7 Footballers Who Are HATED In ONE Country

Спорт

From the last minute handball committed by Luis Suarez at the 2010 World Cup which made him very unpopular among Ghana fans to Declan Rice angering Republic of Ireland fans by switching his international allegiance over to England, HITC Sevens takes a look at a number of footballers who are hated in a specific country.

@@bababababababa6124 That's not so clear cut; as far as I'm aware there was only one incident (Evra) which was somewhat ambiguous. There were no other people who heard or saw the incident first hand and there was not a clear camera angle on him when it supposedly happened. He was essentially punished because there was no proof he didn't do it rather than any real proof he did. There's also the possibility of a lost in translation cultural thing which was later claimed by people (similar to the Cavani instagram incident) but I'm not sure that was the case given what was allegedly said. There's plenty of reasons to dislike or even hate Suarez but there's very little evidence to support the "he IS a racist" claim even were the Evra incident to have happened in the way it was claimed

It's so strange how Mexican supporters are furious about his dramatic fall in the 90th minute after being lightly fouled by Marquez, but never talk about the much clearer foul on Robben in the 45th minute of the first half where he didn't get a penalty despite being fouled by two Mexican defenders. Even if you say it wasn't a penalty in the 90th minute, at the very least you have to admit that it's balanced out by him not getting a penalty in the 45th minute.

Marco Materazzi in France; not at the level it was a couple of years ago, but the memory of Materazzi baiting Zidane (whether we believe Zizou should’ve been smarter) into head butting him and getting red carded, still irritates a few French fans, not only because of the eventual loss, but also because it was Zizou’s last match with Les Bleus.

  • @kattharsismic

    @kattharsismic

    2 жыл бұрын

Yeah that one still hurts, but to be completely honest with ourselves, Materazzi being the recipient of our hatred is us being dishonest and looking for anyone to blame but Zizou. Trash talking has always been part of the game, having our hero headbutt an opponent was shameful and seriously broke the heart of so many of us, especially kids like me at the time who just couldn't understand it, therefore Materazzi's name is synonymous of shame and nobody likes to feel shame so we do blame him, somewhat unjustly as if he was responsible for all of it. Seeing Zizou's career end on that note, with him walking off the pitch beside the world which he was about to gift us almost single-handedly was heartbreaking. Good shout.

I have a player that should have at least made it to the honorary mentions : Mario Yépes in Cameroon. I am cameroonian, and for those who do not know, during the 2003 international cup, one of our players, Marc Vivien Foé (played at City and West Ham btw) sadly lost his life on pitch during the semis against Colombia. He collapsed after a contact with Yépes and although the intent was obviously not to hurt, let alone kill his opponent, Yépes is till this day genuinely labelled a murderer by the old heads of a whole country, 20years later. I was too young to witness it myself, but since then I saw how much he is hated in the country. People wished death upon him anytime we saw Colombia play at a WC since

Personally I think you can blame the rules of football. In other sports such as rugby, if you stop a certain goal (or try in rugby) the referee is allowed to immediately reward a goal. This would be very rare in football as a goal is usually not guaranteed but this is one of the few cases where I think it would be beneficial to give the referee this power.

Having said that I'm Irish and many people here still hate Roy Keane for leaving the world cup in 2002, despite dragging us there not single handed, but close to it.

Unfortunately Gyan who had been incredible during the tournament failed to score. But all that is rightfully kept between Football rules. A different story would have been if the referee didn't show Suarez a red card... and still in that situation the person to blame would have been the refferee.

As you pointed out youself in one of your recent videos, your style of speaking and the quality of your audio has changed a lot and I approve and enjoy that a lot. With that being said, the videos have reached a length that I don't consider enjoyable anymore at times. Youre earlierst videos were about 5 min long and over the years they gradually became longer which is fine. But a 23 min video for a top 7 is just not the extend I am enjoying. Of course this is your channel and I dont know how other viewers fell about this change, but I much prefered videos around 10-15 min length for the usual top 7 and only documentaries in this length. Nonetheless still a big fan of your video style and my favorite football channel on yt:)

There's another complicating factor that played a part not just in the reason why Maradona was so hated in England, but also the national rivalries between England (in particular, though the UK more accurately) and Argentina in a football context. The "Hand of God" goal occurred in 1986, just 4 years after the Falklands War was fought between Britain and Argentina over the disputed Islands ~500 miles off Argentina's Coast. Many in Argentina at the time felt some sort of vindictive pleasure at getting one over on the English, as they were still raw with the defeat in the war in 1982. To this day, unfortunately, the football rivalry between England and Argentina has little to do with football and more (it seems to me) an offshoot of the dispute over the Falklands

the hatred was always there really, given that England treated south american football for the longest time as "inferior" (and held quite the racist view of us) and played a rather infamous hand in the 1966 world cup when the argentinian team captain was sent off just because "he had a mean look on his face" add to that the declarations of the British coach calling us "animals" in lieu of the outrage and well it was a matter of time til something triggered that dormant feeling

Hey Alfie, I have an idea for a video. It might be complicated, but can we get a video explaining the lighter side of football. How about the 7 funniest moments of the Premier League or 7 moments in football which you found hilarious

Hi Alfie. Another of the blatant hand balls and a little before your time is Joe Jordan in Cardiff against Wales. He totally hoodwinked the ref.

I'm Ghanaian but I don't fault Suarez. Any player who wouldn't stop that ball by any means possible didn't deserve to play for his country!

Many players, with the gift of being able to beat players on the run, dived or exaggerated their falls. Their justification was that they spent their entire careers being kicked and elbowed, very often without sufficient protection from the referee. Simulation is simply pay back. If the refereeing was better, it wouldn't ever have been a thing. Protection is much better today than it was 20 years ago but I have sympathy for the 'divers.' I know that most players who have played to a decent standard do too. We're just not allowed to say so.
