    You have good conditions there guys. I recently did this in the cold, wet and windy conditions of mid - Wales (UK) with a 25 mph full value R to L wind onto a steel plate at 800 yards. With my 6.5 CM Savage mod 12 LRP in an MDT chassis I got a 3 fast shot group of 68 mm. I was using Nosler 140 grain RDF's at around 2800 fps. I've never used the 6 mm, but the 6.5 is wicked.

    I've been shooting the 6.5CM for quite a while now and have done a lot of good things with it. It is a great cartridge. That being said, i'm getting into PRS competitions and i am building a 6mmCM to go along with my 6.5CM. Both rifles are semi auto. Both will likely have the same JP recoil eliminator on them. One has a JP supermatch barrel, the other a proof SS barrel. I can't wait to compare accuracy and time for shots on target. Really excited to have both to compete with. I don't reload though.... yet.

    This is a cool comparison. But one thing I would point out as far as target acquisition, would be having a muzzle break on the 6mm CM which greatly impacts your ability to stay on target. With my muzzle break on my 6.5, I never lose sight picture which greatly increases back to back shot times. Same with a suppressor.

    Another excellent presentation gentlemen. I’ve been shooting Ruger Percision rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor for a year and consistently shoot with my own reloads 0.50 inch 5 shot groups or less at 100 yards. This is also my 1,000 yard gun. I’m retiring next month and bought myself a new Ruger Precision in 6mm Creedmoor. Will shoot the 6mm tomorrow for the first time. Same scope, trigger, and shooter just different caliber AND only my ammunition. Nothing factory. Will let you know any differences after several trips to our range. @@rascalmatt6713 6mm Creedmoor is also an excellent caliber. Similar consistent 0.5 MOA groups at 100 yards (as the 6.5 Creedmoor in my hands with my reloads). The 6mm CM is also an excellent long range round. I dial several MOA less elevation with the 6 at longer ranges compared to the 6.5. Example: at 800 yards for the 6 I’m dialing say 18 MOA. With the 6.5 dial 21 MOA. Bullets? 6mm is 108 grain ELDM from Hornady. 6.5 is 142 grain HPBT from Sierra. Powders are H4350 and Reloder 16. Similar burn rates for powders. Primers are Federal 210. Hopefully this doesn’t generate criticism. I’m just being honest with my experiences. And this is multiple long range shoots in a variety of weather.

I've been strictly shooting 6.5cm but recently bought a Proof 24" SS barrel in 6cm for PRS. Its' semi auto and all i see PRS guys using is bolt rifles so it should be interesting to see if my semi auto can hang. I shoot a lot of 1,400 yards out here... i'd like to do that with 6cm but if it's a tac driver out to 1,200 i'll probably be satisfied.

    As far as initial recovery comparison, I would say it’s possible that the suppressor (mitigating recoil a bit more than a muzzle break) assisted bs the 6.5 with just the brake. But that’s just one of many variables in play.

    Great demonstration you guys. I reckon I'll be sticking with my 65 Surgeon Scalpel. I have a few mates (I'm from Tasmania in Australia) who shoot 6mm and the problem they're having is with longer range, heavier targets. They are barely making these things move and it is difficult to determine an impact from a miss.

  • @rascalmatt6713

    @rascalmatt6713

    I can see that. But if the targets are around a foot or maybe even 1.5-2ft above the ground... you should be able to see splash from hits on steel in the dirt below the target. Especially a spotter with a spotting scope. I have a NF ATACR 7-35x56 which has phenomenal glass but when shooting at 1,400 yards in the heat with a lot of mirage.. i can't really spot single impacts on steel painted white. Everything is just too blurry. I was only able to hit a soda can at that distance when i had a neck shot next to a head shot and was able to see them finally together and make a holdover adjustment slightly lower to hit the soda can. The splash in the dirt i was able to see each time so i knew i hit steel... just didn't know where.

    The 6.5 CM is kinda a pain in semi auto though. I am dealing with pierced primer with small rifle primers in both starline and fed brass at loads down to 38.0 gr. With large rifle primer Hornady brass i can load up to 42.5 gr with zero pressure signes but the pockets loosen after three firings. I haven't tried magnum small rifle primers because i didn't have any and they are un obtanium right now. This is even using the small diameter firing pin amd shooting on a cool day.

    I'm getting into PRS next year. Right now i'm finishing up building TWO semi auto rifles. One in 6.5CM and one in 6CM. I have a LOT of experience with 6.5 and none with 6. The rifles will both have JP recoil eliminators and their LMOS BCG. One already has a silent capture spring, while the other one probably will end up with one of those as well. The 6.5 has a JP super match 22" barrel with their longest thermal dissipater. I do wonder if that will negatively affect barrel harmonics. Anyone with a thought on that? Both will have JP RC XL hand guards and arca swiss rails. The 6CM will have a 24" Proof SS barrel. So the builds are pretty similar. For triggers i'm undecided. The 6.5 has the GSSA-E curved for now and the 6 will either have the flat GSSA-E or the Hyperfire Elite which i have now and is a single stage, 1.5lb pull believe it or not. I have a Noveske SPR with the Hyperfire single stage Eclipse which has the adjustable boot and a 2.5lb pull and i really like that. So right now i'm undecided on which trigger will win the day. My other little secret is the Hiper Fire grip. I have that on my Noveske SPR and it's just awesome IMHO. Puts your finger right where it needs to be on the Eclipse trigger. Ultimately, with these two rifles being so similar, i cannot wait to compare them side by side for time and accuracy.

    Making it difficult for me to choose between the 6.5 and 6 for my next long range shooter from my .308. Then hornady throws into the mix 6mm ARC. I'm not shooting for times so I'm still leaning to the 6.5 for a heavier bullet when reaching my goal of 1600m. My best is 1020m with my .308.

    Well, that’s the problem. I rarely shoot light bullets in the 6.5. This is why I choose the 147 and 153gr in the 6.5 most of the time. I don’t have to worry about going subsonic before 1400 yards or so. I’m still learning the 6mm and will try different things for sure.

    Another fantastic video. My question to you is ... the 6 mm Creedmoor Barrel life compared to the 6.5 mm Creedmoor Barrel ... is it the same or are you going to get more rounds out of the 6.5 then you would the 6 ... I think that needs to be taken into fact or factors when figuring out which round is going to be superior at least that's what I'm thinking ... what are your thoughts on this?🤔

    The 6mm is known to eat barrels, especially with hot handloads. 1200 rounds or so. The 6.5 will get you to around 2500 rounds. Definitely something to consider.

    I shoot a 22-250AI and a 22br both with 75 grain Amax. Shooting crows out to 850 meters is no problem with Streloc. 28 grains of benchmark in the little br gives me 2850 fps. I'm done with all the other calibers for long range fun but it's brutal to feed. Both my buddies are now building 22brs. Great fun cheap and stupidly accurate..

    X-RING I’ll have to look back into it. You said it allows BC Truing, Do you mean that it allows for different BCs to be entered for different velocities? Again, it’s a little fuzzy, but I can check my notes, but if it wasn’t segmented (velocity) BC’s, then it might have been an error in the Magnus effect.
