Wayne Goss has always been educational.
I work in a Sephora @ Kohl's and the number of women who have dry skin and either set their foundation or bake is depressing. "I have really cakey foundation no matter what I do!" Do you have dry skin? Are you using powder to set your makeup? "But aren't you supposed to?" No, sweetie. You need a gentle exfoliator, a good moisturizer, hydrating makeup primer, a good setting spray, and your skin will be flawless. You are not everyone else. You are special, and your skin naturally takes everything you put on it and absorbs it, the same way I take everyone around me and absorb their emotions.

Serious question? I was taught that if you DON'T powder after foundation and then put your powder bronzer or bush on top of it will result in a patchy, streaky hot mess. 60 years old, combo skin...help a sister out, lol!!
@myheartiswriting

@@kmoresco6858 Someone else can correct me if I'm wrong. From my experience it depends on the products themselves and your skin type. It might also have to do with the quality of the product you are buying. Many mature clients of mine were taught how to apply makeup to compensate for poor quality products or to get the most out of whatever they had available. Using setting powder before applying other pigmented powders allows the foundation to set and make it easier to apply. However, this may be outdated reasoning due to multiple reasons. One, foundation formulas have changed. Even foundations from just fifteen years ago are vastly inferior to what they are now. Most older foundations heavily relied on silicone to keep them stable and preserved. Now, we have both water and oil-based foundation that interact with the skin as well as other products differently. Next, pigmented powders have better formulas too, now made for longevity regardless of the kind of foundation you buy. Then there's more types of blushes, bronzers, contours and highlights than ever before, everything from powder to cream to liquid, all of which interact with your skin type and endless type of foundations. This also means there are some products that will always be patchy for you. If you have combination skin, products are going to react differently to your skin, because they aren't meant for you. One example is I cannot wear Charlotte Tilbury's cream brushes, highlighters, and bronzers. No matter what I do, they are patchy on me, they disappear from my face in less than forty-five minutes, they don't work for me. Why? They're not made for me. They're designed for people with oily to combination skin, and that's why I can't wear that product line. Equally, the Makeup by Mario foundation looks phenomenal on me, with my dry skin, while other people find it patchy and uncooperative, because it isn't made for their skin type. It just depends, and back in the day, people had to find ways to deal with products that weren't as attuned to their skin type and had to find other ways to make it work. I will also quickly add, if you are unsure about if a foundation or blush will work together, stick to looking at one brand if you find that works for you, or two brands with similar formulation. Brands make products that go together. "If they are made together, they will work together." "Every brand makes soulmates out of their makeup," whatever mantra helps you the most. If this was confusing or too long, let me know and I'll add a TLDR.

I'd love a tutorial on how to avoid foundation getting patchy on top of a sunscreen! I'm 90% sure the sunscreen is the reason why my makeup looks textured, but also will never stop using it
@milkywaydragon
Жыл бұрын
Most sunscreens are greasy, and oils will break down makeup quickly. Try finding a sunscreen that is intended for use on the face under makeup, as these are less greasy, like the Shiseido ones. Avoid adding any further glowing/oily products to the routine. I stipple foundation and concealer into the pores with a foundation brush, then set with a very light layer of setting powder, and finish with a generous amount of matte setting spray.

You have to use the brand skin goop (I know it’s a silly name) but I’m 36 and just now got on the sunscreen game but Im very fair skinned and all the sunscreen moisturizers would leave my skin sticky or white and my makeup never set well BUT then I used Skin Goop and it’s a game changer! Im not one to product hype but if you need a good moisturizing sunscreen that can come in sheer or in tinted colors and you want it to absorb well, protect you and is natural and smells good then I recommend checking skin goop out!

I agree 100%! It really does help when you know exactly what’s going on your skin,,,
As someone who has dry skin and NEVER produces any oils whatsoever, I've learned that my skincare really determines the look and longevity of my foundation. I love to spritz my face AFTER my sunscreen has dried down, I use the Sioris The Time is Running Out mist. This mist is part oil, giving my skin some much needed hydration and moisture. I wait 5 minutes before applying my foundation and I've never experienced any problems doing this. A huge "Thank you" for getting back to basics with your vids. Dude this made my day, this is exactly the type of video I’m always wishing for. What you said makes perfect sense and I will keep that in mind! Thank you so much for allowing us to learn from you ❤ I love you and this new Marlena era. Can’t wait for some tutorials!!

Wow, I just found your channel and this was the most educational makeup video I've seen! Your makeup looks soooo flawless! Thanks for sharing!
Love your way of presenting these concepts. So clear and interesting. One tip that I use that I remember Bobbi Brown saying in an interview: you don’t necessarily need foundation everywhere. I start my application on the part of my face that needs the most evening out, and I leave certain spots like my nose and forehead almost free from foundation. This really helps avoid cakieness.

Holy grail of info, thank you!! I’ve been on the hunt for a good foundation and been striking out. This helps out a lot! I have dry skin but typically no blemishes or noticeable texture bare face and I moisturize and prime. Brands that people swear by for dry skin have not been working for me but now I can pay close attention to the ingredients and see if there is a formula trend. For me even with primer I’m getting dry areas most noticeable by my nose and forehead and polka doting on my nose. Too faced was super dry as well as abh and fenty. I’m currently testing out Sephoras brand foundation.

I’ve been so frustrated for years especially during the pandemic because my foundation sits on the surface of my skin and would wipe off as soon as I put a mask on.. Excellent descriptions! You satisfy the biochemist in me. Q: What about sweaty face? I’m using a powder foundation that I don’t really love and has now been discontinued, but it’s the only thing I’ve found that survives my serious sweating. I stopped putting much product under my eyes for this reason. I use keihl’s avocado eye cream under my eyes. Then I use a soft small blending brush to spot-apply glossier stretch concealer only to areas under my eye with discoloration. A very small amount only exactly where the darkest coloring is. Then I spray setting spray onto a flat brush and push it over the concealer. No powder. It’s the only way to keep my under eye looking normal.
Oh my god - thank you for admitting that silicones break some people out. They make my skin go bananas and you can't believe the number of times I've been told that I'm imagining it because "no they don't, they're non-comedogenic."

Same applies for patchy concealer. Usually it gets patchy because the eyes aren't moisturized enough and the concealer you're using is too thick and dry. If your concealer is thick, add a drop of face oil to thin it down and give it extra moisture. Then set with the tiniest bit of powder on a powder puff (the ones you see me use from Amazon)
