6201 'Princess Elizabeth' Battles Over Shap & The S&C !
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
The big red machine known as 'Lizzie' is seen digging in over Shap and the S&C on the Cumbrian Mountain Express. The iconic LMS locomotive is seen first on the arduous 1/75 climb of Shap Bank in some great light which is showcased further down the hill ! A great sound over the notorious section of the West Coast Mainline !
The return leg as usual heads over the Settle & Carlisle Railway and we decided to play it safe and head to Birkitt Common knowing if the sun came out we would be in for a visual treat ! The Princess is seen from three angles as she powers her way to Ais Gill Summit with the dreaded draincock blowing ! We finish off the day with 6201 on Wilpshire Bank, as she's firstly seen slipping on approach to Ramsgreave & Wilpshire Station, she is then seen topping the summit which brings to an end one of our best day's in the Northern Hills !
I hope you enjoy the sights & sounds !

Another excellent example of how to photograph steam trains. A Masterclass! I was on the train so this is a bonus to a great day out!

ahem steam LOCOMOTIVE not train a train is a line of vagons or cars attached together
love the colour.
Superb....brilliant cinematography & well done "Lizzie"....congrats to the the amazing footplate crew that enabled this.....
Beautiful
I have just spotted this video and it is excellent. Wonderful scenery and excellent photography. I love it when they don't put a diesel on! I didn't even know that Lizzie was back from her rebuild etc. I love this loco as I had a Hornby 00 model of it as a boy. The model sat in a box for decades (nearly 40 years). Last week I unpacked it and took it to the local model railway club and they got it running again within 10 minutes. Good to see the real thing is back as well.
Great days filming Liam & Phil , superb sounds from 6201 especially over Shap.
Most beautiful non-streamlined locomotive (in my opinion!) - the single chimney helps greatly with that, and makes her performance all the more remarkable.

Agreed. The LMS Coronation Class was the last of it's kind
Great video ! Thank you very much-I love it
A fantastic sight and sound. And such majestic scenery. Thank you for sharing this terrific video.
My lad was on there and he had a great time, after watching your film there is no need to watch anyone elses. Your shots and choice of filming locations beat others hands down. Many Thanks and well done.
A lizzie at full blast pure magic
Fabulous thank you helped by super light and autumn colours.
I loved the sheep doing a runner @ 5:43 . They should have stayed and admired the the experience.
Well done her & well done you, very nice video
Atmospheric. Brilliant once again.
Thoroughly enjoyed from start to finish, thanks Liam and Phil. Great choice of locations and superb captures as always. The light at the beginning worked perfectly with the darker foreground. Easy to see why you regard it as a quality day. The single draincock blowing was recently described to me as 'LMS disease' but I think that is more than a little unfair. Kind regards, Bob.

RJAS 365, yes I spotted that, thought didn’t realise it might be a sticking point on LMS locos. My last time up Shap really was a struggle, much more laboured than this.
First Class - a pleasure to watch.
Hi Liam and Phil 🙋🏻♀️. Wonderful , simply wonderful ... Thank you ☺️ 🚂💕
This is beautiful! My compliments.
You have a great eye for a shot. This is yer actual art.
Outstanding work and the opening shot is bloody awesome. Cheers Richard

Excellent 😀
Brilliant video Liam and Phil. Fantastic performance by Lizzie. Superb days filming. Very fortunate with the sunshine which helps. Best wishes C&A
Stunning work as always from the both of you Liam...she's a wonderful loco....Bob
Sounds like the that scene from zulu when they hear the Zulus coming to Rorke's Drift.
Great video !
Hi,looks good reminds me of my time on the footplate as a fireman in the 60s I did 50yrs on the footplate finished my time out at longsight as a driver Regards Phil.
Für mich sind Dampflokomotoven unbeschreiblich schön. Sie verkörpern Kraft mit Macht und Schnelligkeit. Es ist so schade, daß sie verschwinden. Sie waren kunstwerke der Technik.
Nice video
Got some cracking shots there! I remember seeing you up on Shap and Birkett Common, we got lucky at Birkett with the sun coming out in time for it to pass
Brilliant from the fireman, looks like not one shovel full of coal has gone to waste
Magnificent.
Very good. Specially enjoyed the "landscapes" at the start! BTW I have subscribed to you, so keep them coming . . . .
That's my audio experience of the week, I think. Great LF component after passing on the first shot. I'd love to see "City of Wells" doing turn about with 6201, so we could compare dB - who's loudest?
British Steam: the definition of Class X)
Look how hard Lizzie is trying to get up shap summit
Dirty,noisy,smelly thing-Magnificent!!!
I have this morning showed this superb video to ROGER BELL. And if you do not recognise the name......SHAME ON YOU ! Pete Berry, Gloucester
Beautiful locomotive, well shot! I have two questions. Why is she venting steam from the left cylinder on every stroke as if the cylinder cock is open? Why is the blow down valve on the right side dumping water during the whole video? Not criticizing, just want to understand.
when i was a lad they used to be banked by a tank engine based at oxenholme
Looks fantastic. What's the problem with the draincock - not read anything anywhere so must have missed it?

@@MarshSteamVideosTM OK. Thanks. I cannot understand why the draincocks face forwards - surely it would be easier to drain if they faced backwards? ...

It happens a lot on LMS locos. probably one of the weak Derby design features they adopted

I was on the train and noted the steady beat of the draincock issue as soon as any gradient was experienced after the Carlisle lunch break. It did seem to take the edge off climbing performance, presumably like running with three and a half cylinders?? Anyway, a great day and very good video shots at superb locations, well done Sir! (BTW, it was the first mainline steam trip I have ever done that ran and returned on time, well, ish!)
Very nice filmwork, but too many mainline steam locos in Britain seem to exhibit cylinder draincock problems as seen. In this piece Princess Elizabeth also seems to be exhibiting the firemans side injector not picking up properly (water running from the filler pipe under the cab) or the Firemans having a bit of a doze as he seems more interested in waving than watching the pick-up !

I must have been lucky then as have not experienced draincock issues before on any of my trips, nor noticed it in any other video here. (Not having a go, just genuine comment)
