My dad has 0 style, he is a practical man. He looks terrible in a suit but he will keep warm in a snowstorm. I just finished school and in the last 2 years I've been trying to dress my best and have taught myself through youtube :)

In the past people paid less attention tofashion and more to style, so they spent more on classic well-made fitting items that lasted. Today we do the opposite. Shell out more for temporary shit. All people dressed better and ate less crap.

Dad used to have style but dude was useless in teaching anything about it. Like he didn't bother to teach me... "never had the time" or "do it yourself".
As a woman, I have never understood why more men don't realize that their appearance matters. First impressions (and even second and third impressions) leave a lasting impact and influence our thoughts on your intelligence, self confidence, and your charisma. Thanks Antonio for giving men the finer points of looking their best.

I'm not saying people need to become fashion mavens. It doesn't take hundreds (or even tens) of dollars to buy clothes than fit properly, are without holes, etc. You can get a decent tie at Goodwill for two bucks. In fact, I work PART-TIME for minimum wage and am still able to pull it off. If all these people are too busy to watch KZread videos, maybe they should pour some of that energy into taking a glance in a mirror once in a while.

True, however, the point of this video is that people judge you on your appearance. It doesn't matter if it's fair or not. It happens. Youre more apt to get a job, a date or a promotion if you're perceived as more attractive of well put-together. Life's not fair, so increase your chances by investing a few bucks in some nice shoes.

@@MayTheSchwartzBeWithYou attitude is a person's PREDISPOSITION before acting upon a certain stimuli or event in his or her environment. To assess attitude you requiere to sample a person's behavior over several instances. You are labeling her, and her attitude, on JUST ONE comment. Making ripples on a glass of water, don't you think?
At my school, we had a fashion show to raise money for our school prom. And while I was in the audience, I noticed that literally no man was wearing a suit "correctly." There were guys who had buttoned two buttons, had puddled pants, and/or had their jackets too long or short. It hurt me on a spiritual level.
Rule 2. Never Match Your Tie and Pocket Square -- You CAN buy a tie and a pocket square as a set, just NEVER wear them together. Instead of doing so: mix both with other pieces you own already. Sometimes such sets are on sale because many men don't want pocket squares and so the sets stay on the store's shelves. You might get a tie that is sold in a set even cheaper than a tie that is sold as a single item. Sometimes a good oportunity to save money.

Wolf0067 That’s how I got my second lapel pin and 3rd or 4th pocket square. Rly cheap for all 3 (tie included). Granted, I don’t wear them anymore, but if you’re just starting out H&M or Nordstrom’s clearance is a great way to learn how to wear them properly before you start buying the good stuff.

I’m sorry but I find myself (surprisingly) to be a detractor to this. IMHO To me it takes more effort to buy and keep an exact matching. Maybe it’s my personality but I think it looks much sharper, akin to a military dress uniform (Antonio here would be familiar as a former US Marine). I would match the pocket square to either the tie (night wear social call) or the dress shirt (business day wear) I welcome any counterpoint to this BTW Edit. I think ‘forcing creativity’ is a waste of time and effort and especially money, and can actually show that you just threw together a similar looking but not precise look, as if you were in a rush.

Let's be honest, a lot of the time when you have to go to a funeral you don't have any emotional connection to the deceased and you go due to other connections. I've been to the funerals of the parents and grandparents of my friends, just to show them support. Granted, it's not necessarily a nice situation, but I and the others in my position weren't exactly torn up about it.

Antonio,Your videos are fantastic and I have learned so much from watching various clips of yours- mainly suits/retail items based. As a salesman myself, when it comes to colour, fabric, style etc and I'm dealing with customers who struggle with matching anything or curious about investing in a wider range of colour, some of my advice given to them has come from your videos. Keep it up and thank you very much.Based on this video of yours about rules, I have one that you haven't spoken about and I do think it will benefit people who don't or who rarely wear a three-piece suit: "Leave the bottom button of the waistcoat undone at all times." Well done and keep uploading!All the best,Cam
Another smart rule is watching your videos ;)

I Appreciate this video. I always wondered about why the pocket square and tie should not match and as you spoke, I totally agreed. Makes sense.
Love watching the videos when I prepare for the week on what to wear...thanks for always having me plan before I step out so I look my best all the time!!!👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Thanks for another great video! I always remember what one bespoke shoemaker told about the importance of high quality shoes - it holds all of your weight for most of a day, so it must be comfortable. It adds weight to argument no. 3.

