    👍Very informative vid. Picking a name was so much easier before we had to consider SEO and social media, especially if your intention was to stay as a local sole trader. Using a place specific name was fine. Now we have to consider something as simple as there are, for example, more than one 'Newcastle'. This didn't matter when the only place you advertised was the local rag.

    I see SO MANY companies with very limiting names, especially retail. Like "Just SOUP!" or "Windows only" and without fail, they always have to amend their name with like "AND salads!" or "AND doors"

    Ah, this is what confuses me about the first tip: I'm starting a custom cookie business, but may consider adding on other treats like cupcakes. So something broad like "sweets/treats/goodies" isn't as specific and SEO friendly like "custom cookies." AH.

    I struggled for months to name my electrical business . Not because what Andy has said is not relevant but because EVERY combination of my name, initials, location and tech terms like "bright sparks" or "not phased" had been taken. I settled on Jigsaw Electrical Services because the logo was free, made a great image on a cheap, white van, was not in use and "Services" says what I ERR...do. As Andy says at 14:50 DON'T GET TOO HUNG UP ON THIS just get on with it.

    So I'm starting a Pressure washing business but don't know what to name it. I've been thinking about it for a while now and i feel like I've spent more time on it than I should because I'm planing on making business cards, yard signs and Facebook page on it. I was thinking Pressure King Services or something else because I'm planning on doing this full time and for the long run and last thing I want to do is to have to change the name 5-10 years from now

    Hi, thank you for this video. If I sell candles, can I name my brand with 2 words ( for labeling the product) but create domain name/ buisness name adding candle at the end? For example DANCING FLAME ( on labels) and DANCING FLAME CANDLE for the domain name? Thank you!

    A question.. Your point about putting e.g "Newcastle plumber etc etc "..Wouldnt the down side to that be that hundreds will come up and who says u will be top or they will pick you..???!

    You'd be surprised! You'd need to research it for your area and make sure there aren't too many overlapping names for similar services. Perhaps go down to district level (e.g. Gosforth Handyman 😀).

    What's in your business name? Anything but you! In Slovakia I had no choice 25 years ago. As a one-man-band you were obliged to have your full name as a business name and if the clerk was in a good mood, you could add a word to it which showed which type of business you are running.

    The domain name doesn't have to be same as business name does it? It's easier to change domain name isn't it so I'd prob chose one that came up in search but use my own name from birth as my company name

  • @SmallBusinessToolbox

    @SmallBusinessToolbox

    No, doesn't need to be the same. In that situation I'd register both (trading name and company name). 👍
