7 real reasons to MOVE to GERMANY

For one thing the standard of living is extremely high in Germany.
In this videoI detail some of the reasons why you might want to move to Germany. These are a mix of my personal experiences and preferences as well as some survey and data backed reasons as to what makes Germany an attractive place to live in.
Why would you want to watch this?
Well I am a Brit who has been living in Germany for the past 10 years. After completing University in the UK I moved to China where I spent two years teaching English in a range of different schools. I also spent 2 years traveling through Australia and Asia so I have significant experience when it comes to exposure to foreign cultures and important factors to consider when moving and living in a different country.
I will include some interesting source here:

Excellent video! From my American point of view (also lived in Germany for 18 years). The part of consumerism is for many Americans the reason for living. I liked Germany for less emphasis on possessions and cash instead of cards. One big point is religion. In the US religion is a big part of politics, society, and culture, some churches are the size of huge sports arenas. Religion has too much influence which results in censorship. I like that religion in Germany maintains a low profile and deals with issues different than that of their counterparts in the US. Other favorites about Germany. Excellent public transportation. Culture in media. The parliamentary system instead of a two-party system. Workers have rights. I miss Germany and Frankfurt (my home for 11 years), and would like to get back.

As it is pretty common to find apartments without a kitchen, you can find kitchens even in some hardware stores. You can also look at Ikea or furniture stores. If that's to expensive, there also is a big second hand market for kitchens and appliances. I got my stove, fridge, dish washer and washing machine from a second hand store who offers refurbished, checked and cleaned appliances. All in all i payed less than 700 Euro for all, and it's all first class equipment. If you're ok with second class equipment, there are "single kitchens" available (with appliances) from about 750 Euro on upwards (no washing machine, no dish washer) from hardware stores. If that still is to much, check the "electric bay" for private sales, you might get a complete kitchen for 300 Euro. So, it shouldn't break your bank if you only find apartments without a kitchen. Best of luck for finding an apartment.

@@07U There are furniture stores like XXLLutz, always worthwhile to check out, as they often have have special reduced high quality kitchen. I got mine for 5K including gib fridge, separate freezer, dishwasher, oven, kitchen top, sink and so on. That price included delivery and installation, which took like 4 hours maybe. On top, you need an electrician to put the necessary electrical installation in, and power outlets. And then a decorator to fix the walls. These kitchens last forever, so keep them simple in design and colour, go for matt finished surfaces instead of the shiny ones 🤣 A lot of tenants that move are offering their already installed kitchen for the new tenant to buy, and some flats the kitchen is already installed. You should have added the density of music theatres in some regions. I live near Cologne and in a radius of 100km (mostly less) you have excellent opera houses in: Düsseldorf, Essen, Dortmund, Wuppertal, Hagen, Aachen (audience also from the Netherlands and Belgium), Münster, Bonn, Gelsenkirchen, Bochum (spoken drama), forgive me dear countrymen/women if I have forgotten any. I know that there are great performances in Krefeld, Mönchengladbach, Bielefeld and Düren. We have a lot of open air theatres especially in Baden Württemberg. Jeunesse musical in Weikersheim is really European. I have been a regular visitor at Stratford-upon-Avon, magnificent performances there. Aachen is something special, close to our friends, the Belgians and the Dutch which we once invaded. Nice to see that children of Strasbourgh cross the Rhine to have a nice time at the playgrounds in Kehl. France is great, hard to imagine that we were arch enemies once. @@britingermany Good morning Brit, thank you very much for your kind comment. "Rund um den Finanzplatz Eschborn" is a traditional bycicle race which was formerly called "Rund um den Henniger Turm". The charm is that it passes through many nice places like Hofheim, Schwabbach, Bad Königsstein and of course "Den großen Feldberg." I have often been at the opera House in Wiesbaden, very nice in a Baroque style. I have seen many performances at Stratford-upon-Avon and had the opportunity to take a part in Hamlet. Behind Shakespeare's house of birth actors and actresses play scenes on demand. I was Laertes and all I had to say was "Father I want to say good-bye". My father was the more wicked Polonius who then started his fare well speech. Mostly tourists want the balcony scene of Romeo and Juliet to be performed. I have got an overseas membership of the Royal Shakespeare Company. Though I love Shakespeare Wagner is the greatest dramatist for me as he involves music as dramatic means. Friends of mine were at the concert of Ed Sheeran in Frankfurt last week. They had good seats, however it was raining and Ed had to change his clothes several times. - wish you all the best - By the way, "Rund um den Finanzplatz Eschborn" always takes place. May 1st.