So happy to have come across this. Being a single mother to 3 boys it's such a gift to find your channel - I watch this with my boys and check that they are listening and have subscribed already. It's such a relief to find someone to teach these basics for gentlemen - thanks for doing this and for some reason they pay attention even though they are still very young.
Great lesson, Antonio. All were great to learn about the logic behind them. Thank you.
Always learn something new in your videos. Thank you Antonio
Amazing Antonio...awesome insight into the little things that we miss out on a daily basis.
I love it when people explain things logically and reasonably and not the way "because my mother said so!". That's why I love this video. :)

Thank you Antonio! Another great vid.
I always learn something new from you Antonio. It probably seems basic to you and most people commenting but it never occurred to me to where a light colored belt with light colored trousers. I usually wear a black belt. It looks better your way.
One I like is 'always buy a belt when purchasing new shoes.'This is spot on. If you don't get it from the same manufacturer, it can be nearly impossible to find a nice matching belt.
@RealMenRealStyle

You don't necessarily need to exactly match it. I'll talk about it in another video.
Hi I just found your channel. I really enjoy your videos. I'm just starting to get into dressing more fancy as opposed to loose fitting clothes, basic t-shirts, etc. Keep it up.
I agree with everything except for the rule stating not to match tie and pocket square. Great video.
Great video, this is one of my favorite videos of yours. Concise, effective and with a lot of visuals.

I'm 14 and I watch men's style videos all the time. Mostly casual style, but these kind of videos are interesting also. I got myself a nice watch that my dad had, upgraded my wardrobe a bit, and I'm saving up to get some new things.
Another great video, nice to know the 'why' behind the rules. I like your shirt, I prefer buttons on the shirt that have the same colour as the shirt itself.
Love your videos Antonio. My brother-in-law and my nephew are both well dressed men, and it's always a pleasure to see them dress appropriately for the occassion.
Keep up the great work. Your easy to follow and the appearance of your material is incredible. Im trying to change my dress code from the young hip hop look to a more mature professional style. Your making the transition very easy for me with this page. Thanks!!

Great to see you here again, Jeff.
I could've sworn the top-button-only rule existed because the top button ensures the suit sits on you in the way it is meant to be worn but that the bottom button makes the suit pull in odd ways if you are ever trying to bend over or stretch in any way so it is left unbuttoned for extra mobility without hurting your look.
I agree with #4. Breaking up a suit never looks good, IMO. Especially wearing a suit/sports jacket with jeans.
Actually I was not aware of these rules before, but I exactly apply them in my dress style. Thanks Antonio.
Great video. I even avoid messenger bag for my suit

@dylanhale2034

what he said for the belt goes for the shoes too.
@The_Misanthropologist
8 жыл бұрын
A belt looks best if matched perfectly to one's shoes. However, if one is wearing shoes of a noncolor, like gray, then an appropriate match would be to one's watch strap. If you are wearing noncolor shoes and a watch without a leather band-a metal link band, for example-then this is where you match your belt to your trousers. A good touch to assert your style prowess is to actually mismatch your belt and your shoes. Keep in mind that the shoes are the endpoint of the outfit, and should have a low contrast to prevent the eye from getting caught on the shoes. Therefore, this look is best when the belt is lighter than the shoes (for example, an indigo suit with brown semi-brouges and a taupé belt).

Hey antonio, your outfit looks really great. Which trousers/ shoes are you wearing to that and in what colour?
Sorry Antonio. I think a matching tie and square looks sharp. Love the content though. Keep em coming.
Well-said, Antonio. The reason behind the why is always good to know and enables us to grow on our style journey. Would love to hear your thoughts on how advances in technology and what have you could affect men's style in the near future (10 years or so).

I like this guy's advice because it's practical. It isn't buried in ads for sponsors. It's advice for real men who don't have thousands to blow or are so uptight they glue their polo shirt collars so they stay up...

The first video I watched on this channel was from 2012, it seemed boring but I needed the info, the second video was straight from 2016. Man much more energy, much better way of conveying the knowledge across, much better editing and most of all, much better looking !

IMO Antonio is much too cold in his delivery. He is too uptight he moves his hands in specific ways, he does not convey honesty... I know he is saying useful stuff and I know better than to not trust him, it's just that marketing wise, this uptight image doesn't look so good on a youtube video.
I really liked the backpack rule. Ive seen way too many guys at my college do it and the backpacks are not great looking with a suit.
Good point about leaving the bottom button undone on. Two button jacket, it simply looks dreadful when both are done. On a three button jacket it should only be the centre button which is done. Anyway, great tips, I enjoy your vids very much.
