    We all miss seeing Dave on our weekly Brother's Trucks videos. It's been a year since I last saw this video. I have it saved in my playlist library. Im getting a step closer to doing this to my 68 along with a front suspension and disc brake upgrade. I have a funny story to share. I have a 2010 GMC Sierra 1500 that needs some body work done. I had misplaced my butt-welding clamps. As I was watching your video at the 1:04 mark, i had suddenly remembered where I had placed my clamps and walked right to them! They're now sitting on my end table. Thanks, Dave, for reminding mevwhere i had misplaced them at, and for the great video!

    Watched a ton of videos on cutting down bedsides but I know when Dave is in front of the camera it will be laid out perfectly. Thanks for helping me perfect my craft. I’m working backwards..I’ve got a shortbed to use on my 68 but I’m taking long bedsides and cutting them down for a true unibody truck. It may be the only c10 with a subframe.

    IMPORTANT! When grinding, cutting, or welding make sure there is no glass in the area, the flying sparks ⚡️ will pit the glass. You won’t know it until you clean the glass for the first time after it’s pitted and the towel is snagged by the debris in the glass (don’t ask how I know this).

    We did NOT cover the center hole on these bed sides because they were basically junk and we just cut them to show you all how to do it at home. We do however carry a pre-shaped plug for the center hole which fits nice and flush and can be easily welded in.

    Question; why not just take the 12 inches out and make a straight cut instead of stepping it over? I'm assuming you're doing this because you had a hole in the bed where somebody was going to put in a jewelry gas tank or something. So you want to get rid of that hole. Is there a reason for strength or something to make that jog? I know you want to save the stakehold but if you just did a 12-in wide cut with straight edges right out of the center between the front of the bed and the fender well here why not do that? Once again is it just because you already had a hole in the bed and wanted to take that hole out? Or is there another reason. Now I'm taking notes by asking you this question cuz I'll probably have another question and I'll make another comment. Thank you for showing us how to do this.

  • @BROTHERSTruckPartsTV

    @BROTHERSTruckPartsTV

    2 жыл бұрын

    The step is to retain or "keep" the stake pocket. If you just cut it straight you would end up eliminating the pocket completely. Again, there are many ways to skin a cat as they say, and you COULD remove the pocket by drilling or cutting out the spot welds and the straight cut the bedside and move the pocket separately and create a new hole on top, but we find this is easier and faster.

    @@BROTHERSTruckPartsTV thank you for a heads up. I'm back and forth on whether I want to try this I'm not. I did watch another Brothers tech about sectioning the frame and the guide which I assume your company sells. The last time I was about to try this, I drove about 6 hours each way to go pick up a short bed frame. I've got a half a dozen of these trucks. So I do have a real interest in actually doing it or just ordering the bed parts from you thank you again for your reply
