Zooming in on lava from a distance is spectacular; up close and personal is awe-inspiring as one grapples with the sheer heat/energy output of this single small rivulet of lava! It boggles the mind.

Every now and then gas will escape in such a way but, not shooting lava unless its on a very large scale. This flow wasn't going to do that. Thanks for watching...

This is beautiful footage, the best I've seen in fact. Thanks for sharing it! What is the consistency of thick flows like this? Is it like molten glass such that it can be pulled up and twisted on a stick. say, or is it more like dough that breaks in soft pieces? Either way, one of my goals in life is to collect some just to say for a brief moment I had one of the "youngest" rocks around.

+John Michaelson Thanks...Great question. Like molten glass. Very fragile once it cools if thin. Like when people try and make stuff out of it. Objects made need a polyurethane coating. A guy from NY use to bring cast iron molds out there. Some were faces like this lavapix.com/gallery/volcano-waikupanaha-aug-11-2008/811088736/ They would often break before cooling or getting them home. He only did it when the lava was a short walk. Molds were very heavy.

john boboson I've seen small ferns take hold in less than 2 years. Its quicker when nearby a surviving forest. Trees can take decades or even centuries. Depends on the climate too.
