Those are good tips. I spent money on octo holders that didn't work worth a darn...the snorkel holder works great. That swimmer's ear tip would have saved my last day of diving last winter in Mexico...plus the pharmacy cost for a medical treatment. I never realized that Baby Shampoo wasn't reef-safe...seems like everybody on dive boats uses it...

White vinegar and some eucalyptus work pretty well as a wetsuit cleaner too. Let it soak, let it dry, smell gone. Having had pets I’ve started to hate the smell of enzymatic cleansers but must admit I’d never considered them. If you get no shit eucalyptus oil only is a little or your whole house will smell like it.

Do you have any tips for how to attach a boltsnap to your primary regulator in a long hose primary donate setup? I've been reading that tying with some line from your spool isn't the safest because if your buddy has an out of gas emergency while you're on a stage bottle and your primary regulator is clipped off, the regulator that you'll be donating is not quick release. Someone was suggesting that the boltsnap on the long hose should break away, but I don't know what to use for that.

Vinegar and alcohol work fine for swimmers ears, I store my solution in a ears or eyes medicine bottle. If you suffer of swimmers ears you can coat the ear canal with baby oil before dive, work fine also after dive

For GoPro I’d add take a picture of your contact info, a selfie, then a picture of the company you’re diving with so at least the person who finds it may just hand it back to the dive shop you were diving with. It might get it back to you if you’re still on vacation.

Spot on! After several stories of finders trying to reunite equipment with its owner via increadible detective work and/or social media sharing, I too figured out a couple years back that a photo of some contact details would exponentially increase the chances of a successful reunification with at least the content if not also the equipment.

For the ear alcohol, I would suggest using an empty saline bottle or something similar with a dropper. Using a spray mechanism could unnecessarily put pressure on the eardrum, possibly causing damage. With the dropper, you can squeeze it in without pressure. Uses a lot less alcohol, too. Make sure you label the bottle so you don't try to use it on your contacts!!

Start with 50/50 and add water to dilute until your ear isn’t itchy. This May not be an issue unless you’re diving everyday, but sometimes swimmers get their ears to dry and it starts itchy and flaking in there(atleast my kids and their friends had that problem).

Any chance you could do a video on a solid drying system for wetsuits and drysuits? I've considered building one out of PVC but do you have any specific recommendations on making sure your gear is dried properly after diving?

  • @ernestlcolemanjr

Use rubbing alcohol/vinegar ear drops A common mix is 50/50 rubbing alcohol and vinegar - the alcohol works against bacteria and dries the ear, while the vinegar makes sure the ear does not dry out too much by the alcohol.
