Its the repro panels that are not exactly made like the originals and thats cause they are not made with the original press molds.

Sam, when I saw you got another 1/4 I was really hoping you would have had a different outcome. I read the comments and there are many great suggestions. They may just have a bad stamping on the right sides. I cant really add anything that hasn't been said. I would do as Jeff said first, talk to the rep, if they will not work with you, like Hanson and others said, I would take the new old one and use it to repair the original. Then I would try to return/sell the new new one. I'm pulling for ya on this one. Just remember, its just metal, nothing a welder and grinder cant take care of. I too wish I was closer.

When I was in the same situation some 2 years ago with my Spitfire, I had a very experienced and professional guy that build cars come over and give me some ideas on how to tackle the issues i had with my car. I simply payed him an hour for giving me some very good inputs. One thing is seeing it on a screen another thing is hands on.

If it was me, I would make a templete of the quarter panel at the tail lamp end and compare it to the origional to see where the distortion in the panel is. You can make a templete by tapeing carboard together to follow the quarter profile. Cheers OLDDUDE

At this point Sam, I have to agree with Hanson and James Freddie.I think maybe you have a couple issues, somehow the original body is treeked and second the newquarter is a bad stamp.I think it twists too far to the left at the back top body line. I agree with James Freddie, give the supplier a call see if they will work with you. You might as well use the First New quarter and try and slice a relief in the back ontop, you may have to tech srew the panel on in the front get it as close to factory specs as possible then look at the twist in the back of the quarter to see where you can cut a relief cut to see if you can fix the bad stamp. Wow So sorry you are going through all this. I still think your wife was right at the window area. The belt molding didn't fit before I bet it does now. Good Luck guy.

***** I like your suggestion on using the first new one and making a relief cut at the back I will try that and see where it gets me, Thanks Cary

Try talking to your parts rep. let them see the issue and don't do anything to the quarter where you won't be able to return it. I think it might surprise you how they'll work with you on your problem. My buddy Chris event got a prototype fender for his Camaro once when he had issues. I just put OPG quarters on a 64 Malibu SS the left one fit like a glove and the right one took some work but nothing like your going through. Get the frame measurements for your car and make sure it's supported correctly and cover all your based on that side. I think you should consider moving on with the left quarter and taillight panel and get them squared away while you work to resolve the right issues. This video will be an excellent demonstration of your problem when you talk to parts people.

jamesfreddys Thanks, I don't think they will take it back cause I think there is a 30 day return policy but I will check on that. I see your point on moving over to the left side at least it make me feel like I'm getting something accomplished. The car is sitting on the frame but that's not the one I'm going to use, have another one and I will check the measurements this weekend. Thanks again James Freddy for all your input.

I think I would clean up the old panel, install it with screws , line up the trunk, use the new panels to patch up the old panel, and get on with it. If it don't go dont force it.

I agree with 265chevy and jamesfreddys. Either use what you need from the new panel, and patch the old quaterpanel, and bodywork it out, or force one of the new ones into submission (which is what I would probably do) or call the place you bought them from and see if they wont work with you on getting a better panel made. those aftermarket ones see obviously tweaked to me. Look forward to your update. Bruce 51NAPCO

Looks like the old one kicks out in the back on the outside. The new one looks rounded inward. I don't know. Has to be a way to comparative measure the two. Have you measured from the trunk lip too the outside of the quarter? Sorry Sam that's all I got.

Can you tell if there were ever any alterations done from the inside to the quarter panel you originally removed? How do the width measurement distance on top rear from trunk edge to top outside body line of new panel compare to old panel? It does appear twisted. You may have already checked this Sam, I'm just stabbing at it.

ceedell Thanks, yes I have checked those measurements and the measure the same give or take 1/16". It's really weird. The original panel show no signs of any alterations.

How bad is the original panel?.I know you cut the top but if that is it.Me i would use the new panel for the piece i need and weld it to the old panel and do all the body work on the old panel and move on.You know some thing for sure.(1) the old panel fits so your problem is with the stamping with the new ones.So if you really dead set on using the new ones you are going to make relief cuts to move it to the 56 3/8 mark.I just think that the stamping on the passenger side is messed up because you bought 2 of them and it is the same exact problem.Or you can buy a 3rd one from a completely different company but like i said before i would make the one i know fit right with the welding and body work.Just my thoughts later and good luck

265chevy The original panel is in good shape from mid point up except what I cut out, I will look into what you suggested but it will probably be my last option cause I really don't want to do all that welding but then again I may have to. Thanks Hanson.

Are these Chinese made? I think you have a bad stamp. It looks twisted. Anytime you can fix the original metal, that's always the best way. Most times aftermarket parts just won't fit right. But, Sometimes it depends on where you get them too.

Classic Car Overhaul Me, I would rather fix rust holes than replace full panels. Take your trunk floor for example. I would fix those holes and leave the rest. When you replace that much metal, you're asking for big headaches. If it ain't broke don't fix it. Just my humble opinion.

GALAXIE 500XL Believe me I wish I had not cut out the whole original quarters now, I had no idea that I was going to run into this. I figured it would be easier to replace full panels instead of cutting out sections, remove rust, weld, ect. I cut out a lot of good metal on this car that could have stayed but I'm here now so all I can do is move forward and mark this one up as lesson learned.
