    I think it's more like they put people in jail and then use as few resources as possible to actually do anything for them. Then they make it hard for people to stay out of jail because they want these people to stay in jail forever. It's simpler for them. Privatising jails is the extra mile in that direction. And when I say "they" and "them" I just mean the system that has gradually been built to deal with these situations over the centuries. Irony of course being that it would be cheaper, less life ruining & safer for people outside if they actually did proper rehabilitation and made sure people actually got back into jobs quickly after jail. Guns in the US is also a whole subject I could get into.

Then he did every damn thing he could to avoid being sent back to general population, was told he was getting sent back anyway, and conveniently developed a "medical condition" that doctors couldn't find...which he happily just accepted. If you were in as much pain as he claimed and the doctors just sent you away would you be laughing and smiling into the damn cameras after, not a care in the world?

    From an article: "Because producers realized that it would be difficult for volunteers to remain undercover after the first season aired, a second season was produced before the series premiered. Representatives from A&E told Business Insider that multiple corrections officers were fired due to the program. According to the producers, valid legal releases to appear on television were obtained from inmates, but they were not told the actual reason that the releases were needed." Also just a random fact, Muhammed Ali's daughter was of the inmates in the show.

    Just to add, in this case plants are the “normal” people going to jail who the show is based around. I want to think they’re real people and they are, but the director has to influence what they do to an extent. It is TV after all. These shows may actually get the closest to reality TV since they’re def. not able to control the prisoners around the plants. ✌🏻

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@canarchist4900 Thanks man. I've thought about it but decided that idk how I feel about having my life story online. It's one thing to talk with people on here but I have no adult record so a lot of people I know now irl would be surprised to learn that I've spent close to a year of my life locked up between juvenile and jail plus an additional 3 months in an inpatient rehab. All I can say is stay off drugs, don't drink til you're an adult and even then, don't drink daily or get black out drunk! Also, don't have kids til you're an adult either. All my arrests as a teen were either because I was high or drunk or I was doing something illegal to get money. Never thought that drinking and getting high at 14-15 would turn into almost everyone I know including me using hard drugs by 18 at the latest. Now I'm almost 30 I've got 8 years sober from heroin. I've lost count of all the people I went to high school with that now are either dead, on heroin, fentanyl, meth, crack, etc or are in prison. If I had to guess, less than 15% of the people I used to party with in high school are now doing good. Even the people who are doing okay, most had kids young and now struggle just to put food on the table. Graduate, go to college or do something to get a good job. It's a hell of a lot easier to do it at the normal age than it is to start it in your 20s! Just because I don't regret my experiences doesn't mean I wouldn't do it differently if I woke up and was 14 again. Just one bad choice and you could have an adult record and be banned from owning a firearm or voting for life. I got lucky and I still have those rights but I was one bad choice away from losing them forever. Not to mention that once you have a felony as an adult, the jobs that you'll be able to get are limited to basically fast food or hard manual labor. Very few people escape the cycle and most die or spent years in prison and by then it's too late! I'm sure you've heard it all before but the choices you make now really will effect the rest of your life! Learn from the people who messed up like Larry cuz I guarantee that you don't wanna experience it for yourself! The violence you hear about in jail is nothing compared to the pain of knowing that you let down the people that you care about again. I'd rather get beat up by 10 people than spent one week locked in a cell knowing I messed up again and am just another number until I do my time.

    I know two brothers who were in that prison. They were on the Lam in Thailand, when they were caught they were begging the government to extradite them. They were there for two months, when they got home to Britain they both got 12 to 16 years inside. Billy Was in there a couple of years I believe, Billy is the lad who wrote the book, he's a local lad also. He has a really good podcast at the moment. Great movie BTW.

    A thing I'd love to see you look at. The Stanford Prison Experiment. An innocent science experiment about conformity, that ended up having to be cancelled after a week because of how bad it got. I'd love to see how it compares to actual prison. From what Larry's said, and what happened in it, I think its pretty on par

  • @andrewharper1609

    @andrewharper1609

    There's a book about the Stanford prison experiment called 'The Lucifer Effect' by Dr Zimbardo who ran the experiment. It lasted something like four days before it broke down in anarchy and outside critiques have emerged over time. There's some basic correlation but apparently the experiment runners told the participants acting as 'guards' to lead into it. It looks like they had assumed their conclusion and ham acted their way into it.

    When I was in Manhattan MCC, other inmates were inquisitive, and some even asked me about 60 days in (which I haven't heard of back then). When I was transferred to Brooklyn MDC like a year later, the units were less cramped and noone cared much for who the new guys in the unit are. Also, once you're used to being there and switch units, people can tell you've been there for a while because you're more casual and its evident by your demeanor that this is just routine - another move thru the facility. New in the unit, but not new in the facility.
