His patience with the QRM from the audience was admirable. Too bad he had to cut out parts of his presentation because someone thought he had never heard of chicken wire as a groundplane.

VLF should be open to Amateur Radio operators as it has become unused by many services lately. Open for experimentation and CW or voice comms by Hams as it becomes abandoned and unused. W4JFJF.

Sort of thinking of getting back into Ham Radio! Live up here in South Dakota now but started down there in Carrollton around 1988. Back then I got the extra points at field day receiving the teletype message from ARRL on a real mechanical teletype and a Drake radio. Was KB5ZAU,, Was watching your testing video as I have to retest now.. I generally ONLY used CW..

From what I read, the frequency range is 472 to 479 kHz. Seems the size of antenna needed would be very prohibitive to all but a very few people, due to the real estate needed for just a simple dipole.

Yes I looked that up after I recorded this intro to confirm it is around the 400KHz range. You would have to have lots of real estate for a decent antenna, yes. But it would be very interesting to try.

I don't like modes on hf below 10 meters to be running without operators. It used to be illegal to do this but there must be a carve out for the FT modes. If this being the case, I think it is wrong and I bet ARRL had something to do with it. That is why I dumped ARRL in 1995.
