    Master Lock makes some beefy locks; it's the marshmallow cores and their security claims that are the problem. Not a lot of locks can defeat the nut splitter or RamSet.

    I am actually impressed by the street cuff. Imagine it locked on a motorcycle. After hardly breaking the chain you still have to deal with the remaining shackle on the motorcycle's wheel or frame.

    yeah, i say so. you can't beat it bolt or cable cutters and it's resistant to nut splitters. you can't just rake it open, either. that's good enough. an angle grinder or ramset can beat any lock in under a minute, so it's not really fair to use those as standards.

    That was a actually fairly impressive, especially for a master lock product. Imo this is a much better design for links vs bars like in the rock bros & abus. The links being so close together helped take some of the force from the link being split.

    @@JS-rv3et And that is exactly what Master lock wants. They say that they will pay up to 3500 for stolen bike/motorcycle IF somebody brute force the lock. If it is way faster, easier and quieter to pick the lock, it is not opened by brute force and they do not have to pay.

    Well, that's one design flaw I'm not too concerned about. Took multiple tools and like two minutes to break it with a great deal of exertion. Now if only it didn't have the two other design flaws.

    Mr. Lawyer I applaud and understand what you’re doing by exposing the weaknesses of these locks in hopes of educating consumers and motivating the manufacturers to produce better locks. But I’m wondering how many of your viewers and subs are thieves (amateur or pro) and have actually successfully stolen property due to these videos.

    Took from 2:00 to 5:15 to break with the tool; far longer than a grinder attack. Also, in use the two locking units are still attached somewhere, and riding away might still be impeded.

    Good observation, and this is highly staged attack(using vice, perfect lighting no distractions)...and he was using 2 wrenches and nut splitter so basically 3 tools not including vice...highly unlikely that average thief would using all that

    @@RWBHere You mean ramset gun? According to abus security experts most thieves(more than 90%) use basic tools, some sort of bolt cutters etc...so that would be very unlikely

    @John Nitrous That is very non realistic simulation(vice-pole)..I lock my bicycle almost daily around poles/racks and lock is very loose because there is always some clearance between lock/pole bicycle and there is no way that you can make it that steady and not moving like in vice.

    Had a similar one to that years ago when first brought wheel clamps(Denver boot) into London UK .After getting caught by one. Put "spider" wheel brace on end and cut lock off.

    just cover the chain in a bunch of duck tape. Duct tape is a pain in the butt to remove from stuff. Especially if it's been there for a while. hope this helps.

    Dremel cordless 12 volt lithium battery rotary tool with a diamond or tungsten carbide cutter is my goto tool for cutting off bolts, etc, that are rusted in place. Great for taking off rivets with little to no damage to the surface.

    Splitting the chain still leaves you with the cuff on the bike somewhere, I'd hope one on a wheel I suspect for a motorbike, and hopefully frame and wheel on a bicycle. How does the rivet on the cuffs fare against the splitter?

    I highly doubt it would fit around a wheel... it’s designed to be used on a bike frame.

    I thought the same - there's one exposed pivot/hinge on each cuff. Downside, even with that popped clean out, the cuff might not open from locked.

It almost passed a year from publishing this video, but I thought it's important to mention, after fastening the screw around 3:30 of the video you turned the chain and it was so dangerous because the rivet was under alot of tension and a little strike on chain could due to a an unfortunate injury. Take more care plz.

    You should be in the lock making business :) You have so much knowledge on how to open and break locks that you can probably make very good and high quality locks that are close to impossible to open without the key.

    Just out of curiosity, have you put any thought into using a chain break on these style of locks? I use them quite often in the factory where I work and I think it would do well on these.

    zachariah liles I would like to see the same. The only thing with regular #40 chain or any chain is the heads are not riveted over just press fit in to the chain links

    LockPickingLawyer I don't know about that. The pins in the chains I work with are reported to be 55+ brinell and the chain breaks work just fine with them. All they do is push the pin through the links. And if it doesn't work with this exact lock, maybe it will work on other brands. Just a thought.

    LockPickingLawyer. Newer locks are made poorly. The revits are the same, but they are poorly pressed. They are visible half stamped up to 4mm undressed revised end exposed.

    I never thought of using a wrench on a nut splitter frame. Cool. Steel alloys can be surprising. I once dented the jaws on a big bolt cutter. I thought the jaws would be able to cut through a stainless steel cb whip antenna. The antenna was tougher than expected and the jaws were weaker than expected.

    No ricochet into the light fixture on this one, glad you're safe and nothing was damaged, aside from the chain. Break a light next time though. I seem to get a chuckle out of that sort of thing, like engine backfire, or someone running over something they shouldn't have with a mower.

    @@TheGoldenTNT plenty of locks can be locked without a key. On doors you can spin the tab on opposite knob. And on padlocks and handcuffs you press them together until lock engages. You don't need a key to lock majority of pad locks or even locks for that matter. Maybe deadbolt to lock from outside but this "masterkey" wouldn't work on deadbolt so irrelevant

    Without reading all 616 comments, here are a couple of thoughts: Most brands of nut splitters have replacement wedges available. It might work better to grip the bow of the nut splitter in the vise and let the victim lock hang free.

    Ok that was something else! Looks like something you would come across out on the streets a wee ned hiding down doing something like this! But honestly shocked, i known it's 6yr old tech but still was claimed to be one of the most secure without a silver or gold status they should have an attachment for the chain to add after it's locked up like a real police cuff!

    i think he tries to demonstrate a real world use of it. like if the lock was on the bike and a post you would have to hold the splitter and the tools. the 3 tools he used would be easy to have in a pocket or jacket and shows how you can still get needed torque without the splitter being anchored
