Surgery Isn't the Only Treatment: Traditional approaches to scoliosis often lean heavily towards surgery, particularly as the condition progresses. However, surgery isn't the sole solution, especially for mild to moderate cases. Modern conservative treatments offer promising outcomes, with high success rates in reducing scoliosis and improving curvature before it reaches a severe stage. Integrating various treatment options can effectively manage scoliosis without resorting to surgery.
Rarity of Severe Deformity: Severe scoliosis deformities are relatively uncommon, often presenting with subtle posture deviations. Many cases, especially in adolescents, go undiagnosed due to mild symptoms. Proactive chiropractic-centered treatments can significantly improve posture deviations, even in severe scoliosis cases. Some patients show such remarkable improvement that identifying scoliosis becomes challenging.
Pregnancy and Scoliosis: Scoliosis does not significantly impact pregnancy or labor for most women. While concerns about epidurals may arise, proper communication with healthcare providers can address potential challenges. The most complex aspect of scoliosis during pregnancy is ensuring correct administration of epidurals, but with proper care, women with scoliosis can have normal pregnancies.
Exercise and Scoliosis: Staying active is crucial for scoliosis management, with exercise playing a pivotal role. Contrary to common belief, individuals with scoliosis don't need to restrict their physical activities. Scoliosis-specific exercises, combined with a spine-friendly lifestyle, help improve spinal mobility and overall health. Patients can engage in various exercises and sports without adverse effects on their condition.
Comfortable Bracing Options: Traditional braces like the Boston brace often pose discomfort due to their bulkiness and pressure. However, modern braces like Skoli braces offer lighter, more customizable alternatives. These braces utilize advanced technology to address individual body types and curvatures, gradually improving scoliosis while ensuring comfort. Similar to dental braces, as the condition improves, braces become increasingly comfortable over time.
Understanding Scoliosis Causes: Scoliosis isn't typically caused by external factors like heavy lifting or poor posture. Rather, it stems from underlying structural conditions that develop during juvenile years. While the exact cause remains unclear, it's evident that external factors alone aren't sufficient to trigger scoliosis. Early detection and intervention are crucial for effective management, irrespective of the cause.
Managing Spinal Health: Concerns about spinal collapse are common among individuals with scoliosis, but proactive treatment significantly reduces the risk. Conservative approaches, especially proactive chiropractic-centered treatments, focus on reducing scoliosis and preventing further progression. Regular monitoring ensures timely intervention, minimizing the likelihood of severe complications. While untreated scoliosis poses risks, proactive management significantly mitigates them, ensuring long-term spinal health and function.

Could you talk please about scoliosis and osteoporosis. Not the osteoporosis that is -2.8, but lower than that. Dexa results are confounded for the lumbar spine when there is a scoliosis(mine is 37 degrees left at 75 years old) , and Dexa does not read the thoracic. I am on an anabolic drug for a year and when they go to give me another Dexa eventually, they can't properly read my spine. Can you please comment on your experience with scoliosis and osteoporosis. Thank you.

How do you combine therapy in a person with severe pain both at the priMARY and the secondary curve site of Scoliosis PLUS Osteoporosis PLUS severe Osteoarthritis of the whole spine PLUS fractured L1 and L2. There is a challenging question fo you if you ever intend to read or answer this comment

We would need to know more about the patient. Combining therapy for a person with severe pain at the primary and secondary curve sites of scoliosis, osteoporosis, severe osteoarthritis of the entire spine, and fractured L1 and L2 vertebrae requires a comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach. Please note that our treatment requires your ability to travel to our location.

My curve is 20° and I have lumbar scoliosis. It was diagnosed 3 years ago at age 66. My pain is getting so unmanageable especially on my right side around my ribs. When it hurts really bad I can tell it swells and an ice pack is all that helps. No one else seems to have side pain and I don't understand why mine is so severe with such a small curve. Is it possible there's another cause for the severe pain? I'm going to physical therapy and they tell me it's the curve pulling the muscles and stretching putting pressure on the spine. It's so hard to walk or even move when that side pain starts. Can you tell me anything about the side pain and how to correct it/stop it. Thank you
