SriDevi represents spiritual wealth while BhuDevi represents material wealth. Hence, SriDevi holds a blossomed lotus and is placed on the right side of Lord Vishnu while BhuDevi holds a unblossomed lotus and is placed on the left side of the Lord Vishnu, to show that spiritual wealth supercedes material wealth and is the ultimate pathway to liberation, moksha. Similar divine concept is seen in Greek mythology involving Aphrodite Urania & Aphrodite Pandemos. The former represents celestial love while the latter represents physical love. The origin of Greek mythology can be traced back to Vedic culture. Hope that helps. ☺