I am not sure if I like your video. As a German I moved to the USA in 1989 being recruited by a headhunter and feeling curious about the states. While it was a different country then, I still hated it but as a good German I wanted to honor my 1 year contract over here. As you may remember, in the meantime reunification happened and I returned to a madhouse in 1990. Now I made the biggest mistake of my life and decided it is easier to be a foreigner in a foreign country than to feel like a foreigner in my own and returned to the states. For many reasons I got stuck here since and can not return to Germany until retirement which is an unbearable 5 years to go. I count every day and in the meantime hope not to get sick, which could mean bankruptcy, my kids not getting shot in their schools, I struggle to find affordable foods that are not too highly processed and loaded with sugar, fat, salt and all sorts of chemicals, I hope not to get lead poisoning from the drinking water, I struggle to live an environmentally responsible life, including not to drive everywhere, dispose of garbage sensibly etc. and perhaps most scary is the very real threat of right wing militias, Trump and his mercenaries on a nationwide level but also in my personal microcosm having 3 biracial children. Yep, and now you rub in how abnormal the American normality is. Thanks a bunch.

That's how people for Britain love to misinform and misdirect people with inaccurate information. People tend to believe them because of their accents and their command on the English language.. This is a widespread phenomenon occurring amongst anglophones (Immigrants colonized By The British)and anybody that happens to be able to form on an British accent that I feel I need to use this opportunity to address; where people can just say anything onto lie while people get carried away with the actual validity and accuracy of the message being conveyed. Oh because it happens to come from a person that knows how to elocute then it happens to be correct. Our society must get beyond the glamour of language and stay focused on the reality to which things actually point. People are being driven to complete poverty as a result of incorrect information being passed about. its just harmful. Actions speak louder the words. And what he manages to be right about is his choice to stay in Germany. That is a world decision that any properly educated persons should make. To stay and visit with Germany

Hey, a pro-Germany video I actually pretty much agree with! (US citizen spent 12 years in Germany, and didn't really enjoy most of it) The one qualifier I'd want to make is regarding the "Afford more with less" section... I felt like the housing costs were pretty crazy (and utilities), but the grocery prices felt like they actually made more sense... Here in America there's things for 6 bucks that I paid like 2 bucks for a similar product in Germany... Of course other things were also more expensive over there, especially niche products, but the general day to day groceries I bought were usually a lot cheaper than I pay in the USA... Also, I love a nice beef steak as much as the next guy, but German's had much more affordable pork steaks in the stores that had some really nice seasoning and flavor and were really pretty amazing for the price.

I lived in Germany for 3 years in the military and married a German so we travel back to visit family often. I agree with your points and love the country and people. Most things about Germany are better than the same things in the US but so many Americans never travel beyond North America and/or refuse to look objectively at different countries. Many things in Germany are less expensive but housing is a big factor for moving and often is way more expensive than average US homes and for smaller homes and way smaller property. That is probably the biggest factor for not moving there for us. Some things that I wish Germany would fix are the excessive graffiti especially along train lines, alleys and many other places. For such a clean and organized country this stands out as an eye sore. No air conditioning is one thing but the unnatural fear of air movement from open windows on public transport or God forbid a fan is just insane. Smoking is also more common in Germany which is annoying since it is permitted more places and if you do have a window open in 90 degree F heat you get to enjoy the smell even if you don't want to. Cars, fuel, and parking are quite a bit worse but Germany at least makes up for it with very good public transit and great driving roads and driver's behavior.

