This is absolutely fantastic! El Presidente in top form, reaches immortality. The topper for me is the grace of the LA fans who roar for Martinez and give him a tremendous ovation at the dénouement. PURE CLASS.

Perfect game pitching + he hit .333 and made 3 great defensive plays. The way he made it to 1st base on the 1st possible hit when Larry got a hot ball to handle, ...
Dennis Martinez will innagurate the new international stadium in Nicaragua next year in 2017. It'll be named after him, one of the greatest pitchers of all times.

Yes he was. I'll be there for the inauguration or for the first game. I'll be awesome.
What a wonderful game to watch again. Dave's classic finish to the game: "In the air...centre field...El Presidente, el Perfecto" is pure magic. On a more personal note, they mentioned a couple of times during the broadcast that the Toronto Blue Jays were playing the Kansas City Royals at the same time. I was at that game at the Skydome in Toronto (now the Rogers Centre). When it was announced to the crowd that Martinez had pitched a perfect game and they showed the final out on the stadium Jumbotron, the entire crowd stood as one and offered Dennis a long and heartfelt standing ovation, just as the fans at Dodger Stadium who watched it in person did. No doubt the same thing happened that day at every other ballpark. Some wonderful memories and as a former Montrealer I hope my beloved Expos return to the city one day. GO EXPOS GO/VIVE LES EXPOS DE MONTREAL!!

My dad and I went to this game, sat on the field level, one of the greatest bonding experiences we ever had. By the 8th inning, even we Dodger fans were rooting for Martinez to take it all the way. Pop and I talked about this game until he checked out in 2003.

that happens when a pitcher is pitching a perfect game in the opponents stadium. Fans know how rare perfect games are and to be able to say you were there when a perfect game was pitched. I mean look at the 1:52:50 mark. you see pitchers in the dodger bullpen up against the fence because they want to see the last out
Watched this game when it was played in '91 . One of the most exciting games of my life. Nothing beats a perfect game when you aren't expecting it. RIP Expos :(
Give credit to LA fans. A blow out is one thing, but they cheered him on in a close game.

Yes, I like how the announcer went through his standard routine as he always did. "Scoreboard totals are correct," he would say, or "Totals on the ballgame" as it seems he said here, then read the runs/hits/errors/left-on-base for each team, and then announce the winning and losing pitchers and their updated records. Here, he honored the moment by saying, "The winning pitcher, with a perfect game, Dennis Martinez" drawing loud cheers from the fans, and pausing for it as well.

Perhaps the greatest game I ever attended. I still have my ticket stub, the front page of the LA Times the following day and all items from that great game. Also a great bit of trivia, Ron Hassey caught 2 perfect games and Alfredo Griffin played in 3 of them.
El Presidente! El Perfecto! Classic call by Dave Van Horne
Interesting note about this historic Expos game...Because it was camera day, there was NO batting practice for either team! Perhaps this helped El Presidente? Great voices of Dave Van Horne and Ken Singleton help to add to the excitement. Montreal Expos 1969-2004 - BRING BACK THE EXPOS TO MONTREAL

I was at this game. My gf's cousin wanted to go to get a pic with Eddie Murray, which she did. Yeah, 6 innings of no-hit ball on both sides .. Hot day... many Dodger fans leave after the 7th inning. This day was no different ...those who stayed, of course got a perfecto ... certainly we were not leaving until there was no longer a no-no ... and of course got the Perfecto .. Caught up to El Presidente in his last series in the bigs and got his auto on a ball ...my memories are complete with this being online ...
Je me souvien de ce match là. Quand j'étais petit, mon père ma dit,(Assied toi. Nous somment en trin d'assister à une page d'histoire.) J'avais environ 10 ou 11 ans... Mémorable!
As a long time Expos fan I would like to say thanks for this upload. What a rare treat!
I have always been a Twins fan first & foremost, but the Expos were my favorite NL team. 1991 not only featured this fantastic game, but the Twins were champs that year too. The Expos sure got screwed by the 1994 strike - that team was destined for greatness. When MLB tried to contract our two teams during the 2002 season, it only made me a bigger fan of them. With Dave Martinez the likely new Rays manager, it's high time they move the Rays to Montreal and bring back these awesome blue uniforms.
My dad n I went to visit my grandmother in LA who was sick, & because of that she gave us her tickets to cheer on 'El Presidente', her favourite pitcher. We went & saw history. The LA fans? Absolutely polite & cheerful that two Canadians were there in their section, & how knowledgeable dad was about Dodger history, growing up a Brooklyn Fan in Toronto Ontario Canada. That final out I cried, & so did my father. The fans around us and throughout the stadium gave Martinez an amazing standing ovation, proving they're true fans of the game. Dad passed away a couple years ago, & one of the things he left me was a framed picture of us at Dodger Stadium wearing our Expos caps holding our ticket stubs, which were inside the frame as well. Ty so much for posting this!!
Que de beaux souvenirs. Je m’ennuie des Expos. Great memories. I miss the Expos.

Almost as great as the perfection itself were the LA fans cheering him on. It's not just about winning and losing, you have to get behind any player when they're about to make baseball history. Pure class from those fans!
Un latino (Nicaraguense) lanzó un juego perfecto en la historia de béisbol de grandes ligas.
I watched this *and* Mark Gardner's 9 innings of no-hit ball two days earlier live (because he lost in extra innings, it wasn't technically a no-hitter). This was an amazing series to have witnessed. Such great pitching!

