The first sign I see when my girls don't feel well is the look on their face. (they don't have their same degree of curiosity and enthusiasm when they have a UTI) If they look tired I know something is off.

My Guinea pig Snowball just recently passed away and I am devastated. Thank you so much for this video, Scotty. If only if I watched this video sooner I would’ve know if my Snowball was sick. She stopped eating a few days ago so I had to syringe feed her and the as the days went on, she kept on getting worse and worse. At the last day, she could barely walk and was breathing very heavily. I wished I could’ve spended more time with her. I feel like I’m such a bad owner. I miss her so much. Rest In Peace Snowball. 💕🌈

I lost one of my guinea pigs at the beginning of this year. There were some symptoms so was going to take her to the vet but because she seemed ok I didn’t book an emergency appointment. Unfortunately she went downhill so quickly so it was too late. I felt so guilty and that I was a bad owner for a long time afterwards. It does get easier however and just remember if you were truly a bad owner you wouldn’t be feeling bad. Be kind to yourself and sorry for your loss. 💕

Aloha, please do not hate on yourself. Piggies are fragile and prone to many illnesses. You were trying your best. I am sorry to hear of your loss. Try to think of all the good, fun, happy times you had together. Guinea Pigs are magical, and somehow create a fairytale type environment for magical responsible pet parents💥 🐹🌟☮️.

Drinking tons of water is another warning. Two piggies that always got along and are fighting, one is likely sick. Every time one of my piggies made the “chirping” sound…another was sick. Standing in the corner with their face to the wall is very bad. Pellets are constantly wet, severe teeth problems, can’t chew and is drooling. I hate all the experience I have sometimes. Paw prayers from all of us in Wisconsin 💜

My Tokyo had soft poops about a week ago, but I figured out the problem, it was a little too much veggies, I've started to cut back on the veggies and double the amount of hay and problem is now solved, but I had a vet appt on standby incase that wasn't the problem. Thankfully it seems to be the situation is now resolved and I'm happy about that.

Thanks Scotty. These things are very important to take notice of. Also, when people spend alot of time with their piggies, they should notice when their behaviour is a bit off. Like, they'll go sit at the back of their home and maybe go silent with their back to their pals and maybe sleep too much and not interact. You probably mentioned this before but it's also a warning sign. YNWA 👍

Thank you for posting. I wish I knew the seven signs of illness when I first got my piggies. I just took them to the vets when I noticed something was off. I did have piggie books by vets and others to refer to. I was also watching in the background and saw Popeye determined to meet with, I think, Gari. All your piggies are extremely entertaining!🐹

My guinea pigs had noisy breathing and stuffy nose. Started using different hay and symptoms stopped. They were see by vet multiple times.

Wow your pig room looks pretty full up! Important video once again. If my pigs exhibit any of the signs you just discussed, I would freak. All of your signs are huge red flags. I would include not eating, signs of bloat (taut tummy, not eating, not pooping AND weird poops), and one eye blinking or squinting (hay stuck in eye).

It is! There are so many guinea pigs in need right now at the shelters. If you can find it in your heart to adopt one or two. Shelters everywhere need help and rescues are overwhelmed

Hey Scotty, recently my piggy, Choochoo has been bloated, I've been giving him gas drops and tummy rubs, it goes away but it keeps reoccurring, his poops have been mushy and clumping and he eats them. He has a good appetite, eats lots of hay and is drinking a lot. I haven't given him fresh veggies for a fee days now. I have a vet apt for tomorrow but I wanted to know what your thoughts are. If it just happens once I wouldn't worry about it if it is a constant issue a regular check-up could check for vital signs. Vets have tools that we don't have to listen and look

IM PANICKING I DONT KNOW IF MY GUINEA PIG IS COUGHING OR SNEEZING IM KEEPING AN EYE ON HER BUT I DONT KNOW IF I TAKE HER TO THE VET AS SOON AS I CAN OR IF IT JUST HER EATING VEGGIES FAST! HELP!.????!!!

I have 3 pigs. All males. Two big cages. Two live together and one alone. One of the two is sick and the lone one is sick. I adopted both of them already sick. I have taken them to the vet twice now. They have been through two rounds of antibiotics. I was wondering if I could make an appointment with your vet, and do like a zoom apt or something, since I live in Albuquerque New Mexico. Because I don’t think the vets here have enough experience.

Did any of the vets mention pneumonia? Take any X-rays ?I had a young piggie that could not get better despite two rounds of antibiotics. We send paw prayers to you and hope for the best.

Yes but it should only happen when you give out the hay or there is a ton of dust.

Something I still don’t understand is, 99% of poops will be fine, but the odd one may be soft. When this appears, I watch them and see regular poops come directly out of their butts rather than any soft poops. I may see another soft one after that, but then it’ll be normal again? When ever I’ve taken them to the vets, I do bring this up when they ask about poops. They never seem concerned or push further. If I happen to see who’s the culprit, I’ll give either probiotics or charcoal. Maybe there’s a food that doesn’t agree with one or both of them? Maybe I need to make a food diary and trial things? Anyone had this experience?

Can’t remember the name for this but it’s normal, these are the poops they generally eat, looks like cleaning bum. Part of digestion. They usually get them as they come out so we don’t usually see them.

PLEASE HELP ME!! My guinea pig Pipsqueak has crusty eyes, and his nose looks pretty crusty too, but My main concern is He's just been laying down!! He didn't go for food when I gave them food, and He didn't run around when I tried to pick him up!!! He just lay there, I'm sorry if I seem frantic n stuff, I've just had him for 3 or 4 years, and he was My first piggie out of My total 3, and I can't pay for a vet! Please help Me!!

@@erikagarcia2723 He passed two days after I watched this. However, in that period, I gathered a lot of info gathered around the subject. From everything I found, These symptoms may appear when your guinea pig has just gotten old and is ready to pass. Less likely though, they could be sick. I personally, would recommend seeing a vet if possible or spending your last moments with your piggie. Wrap em' up in a blanket, try to feed them a treat. P.S: Whatever happens, please, tell me. I hope they're okay!

@@SpookseyI am so, very sorry to hear that ☹️ I’m suspecting my Guinea pig is sick, but I’m not sure of it yet so I’m trying to watch videos on it. He’s young, and last night he was breathing very heavy and loud as if he had a respiratory infection. From what I know he hasn’t done it again, right now both of my Guinea pigs are eating and his behaviour doesn’t seem “that” weird. How are you doing now? His eyes seem watery but I’m pretty sure that’s normal for him. If you reply to me, I’ll try and update you. Thanks for the tips & advice. ❤

@@HeyImFunne Sorry I'm six days late, but I'd recommend keeping a good eye on him throughout the day. If it gets any worse let me know. Any specifics I'd keep an eye out for include: 1. Their waste (Abnormally large or stopped disposing of waste altogether) 2. Laying down. (Or dragging themself to move) 3. Refusal to eat or drink.

If it's only isolated to when they are cleaning themselves I would say that is probably okay as long as they don't show other symptoms like lethargic behavior runny nose crusty nose and eyes and labored breathing sounds. Of course guinea pigs create a white milky fluid from their eyes when they are grooming and that is also completely normal