And I'm a software developer, if that's relevant. 2) I've heard a few unpleasant things about ageism in German employment, especially in IT. german software dev here: #1 you'll robably have to find an entrylevel job to prove yourself w/o certification, but it's certainly possible. having finished projects you can show off would be extremely helpfull. this applies both to freelance and employment. #2 in my experience it's not about age, but about your willingness and ability to learn new things. if you still do things how they were done 25 years ago, you may find it difficult to get a cutting edge job, on the other hand most of our big banks still run cobol mainframes...

We came to Germany in 2015. Your chances as a software developer are pretty good, especially in urban areas like Berlin or Hamburg. But be aware of high costs of living there. (The rents skyrocketed in recent years) Can't say much about ageism, bc we've never heard anyone complaining about. But I guess you could count this positively. (We're 39 and 34)

@@FulloutPostal Thanks for the reply! I do have a certificate for a 1 year vocational training, and I do kind of have a portfolio, although most apps I've worked on are team projects and regional (I mean, available for a set region on Google Play). And ouch for cobol mainframes, although things aren't much better here when it comes to banks. Thankfully, I'm an Android dev, so the worst I'd have to deal with would be a pure Java project with homebrew MVP architecture.

I would say you have good chances as a developer as there seems to be a shortage at the moment. Like previously mentioned if you have a portfolio and good work experience you will find employment. Big companies will most likely want qualifications and certificates but there are always small businesses and agencies who value proven good work more than certificates. If you’re talking about employees then yes I would agree that companies are more likely to hire a 30 year old than a 60 year old. However I am not sure what it is like for freelancers. I myself have not heard anystories of anti ageism. Wish you all the best 👍🏻

It is funny, the Internet is now full of videos who tell people how great Germany is. But in reality the numbers of rich and edjucated Germans who left Germany are growing. They grow that fast, Germany is already talking about "brain-drain". And these nunber would be even higher if everyone who is willing to go, would be able to left the country. So maybe the BRD is not as great as these videos imply.

I like to share my opinion, but I already know that KZread will delete my comment (or at least shadow bann it). Let me try to give you some ideas without ugly details. First of all, I agree with a lot of your thoughts. I am an engineer. I work with people all around the globe (on every continent) since more than 16 years. So I guess I got some knowledge about other cultures and mentalities. In Germany we got 16 States and at least 7 different mentalitys. So there is not "the German". In the past we had high taxes, strange bureaucracy, but people could say "yes it is expensive, but we all live a good life". But since 25 years our texas are still rising, but everything else went south. A lot of people lost their trust in our government. Germany still struggle with its own history and it seems to get worse from year to year. Freedom of speach is a huge problem, or better the lack of it. This is really a big problem, because usually Germans are straight and honest. A huge part of the foreign politics got no backup from the people. A lot of people are now born poor and they will stay poor, no matter if they work or not. And we as a country will decline even more. Because we lost our abillity to discuss and argue. Since Angela Merkel said for the first time "this decision is unavoidable"...politics become religion. So a lot of people become ignorant or fatalistic. The years 2020-2021 destroyed some parts of the society and so a big amount of people say "I am done here". And like in every company, the best ones go first, because they got options.

This is completely normal for all Western countries since high skills make it easier to get visas and find jobs abroard. In our modern day and age it is easier than ever to migrate. It is even encouraged to have some international experience on a CV. It is more of a brain circulation than a brain drain. Germans move to Britain, Brits move to Germany. Net total Western Europe has a massive brain gain of course.

that brain drain story is a lobby piece pushed by the chamber of commerce, attached to some "alarming" numbers they cried about high labour cost and taxes while failing to mention that they refuse to offer payment/benefits comparable to the nations our "brains" go to while also giving foreigners even worst deals then germans for the same jobs ... further preventing a balance between ingoing and outgoing "brains". As usual they just demanded the state should take responsibility for the industries failures to attract workers. I wouldnt pay too much attention to our business lobbies, they even cry while making record profits.

