Tripura Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath flagged off a consignment of 600 kg of queen pineapple for Oman on June 13 evening at the Agartala Railway Station. The consignment will first reach Guwahati and subsequently be flown to Oman.
Speaking after the flagging-off ceremony on Thursday Nath said, that apart from the 600 kgs the state has orders for sending 5 MT of Queen Variety pineapple to Dubai and the government is in talks with buyers to send a bigger shipment of 30 MT Kew variety pineapples to Holland and other European countries.
Thanks to the scaling up of marketing facilities, pineapple production in Tripura has increased from 1.27 lakh MT in 2017-18 to 1.72 lakh MT in 2022-23. Over the past five years, Tripura has exported various horticultural products, including pineapples, jackfruits, wood apples, Emile and ginger to different countries.
