    7 Strategies 1) Tell, don’t ask 2) Give clear expectations 3) Focus on the do’s not the don’ts State in positive terms 4) Be brief and simple with instructions- one thing at a time 5) Get close and gain child’s attention ( look at my eyes ) 6) “I mean business” teacher voice, not loud, frantic. A low firm slow voice. Example- Use in times of fire alarm 7) First / Then ( first do what I want you to do, then we can do xyz.) Good for transitioning to different activities.

    Great tips! Very helpful! 👏 I've been teaching for several years now, but I switched this year from teaching 3 year old preschool to 4 & 5 year old Pre-K! I use many of these strategies, but it's always good to review. 👍🙂 Clean up time is challenging this year... Everyone is having so much fun that they just don't want to stop playing. We use a timer with lights and a sound, call and response, and a clean up song. I think I need to walk up to a few of my kiddos and get down to their level more often. Thanks for the reminders!! 💗😎 Glad I found your channel!

    I know that can be very challenging. I recently added a video on positive ways to reward children. My suggestion would be to reward good behavior as frequently as possible and be sure to let the little know exactly what behaviors he/she is doing to get the positive reinforcement (so they will repeat it). Good luck and let me know how it goes.

    Good Luck! I know teaching can be very daunting when first starting out. Remember that if you try something and it flops (it happens to all of us), just use it as a learning lesson. Sometimes, teaching is just trial and error. The more you try, the more you will settle into your own style and what works for you. • @positivepreschooltips

    For a two year old, I would set up a place in the classroom that is specifically for throwing. It could be a laundry basket on its side or a box with a hole in it,, etc and I would provide soft blocks or stuffed toys for throwing. Then there is an appropriate place for this little one to throw. If he/she throws other toys, I would say, “ Oh, you want to playing in the throwing center”, and then I would walk the little to the throwing center. This will give him/her an acceptable way to play by throwing it will also disrupt the throwing behavior at other centers. Let me know if you try and if it works. Good luck.

    What do I do when a child wants to be held and starts to scream if I try to set him down because I have other stuff to work on? Also how can I find my confidence when they’re all running around not listening? I feel like I inherited so much work that maybe I am not capable of doing. I just got placed as a lead teacher in a classroom that hasn’t had a steady teacher for 4 months. I want to create a positive loving environment but they seriously don’t listen.

  • @positivepreschooltips

    @positivepreschooltips

    @jennajones5434 I might suggest encouraging them with fun rewards when they do participate or do as you ask them. Sweet scented lip balm can be rubbed on the back of their hands so they can smell it and feel recognized for good behavior. The trick is to let them know exactly what they are doing that you are rewarding. For example say, “You stood in line just like I asked!” Then rub the lip balm in the back of their hand. You may need to start by only rewarding the children that are following your directions. This will give the ones not listening motivation to listen so they can get the smelly lip balm on the back of their hand too. I also use a simple song that uses the children’s names that has been a life-saver for me in getting their attention. I’ll copy the link. Good luck and let me know how it goes.

    Do you have advices how to work with children with autism?

  • @positivepreschooltips

    @positivepreschooltips

    3 ай бұрын

    It’s hard to give a complete response in the comments (possibly a video with that subject is needed), however there are a few simple rules of thumb when working with children with autism. 1. Try and keep your routine consistent and predictable. 2. When possibly, pair words or requests with pictures (i.e. when requesting a child sit, pair it with a picture of a child sitting). This offers the child the verbal and visual cue. Visual schedules are also very helpful. You can take pictures of the activities of the day (i.e. the circle area, playground, lunch room, etc) and place them in sequential order. The child can refer to the visual schedule to help them transition throughout the day. 3. Teach the child the first/then strategy. FIRST you do what is requested (complete the activity) THEN you get to do what you want (play with the toy train). The child then learns that if they cooperate, they get rewarded with something they find enjoyable. 4. If there is a change to the routine, provide plenty of warning before the change takes place. Thank you for the question; I hope these few suggestions offer you a starting place for working with children with autism.

    Every strategy doesn't work for every teacher or for every child. This little one may need something more visual (than verbal). I have a couple videos with suggestions for visual strategies. Teaching children is a very difficult job; hang in there!
