seem to work better for me. I actually get the kid's gummies that are .5mg/gummy (package says 1mg with 2 gummies being the normal dose), and it works great. That larger doeses only seem to make me wake up in the middle of the night.

It's so interesting the different perspectives on government regulations. It seems like in Europe a lot of people appreciate the fewer rules in America, but here a lot of people think it should be more restrictive. I love the health consciousness of Europe, but I love our freedom of choice in America. I just have to do a lot of research to find the healthy and non-toxic options here.

If you enjoy NyQuil you should check out a few bits by Lewis Black and Denis Leary. Some good old standup. Oh, for things that you're scared of spilling, just buy a box of the gallon or larger ziploc bags. Worst case, if the bottle breaks, it'll be contained to the bag. Problem solved. Creamer away.

For things like the cereal, and other large, lightweight items, have you ever considered mailing them to yourself? The US post office has boxes that could probably hold 4-8 boxes of cereal. Parcel post (or 3rd class) rates are relatively inexpensive. Now, you may have to pay a customs fee, but it shouldn't be too much. You might look at packages sent from the US to you that had various food items and see if the customs charges are probative.

Thank you so much for this! I am leaving in a couple of days to stay in Ireland, because my husband is from there. But not sure for not sure how long yet because he doesn't know if he wants to stay there. But as soon as you said to get melatonin, I got nervous because I take it every night. I'm going to have to go get some extra before I leave. Also I grabbed the bottle of Nyquil, that I had given my daughter, off the medicine shelf and decided I'd take it with me. Geesh, I had forgotten how many things I can't get there. And paracetamol is the equivalent to Tylenol. I personally like paracetamol better because I feel like it's a bit stronger there. I had taken some Lemsip with it in it one time and boy was that stuff strong. It knocked me out all night. I really appreciate all of the information! 😊

Acetaminophen is the active ingredient in paracetamol. It's also included in nyquil and dayquil in the U.S., but in high enough doses it can cause liver failure. My understanding was that it became a common way of committing suicide in Ireland, and as as result they restricted the sale of acetaminophen-based products.

LOL! Lucky Charms has been around since I was a kid and I am 62 now. It makes sense because there has been a strong Irish genetic population and ethnicity here since right before the U.S. Civil War. Americans probably believe more in Leprechauns than the Irish do. But having never been to Ireland I'm not sure. Certainly we celebrate Saint Paddy''s day while Ireland doesn't.