I think when you are boring and close minded person you can be any nationality and not German specifically, and if you are German boring and very strict person what you believe are then you represent yourself only as German and you don’t represent the all population of Germany. So my point is and my believes are that every country has boring and exciting people so look for the people who’s like you and stop generalizing and making the all country looks bad because some of the population are close minded or behave different than you. The anglo saxon conquest was by far the most gory of all invasions Britain ever suffered. The male population of east England has been exchanged compleetly. @Brit in Germany , Let me count the ways: (1) I was physically assaulted at a playground while with my wife and kids. I defended myself and the children around me. I destroyed the attacker, fractured his orbitals, and separated his shoulder. The Polizei took the attacker's side seeing how badly damaged he was, but the attacker stupidly admitted that he didn't know I could fight. Ofcourse he wouldn't know that I I was a retired US Army Ranger. I was released and the Polizei had no choice but to arrest the attacker. (2) I was hit by a vehicle while on my Harley. The Polizei came and instead of calling an ambulance, they asked for my passport. I reached for my ID card and they saw I was a US Govt. official. Suddenly their tone changed. (3) I lived in a small town in Bavaria. My children speaks fluent German, but none of the neighbor's would acknowledge our existence. Perhaps it was due to our skin color or the slant on our eyes? None would sit with us or acknowledge us at church as well. (4) I've been refused service at a restaurant. Not sure why? I dress well, I'm polite and respectful. I've been refused service by food vendors at fests (5) I've confronted many German men who was extremely rude to my wife. When they realized that size and numbers wouldn't intimidate me, they talk back while walking away. (6) Many men have called my wife some distasteful names because she married a Hawaiian native. She's gorgeous, blonde hair with green eyes, but you can see their disgust when she holds my hand and shows me a little affection. Yes, there are many more examples. I stand to my opinion. All are cowardly. I'm Hawaiian, I'm supposed to love life. Now I enjoy watching the fear in German men's eyes when I encounter them in my Hawaiian islands. A place they will NEVER be welcomed.

7 reasons not to move to Germany; (1) Tax, Health Insurance, Pension contributions & compulsory unemployment contributions means that if you are a single person you'll be lucky to take home 49% of your pay, (2) Service is rubbish, people working in shops have the attitude that if they weren't there you'd have nowhere to shop & everything is closed on Sunday (sometimes if a Bank Holiday falls on Monday the shops will be shut on Sunday & Monday, & that sucks!!!), (3) Bureaucracy is everywhere, for example everytime a car is sold on you have to take it to the local car & licensing office at your local big town & get it re-registered & you get a new registration number for the car & new plates. In the UK for example the car registration stays the same on the car until it's scrapped, even if it's sold from London to Scotland the only process is to send details of the new owner to the central body, the DVLD in Swansea. (4) Old age pensioners (people over 65) don't get free public transport. In the UK it's free on the buses & in London it's free Bus & Train travel for anyone over 60!!! (5) Buying a "Round" in a pub. German's have never come across this concept. In the UK if we are out with our friends we take turns to pay for each round of drinks. German's would never do that because they think they are getting short changed. (6) Pedestrians waiting at a crossing even when no cars are coming they still wait for the "green" man to come on before crossing the road. Why??? (In Barcelona the car drivers wait for the pedestrian red light to come on & they drive off regardless of the main amber/green lights for the cars). (7) No speed limits on the Autobahns. Every country in Europe has maximum speed limits on their motorways. A speed limit is a good thing because it reduces accidents & reduces fuel consumption. But the Germans have no limits because of their beloved car industry. There are many, many more reasons too!!!!
