WPA-Enterprise is usually used with certificates (no password needed) and pushed out via group policy. this way you can enable all your enterprise devices to connect that are managed by the IT department automatically. Also you can have separate networks for device certs vs user certs. Device networks connect pre-login and would allow connection to domain controllers and update services where as user networks (after login) will connect to the full network as determined by the user policy. So enterprise gives much more flexibility - from my experience I’ve usually only seen user certificates deployed (so after login connection)

Amazing. Thanks so much for taking the time to explain this. I don't think I will use WPA-Enterprise any time soon then 😂

Like others have said, WPA3 Enterprise authenticates devices by username / password via RADIUS server (you can use the built-in RADIUS server on the UDM Pro.

Well that was a good teaching vid, didn't even realise WPA3 was a thing (I'm so out of date around that, lol). As for repercussions from setting it to United States, you have to ensure you use Z in words more and drop the letter U in your applications/sentences/passwords 😜😏

Mmm … my wifi 5ghz gets speeds of 940Mbs in DL, so why should be the reason to upgrade?

  • @LarsKlintTech

In your case, you might not, but you are likely getting it with no other devices using the frequency. The 4 main reasons for upgrading are: 1. Increased Spectrum: Wi-Fi 6E operates in the 6 GHz frequency band, which provides significantly more available spectrum compared to Wi-Fi 6. This additional spectrum allows for less interference from other devices, resulting in improved performance and faster speeds. 2. Avoidance of Congestion: With the expanded spectrum, Wi-Fi 6E networks can alleviate congestion in crowded areas where many Wi-Fi devices coexist. This is particularly beneficial in urban environments, apartments, or office spaces with numerous connected devices, as it allows for smoother and more reliable connections. 3. Higher Bandwidth: Wi-Fi 6E offers wider channel bandwidth, up to 160 MHz, compared to Wi-Fi 6's maximum of 80 MHz. This increased bandwidth can support higher data rates, making it ideal for bandwidth-intensive applications such as streaming high-definition video, online gaming, and large file transfers. 4. Lower Latency: Wi-Fi 6E networks _can_ deliver lower latency, reducing delays in data transmission and enhancing responsiveness for real-time applications. This is particularly advantageous for activities like online gaming, video conferencing, and IoT applications that require immediate feedback or rapid data exchange.

@@LarsKlintTech I also have 160Mhz but most of the devices don’t support it. Congestion is not a problem here, I don’t live in the city.

With WPA Enterprise wifi users will have to login with a (personal) username/password instead of just a (shared) password. In my case I run a Windows domain at home and I have to login using a domain user and password (using RADIUS) when I try to connect to my wifi. For home it is a bit overkill (I just to like to play with this kind of stuff), but in an office it makes a lot more sense, because you don't need a shared password that is the same for everyone, which basically is a huge security risk, because anyone who knows the password can connect. Instead, the wifi access is linked to your account and when that account is disabled, you automatically lose access to the wifi.

Ah, got it. I don't have a RADIUS server, so it probably wouldn't work in my setup. Makes total sense for an office setup though. Thanks for sharing mate 😊

What happens when you go out of 6Ghz range and it jumps to 2.4 or 5Ghz and then you come back in range does it automatically connect back to 6Ghz?

I have to be on the new SSID (Llamas in the fast LAN) and then the phone will automatically go on 6Ghz if I am connected to the U6E AP. When I am not connected to it, it will just use 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz as normal, but is still connecting using WPA3.

@@LarsKlintTechha yeah, I go around often scanning funny network names using WiFiman when I'm on a train or something and I never saw a 6ghz network in the wild other than my own experiments until a few days ago. Anyways I am incredibly happy with my wifi 6 unifi APs even though they don't have 6ghz I can mess with :P.
