During our stream in Las Vegas we offered $100 to anyone who could beat us in a chess game. Nobody was even close to winning until this young girl Sammy came.     Gotta admire her innocence and high morale. :) Even though Alex gave her the prize, she gave it back because she wanted someone to actually win it. The kid is going far in life.

    Yes! Wholesome is how you win. Sarcasm is just dissatisfaction parading as wit. It's false pride. Healthy pride has compassion and dignity and uplifts everyone around. Regardless of what happens on the chessboard, when you constantly train yourself to relate so harshly you will never feel satisfied. All that constant bickering and trash-talk can only arise from poor social skills or emotional pain. Leaving behind all of this negativity nonsense could surely promote these two pawns into the queens they were born to be.

We live in a society now where every kid gets 'participation' trophy's/awards ..which is only hurting the kids and is detrimental to whatever they're passionate about IMO.

    @@kevinc1593 I think she may have voiced her notions of not feeling right about taking the money to her father and he just gave her the little push she wanted to go back and return it. She looks back at him for support, not direction or approval. Kids will do that. I’m glad he encouraged her to do what she felt was right. Watching it a second time it makes total sense why she was looking at the bill like it was her first time seeing money lol. She knew she didn’t want it from the start because she didn’t win. I faithfully believe if Sammy had won she would have happily taken that crispy $100.

    I love that she found Bxh6 and the underlying pin on the g file. it's hard for beginners to remember that pins are transient and any move requires reevaluating the safety of pieces protected only by a pin. but to even find it once is very good

    Yeah, but the pin goes nowhere. It just gets you a pawn. If Alex used her rook the queen was perfectly fine to go across the board and begin attacking with the bishop, pawn and other rook against a queen and some weak pawns.

    @@toriless Even if it doesn't work in that case it's a good thing she thought about that move and even had the idea to try to mate Black's King. She was not fast enough to calculate that g6 would eventually save the King, allowing the Bishop to guard the h8 square for the rest of the game but nice try anyway.
