Although my dad wasnt a professional barber/hairstylist He used to cut hair. My brother got rig worms because he didn't sanitize any of the tools properly. My mom was really mad because of this because she told him to do so. Thanks for this video it was really informative:)

Thank you for sharing. I will be cleaning all my hair tools today. Please do a video showing step by step how to trim flat ironed hair and explain as you go along. There are a ton of hair trimming videos on KZread but I haven't run across one that gives good details.

    1. YAAAAAASS Ship-Shape!! I use it daily and keep Barbercide handy near my station. (I'm a current cosmetology student in Texas) 2. How do you clean/disinfect your hot tools? Anything I've tried I guess leaves a residue and lets off a smell when I heat it up.

I saw a video where they cleaned the flat iron plates with rubbing alcohol on a rag so that's what I use. I guess you can also use it on curling irons.

Thank you for this! My husband is currently having issues with razor bumps in the back of his head from his hair cuts. I feel like the barbershop he goes to is not cleaning the tools enough. He's very loyal to his barber but I'm looking for another shop for him.

Razor bumps usually occur from curly and coarse hair curling into the hair pocket as opposed to penetrating out the pore as the hair grows back in after shaving. Exfoliating and proper moisturizing for the skin can help minimize razor bumps on the face and other problem areas. As long as he has never gotten an infection or barber's rash from dirty implements, I would assume that his current barber is fine. There are better quality trimmers that help minimize razor bumps too but it could just be a sensitive area for him.

AfrikanHairGod Thank you so much for this! We were trying to figure out why these bumps were flaring up at times. He started using a shampoo with tea tree oil and they have gone down significantly, but at times they come back. Thank you for this information!

+LizMarie - You might want to consider looking into purchasing a Bevel trimmer and razor products for your husband to use at home and the barber shop. Bevel is a black owned business by Tristian Walker. This company came about because Tristian was suffering from getting irritation and bumps after shaving and trimming his hair at the barber shop. His tools are designed to combat this issue of bumps for black people (and people of color). Bevel website: getbevel.com/ .

Hey! I scrolled through your vids, but forgive me if you've covered these topics- I would be interested in hearing from you about getting our edges back and causes of breakage, dandruff treatments, and keratin treatments. I know people seem to hate the keratin treatments but Peter Coppola's treatment seemed to give me my life back from managing natural hair, clear dandruff, and stopped my breakage. I can't find it where I live now though. Just interested in your wisdom! Thanks

Great video, Narada. Do you and Henny do this multiple times daily between every customer? So say you've had 20 customers one day at work.... do you use this solution 20+ times a day? And do the hair tools handle that well?

Some probably do. I used to. I don't think many stylist actually use Ship Shape to be honest. Then again, not many stylists really sanitize and disinfect their tools properly either.