I remember that too. Expos couldn't score a run in that one. Went to extra innings and I think the no-hitter was broken (and the game lost) in the 11th.
I can watch Dennis Martinez pitch all day
3-2 curve ball in the 8th, wow. Pretty gutsy pitch choice with a perfect game going.
Whoever gave this a thumbs down must really hate baseball.
Que juego más bello. Muchas gracias por subirlo a los señores de MLB Classics. Es en realidad un verdadero triunfo para nosotros los nicaraguenses es tener la copia de este juego perfecto de nuestro querido Denis Martinez. Viva Nicaragua!
He had a perfect game throwing and he also got a base hit at bat, what a perfect day for El Presidente, Nicaraguan pride 🇳🇮 🔥
As a Canadian and die hard expos fan, who now has to root for the Jays, it’s not the same...there was something so different and unique about the Expos that will never be duplicated....I can sit on a Sunday afternoon and watch these old games easier than I can watch current baseball.
It's so great to be able to re-live these great games
23 perfect games in 121 years of baseball. There have been approximately 125,000 games played in the majors since 1901.
I remember watching this game - it was an awesome game. I miss my Expos. :(
seems like yesterday...Doesn't it !!!! I could watch this over and over and over again...
I missed this game in 91 and I am so happy to finally see this game in whole!
I remember watching this game like it was just yesterday. The Expos were my favourite team of all time. I love MLB, but for me there has always been a part of it missing and that's the Expos. Dave was one of the best announcers of all-time. Kenny is in a class of his own. I'm not going to hold my breath but the best MLB could do is have Montreal build a re tractable roof stadium and get the Rays there as the Expos. Just dreaming I guess.

It's cool to see the LA fans being so appreciative of the accomplishment, even as their team got creamed.
Just rewatched it now during coronavirus and have to say one of the greatest moment as an expos fan as well as a historical moment in expos history
I miss Van Horne calling Expos
I was back there burning my ass off, but it was worth it... my Countryman was a Beast 😊✌

Dennis the Menace ! Awesome performance that day !
Love those powder blue uniforms of the Expos. Red, White and Blue looked so good.
A master class in finesse pitching. Love how the Dodgers fans were rooting him on at the end.
As a born and raised Montrealer and a lifelong diehard Expos fan, this was one of the best days of my youth. One of the coolest facts about this game is that Ron Hassey is the only catcher in MLB history to have caught 2 perfect games.

I was there! Orange seats near the left field foul pole. Mike Morgan was perfect for the first five innings as well, and I remember asking if there has ever been a "Double perfect game."
Nothing like a good old baseball game in the background. Great Game!
Remember working on sunday afternoon and then seeing the last inning after coming home. The color guy is Ken Singleton who is now one of the voices of the New York Yankees. Hated the Dodgers back then and this perfect game was sweet.
El Presidente.....Muy Bien. Well done sir....:)
I didn't remember the Dodgers line-up. One of the first games I watch as a kid and I didn't know what was happening.
Al fin subieron el video del juego, llevo años deseoso de ver el partido..Gracias a quien lo subio.
My dad and I actually watched this game when it was live. So awesome.
Denis Martinez un inmortal de nuestra querida Nicaraguita,
Notice one of the ball boys along the foul line didn't give the ball to a fan (ninth inning, two away)....he knows it will be worth something.
Dennis Martinez wasn't only the first latino pitcher to ever pitch a perfect game in the Majors (MLB), but also the first foreign born (born outside the U.S.A. soil) to ever throw this kind of perfect gem of a game (this includes the Japanese, Cubans, Dominicans, Venezuelans, Koreans, Puerto Ricans, Mexicans, etc...)!...
Amazing call
This perfect baseball game was well setting at the los Angeles Dodger Stadium, and the fans were lucky to watch a perfect baseball game threw by Denis Martinez. It is amazing how Denis Martinez at age 35 showed his athletic body at taking care to the bunt and fielded with accuracy throwing at fist base to outing the batter. Denis Martinez since 1972 showed professionalism for the Baseball.
I love that moment around 48:00, when Larry Walker blocked the ball and Martinez made the play at first. Sixteen other times the runner was out at first. Five times the ball was caught in the air and five batters were struck out.
merci beaucoup pour cette publication...terrific!!!

In Dec. 1972, Nicaragua had the World Baseball Championship in Managua Capital, Denis Martinez was the youngest pitcher of Nicaragua Pitchers team but his curves was superexcellent that is why the scout of the Orioles signed him, so young. In that occasion Nicaragua defeated Cuba and USA. Nicaragua team was so excellent that Julio Juarez, Pitcher for Nicaragua defeated Cuba, that was great because politic is always there: Somoza vs Fidel Castro great fans of Baseball. but Managua after this Int'l baseball event was flatted by an 1972 Earthquake. It is so sweet for the Nic. baseball to have the perfect pitcher Denis Martinez.

I was there! Called the Expos and asked if Dennis Martinez would sign my ticket stubs. They said yes so I mailed them in. Never saw them again. Was sitting in bleachers as Dodger fans started to leave early. I decided to be obnoxious and stood up and yelled. It's a perfect game! People sat down, either out of interest or not wanting to have me point them out.
