To everyone complaining about the poor audio, there is not a lot that can be done for these livestreams. John and other KZreadrs are held hostage by Google/Alphabet/KZread and the App they make for mobiles. The problem with an external microphone is it starts getting interference from cellular signals and the audio will sound garbed and terrible. This is true on iPhone AND Android. It's not a platform thing its just a limitation of the technology (GSM/CDMA). A wired mic won't play well with the gimbal and I have yet to find a solid bluetooth solution. Ultimately it's up to Google/Alphabet/KZread to improve the software.

Not exactly, the problem hasn't always been there. The iPhone has several microphones in fact but the more recent software from Google/Alphabet/KZread favors the mic of on the display side of the phone and filters out a lot of the ambient noise. Unfortunately that ambient nose includes those talking at a distance or off camera. Further, the app tends to favor the microphone located on the display side of the mobile phone NOT the one pointed at the subject. That's why it sounds so distant and muffled. The app should be using the mic located closest to the active camera or at least give the option of switching the mic being used.

Sup Nosh, I do believe he can just get a external mic so he can control the mic audio better, and also would help with the wind filtering. I definitely seen other vloggers using something like that. Obviously that is up to John, but I think it would help with audio quality

Naptime875 pick a model number of any external microphone for the iPhone. Next, find the manual by google searching the model number + “pdf”. That should get you the manual for the product. I guarantee you the manual will say to put the iPhone in airplane mode before using. Why? Because the cellular signal will cause interference with the recording. In airplane mode (no data) the mic will be useless for any live-streaming.

You may be able to add a crispy crunch back to the baguette, I have never tried it with Japanese bread, just American. You pop the fresh loaf in the oven (on the rack) with a small pan of water on a lower rack or of you don't have multiple racks you can spray the bread with a mist of water then bake for 10-15 minutes at 350°. If the bread is stale and hard you can actually dip it in water like a sponge, wrap in foil, bake for 10-15min at 300° then uncover and bake an additional 5min.

That episode about the different types of japanese sandwiches was awesome. That was the very first Only In Japan video I watched, and the one that brought me to this channel. The narration by Peter was great, I loved it, it left me with a craving for a boxed sandwich, the first chance I got to buy one, I did. Its in the US of course, so it wasn't as good, but it did kill the craving.

When I visited Tokyo on an educational visit, several of of the students always looked for a McDonald’s or Denny’s. It was so disappointing that they would not go outside their comfort zone of food. My favorite meal was our first morning there, we ate at a small restaurant, in an alley, by the Tokyo fish market. It consisted of about 4 courses and was amazing; miso soup with baby clams, rice, assorted sashimi, octopus (not my favorite), egg. It was wonderful. We spent the rest of the day crisscrossing Tokyo on the subway, and didn’t eat a full meal again until dinner (McDonalds, ha ha, only because we were tired and it was at our hotel).

  • @onlyinjapanGO

You should always try to ask permission but the staff at convenient stores can’t say yes or no. They aren’t the owner. It can take more than a month for permission to be granted to film and even then, you’ll have to decide an exact time and send a script to explain your content. To avoid inconveniencing the busy people at 7-Eleven with my request, I simply did NOT focus on the people, show their face, did not disturb anyone with the camera or blocking other customers. Be discrete. If you do get faces in a place without permission, blur the faces. Pick places used to dealing with tourists too. Central areas if you can. On the street, you’re okay as long as you do not focus the camera on any one person. I try my best to adhere to the rules. It’s hard to be perfect. In Japan, you’re expected to be. At local store, it food to have a business card to exchange with the owner and explain what you’d like to film. People almost always say yes and you often get more background in your videos. Business cards are very very important in japan and it’s something tourists should consider making just to hand out when they make friends too.

Nuts.. they were out of chiki-katsu sando. So I will have to make do with a Teriyaki Chicken sandwich. I notice they are starting to add local flavors - there was a Percik (Perchik) Chicken sandwich too - Ayam Percik is a Kelantan dish. Also two or three new flavors of onigiri, one was a "anchovy sambal" onigiri, I wonder if one day they won't just make a "nasi lemak" one as well. Complete with nori wrapper but the rice would be cooked with coconut milk and pandan, and there'd be some squid "sambal" in the middle, maybe even a slice of cucumber.

It's pretty hard to hear what Peter was saying here and a lot of the other recent streams outdoors have been difficult to hear. I've seen you can get little ones that attach to the top of the iPhone which might be useful. edit: oops, looks like you literally talked about this! Hopefully it will be solved soon.
